Abstract

The thatched-roof covering element consists of a multiplicity of synthetic stalks of spiral cross-section arranged approximately in parallel next to and above one another, the stalks being flattened in their upper end region and being connected to one another by thermal welding. Each pair of stalks (21, 22) of the element (1) is formed by bending an individual stalk (2) of appropriate length to form two approximately parallel stalk legs (21 and 22). A multiplicity of pairs of stalks (21, 22) are connected by thermal welding in the region of their bend (23), the stalk parts (24) adjacent to this being flattened. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a thatched roof covering element, which consists of a plurality of plastic stalks arranged approximately parallel and one above the other with a spiral cross section, the stalks being flattened in their upper end region and connected to one another by thermal welding.

A thatched roof covering element of the type mentioned above has very good properties in terms of appearance and durability, but it has been shown that it requires a relatively high outlay in terms of production. This high effort is mainly due to the fact that stalks have to be cut to several different lengths, with one end being shaped irregularly to achieve the most natural possible appearance, while a smooth cut is advantageous for the other end at which the welding takes place . Such an element is described in the earlier European Patent Application No. 86 106 052.3.

It is therefore the task of improving the thatched roof covering element of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that it can be produced with significantly less effort without sacrificing its advantageous properties already present and has improved durability.

This object is achieved according to the invention in a thatched roofing element of the type mentioned above in that a pair of stalks of the element is formed by kinking a correspondingly long individual stalk to form two approximately parallel stalk legs and that the connection of a plurality of stalk pairs by the thermal welding in Area of her kink is done by flattening the neighboring straw parts.

In the case of a thatched roof covering element designed in this way, half of all cutting operations are saved in its manufacture. In addition, all the remaining cuts can now be made so that an irregularly shaped end of the blade is created. Different stalk lengths when cutting are also no longer necessary, because within the thatched roof covering element, different stalk lengths can be realized simply by bending the previously cut individual stalks at different points. This makes it possible to produce both pairs of stalks with two stalk legs of equal length, of medium length, and those with legs of different lengths, each having a shorter or longer length. For the use of the stalks in thatched roof covering elements, an aspect ratio of the stalk legs of approximately I: I to approximately 2: I is favorable.

Another advantage of the thatched roof covering element is its higher strength in the area of welding, since two stalks of the element are formed from a single straw.

The advantageously smooth weld-side end of the stalks of the element results simply from the kinking of the individual stalk, similar to a sharp kinking of a pipe.

The most favorable optical and functional properties of the thatched roof covering element result when the pairs of stalks are arranged and connected to form the element in such a way that the longer leg of a pair lies below the roof surface and the shorter leg lies above. This gives both a largely natural impression of a roof area covered with the thatched roof covering element in comparison with a roof covered with real thatch, as well as good absorption and discharge capacity for rainwater and a high resistance to wind attack.

A preferred embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail below with reference to a drawing. The figures in the drawing show in detail:
  • Figure 1 is a single stalk pair in perspective view
  • Figure 2 shows a thatched roofing element according to the invention, also in a perspective view.

As can be seen from FIG. 1, a single straw 2 is formed into a pair of stalks consisting of two stalk legs 21 and 22 by kinking around a kink 23. The area 24 of the stalk legs 21 and 22 in the vicinity of the kink 23 is flattened in order to ensure the most intimate connection possible to other stalk pairs in order to form a thatched roof covering element.

Such a thatched roof covering element I, consisting of a plurality of straw pairs 21, 22, is shown in FIG. 2 in a perspective view. As can be seen from the figure, the pairs of stalks 21, 22 are each formed by kinking a single stalk 2 around the kink 23. In the area 24 in the vicinity of the bend 23 the pairs of stalks are flattened and thermi cal welded together. A grid-like base 3, preferably made of non-weldable glass fiber fabric, serves as an additional reinforcement of the welding area.

Halmschenkel 22 oben liegen.Furthermore, it can be seen from FIG. 2 that the longer blades or longer blade legs 21 are at the bottom and the shorter blades or blade legs 22 are at the top.

Except as shown in the illustrated embodiment, the roof covering element I can also be designed without the base 3. There is also the possibility of making the stalk lengths more uneven and scattering over a larger length range.

The design of the straw cross-section and the laying of the thatched roof covering element on roof surfaces have already been explained in detail in the description of the earlier patent application mentioned at the beginning, to which reference is expressly made here, so that there is no need to go into this at this point.
