Claims (11)

1. Apparatus for the simultaneous dispensing and cutting of webs of rolled materials including a casing (1) with front and rearward walls (1a - 1b), side walls (1c) and bottom wall (1d), with automatic changeover of the roll in use, of the type according to which the roll of material in use (R1) is applied in abutment directly onto a driving drum (3) provided with an externally collapsible cutting device (4), so that by a mere manual pull on the free web of material projecting out of an opening of the casing under the apparatus after rolling up of the material on the drum, it will be possible to dispense and to cut automatically a web the length of which is approximately equal to the diameter of the drum, a spare roll (R2) being disposed above the roll in use (R1), waiting for said roll (R1) to be completely spent, with the possibility for the empty roll to be discharged into a storage container (30), said spare roll (R2) being placed on a supporting flap (24) the position of which is adjustable, said flap being linked hingedly and controlled by an assembly of transmission means (20) (35 - 40) and of interlocking means (29 - 32) in order to provide either the holding back of the spare roll, or the positioning thereof, automatically, in abutment on the drum (3) after the discharge of the nearly empty roll, (R1), said apparatus being characterized in that:
- the roll (R1) in use, placed on the driving drum (3), is also abutted rotatably on a cylinder (16) which is in turn rotatable relative to the said front and rearward walls of the casing, said free web to be pulled projecting out of the opening of the casing after having been passed along between two idle rollers (14) and (15);
- the roll in use (R1) accommodates within the core or spindle (9) thereof an urging means (29 - 37) imparting to said roll an urging force of constant magnitude directed downwardly in order to provide the discharge of this roll between the drum (3) and the cylinder (16), towards the storage container (30);
- the said transmission and interlocking means are actuated by a control means which is controlled itself by the urging means (29 - 37).
2. Apparatus as claimed in Claim 1, characterized in that a profiled organ (8) extends through the drum in order to co-operate alternately with either one of the walls of the casing, so that the drum (3) will be stopped after the cutting operation and reset in the waiting position.

Apparatus as claimed in Claim 2, characterized in that the profiled organ (8) is a small bar having a length which is slightly greater than the length of the drum (3), said small bar being provided with a profiled end (8a) in order to be abutted on a ramp (10) formed on the front wall (1b) of the casing, so that the small bar will be urged back during the rotation of the drum, prior to the projection of the blade for the cutting operation, and will be placed in a protruding position at the other end (8b) thereof, in order to be abutted against a stop (9) formed on the rearward wall (1a) of the casing, so that the drum will be stopped after the cutting operation, the small bar being returned automatically against a stop (11) into the drum by means of a spring (12) within the drum, the end (8b) of said small bar projecting out of the drum.

Apparatus as claimed in Claim 1, characterized in that the roll in use (R1) accommodates within the spindle or core (4) thereof a ballast (29) which, when the roll in use is nearly empty, controls the putting into operation of the second roll (R2), said roll (R1) being in abutment on the control means actuating said transmission and interlocking means, said control means being a palette (18) mounted pivotally at (19) on the front and rearward walls of the casing, an arm (18b) of said palette having an oblong opening (18d) which co-operates with the intermediary transmission and interlocking means (20) consisting of a finger (20a) integral with a rod (20) guided vertically rearwardly of the rear wall (1a ) of the casing, the upper end of said rod, when the palette (18) is pivoted downwardly, cooperating with the means associated with the flap (24) for holding back the spare roll (R2).

Apparatus as claimed in Claim 4, characterized in that the roll supporting flap (24) is associated with contoured pivotal means with an arched opening, and is linked hingedly at the upper portion thereof on the walls of the casing, and extends downwardly in a slanted manner in order to wedge the roll between this flap itself and a side wall (1c) of the casing, said flap, at the lower portion thereof, being provided, on the side opposite the rearward wall (1a) of the casing, with means consisting of a projection (24a) extending through an arched opening (1g) of the wall and co-operating with the actuating portion (23a) of the hook (23), a spring (2, 7) secured to the flap and to the hook returning the flap in the interlocking position after the falling down of the roll (R2).

Apparatus as claimed in Claim 1, characterized in that the assembly of the means for the automatic changeover of the rolls includes for holding back the spare roll (R2) a device consisting of a contoured arm (46) abutted elastically under a roller (48) which is connected to the flap (24) and is capable of being moved through an arched opening (1g), the end of the arm (46) being abutted on the projection (32a) of a movable stop (32) when laid roll is resting on the flap.

Apparatus as claimed in Claim 6, characterized in that the means (37) imparting an urging force to the roll in use has the function of a control means for the actuation of the transmission and interlocking means, said means (37) being a finger which is mounted hingedly linked directly on the end of a support (36) which is in turn linked hingedly to the end of a small connecting rod (35) supported by the same supporting pin as the stop (32), and returned elastically in the pressure or urging position by the finger (37) engaged within the spindle of the roll of material.

Apparatus as claimed in Claim 7, characterized in that the assembly of the means for the automatic changeover of the rolls includes a device for releasing the waiting roll (R2) consisting of a stud (35b) supported by the small connecting rod (35) and coming in abutment against a shoulder (32b) of the stop (32) in order to cause this stop to be pivoted when the nearly empty roll (R1) is moved along between the drum (3) and the cylinder (16), while dricing along thereby the finger (37) together with the support (36) thereof and the small connecting (35).

Apparatus as claimed in Claim 8, characterized in that the assembly of the means for the automatic changeover of the rolls includes a device for the automatic return of the finger (37) in the position of abutment within the spindle of the fresh roll placed in the position of use (R2), said device consisting of a hook (40) hanging freely to the arm (46) and co-operating with a projection (35a) of the small connecting rod (35) when the roll (R1) is moved along between the drum (3) and the cylinder (16), the arm (46), returned during this step of co-operation by the spring (31) thereof, pulling then upwardly the assembly consisting of the finger (37), the support (36) the small connecting rod (35) and the hook (40), the finger (37) pivoting vertically in order to be moved along past the roll (R2) and to penetrate within the spindle of said roll, whereby the hook (40), on completion of the movement, is made free by reaction from the projection (35a), in order to permit the pressure setting of the finger owing to the action exerted by the return spring (39) of the small connecting rod (35).
10. Apparatus as claimed in Claim 7, characterized in that the rotational cylinder (16) is mounted in a slightly slanting position relative to the drum (3), in order to provide a passage clearance for the nearly empty roll against the action of the finger (37).
11. Apparatus as claimed in Claim 1, characterized in that a plurality of rolls is placed in a waiting position above the roll in use, said rolls in a waiting position being automatically transferred towards the drum (3) by an assembly of pivotal means (42 - 44), which are combined together in order to provide the transfer of the rolls in succession.
