Abstract

Binding equipment is disclosed which binds loose sheets in covers which have thermoplastic adhesive at their backs to bind the sheets when such adhesive is heated. The equipment has two mutually spaced and parallel support walls to support the loose sheets within the covers. One of the walls is fixed and the other is movable within the frame supporting the walls. A support for the back of the cover is provided underneath the movable wall. This support is provided with a heater to activate the thermoplastic adhesive. The carriage mounting the movable wall moves along a displacement plane which slants upwards towards the fixed support wall.

Description

The invention relates to a binding device for binding loose sheets in cover blankets, which are provided on their back with a thermoplastic adhesive that has two mutually parallel support walls, one of which is connected to a sliding element in the frame, below the adjustment range the displaceable support wall is provided with a heating surface provided.

Such a binding device is described for example in DE-A-27 43 685. It has a frame in the form of a box-shaped base, which continues at the rear in an upright supporting wall. A slide element is mounted horizontally displaceably on the top of the frame. The slide element is bent up at its edge adjacent to the first support wall to form a further support wall, this support wall running parallel to the first support wall and having the same height. The support wall connected to the slide element can thus be displaced against or away from the first support wall, both support walls maintaining their parallel position. The slide element is guided on each side by two horizontal pairs of rollers, between which the slide element borders.

A set-up area provided with a heating device is arranged below the adjustment range of the displaceable support wall. Cover covers are placed vertically with their backs on them so that the back and the thermoplastic adhesive arranged on the inside of the back can be heated. The respective cover cover is pressed by the sliding support wall against the fixed support wall so that the cover cover maintains its vertical position during the heating process. Due to the heat, the thermoplastic adhesive softens on the inside of the back, so that the paper sheets inserted in the cover cover sink into the adhesive with their lower edges and are wetted there. After a certain, predetermined time, the cover is removed from the binding device, the sliding carriage element being withdrawn for this purpose. When the thermoplastic adhesive cools, the paper sheets are firmly integrated in the cover.

The known binding device is cumbersome to handle because the respective cover with the paper sheets collected therein must be corrected for one of the two supporting walls when the binding device is set up in an operator-friendly manner. This is particularly troublesome when, as is often the case, the device is used as a table-top device next to a work place where work is done while sitting. On the other hand, it is not possible to lower the support walls, since this would result in the support of the cover which is necessary for heating the back of the cover.

The invention is therefore based on the object of designing a binding device of the type mentioned in such a way that a cover can be more easily inserted and removed from the front between the two support walls.

This object is achieved in that the sliding element is mounted on a sliding plane rising to the support walls. Values between 15 ° and 45 ° , expediently between 20 ° and 30 ° are particularly suitable as the inclination angle of the sliding plane.

Due to the sloping sliding plane, the height of the upper edge of the sliding support wall in the retracted position of the slide element, i.e. in the open position, is considerably lower than after moving the movable support wall in the direction of the stationary support wall for the purpose of clamping one in the shaft between the two Retaining walls inserted cover. In the open position, a cover cover can therefore be inserted more comfortably into this shaft via the upper edge of the movable support wall without the subsequent clamping process suffering as a result. For the binding of the cover, the movable support wall has to be pushed forward, at the same time being raised so that the cover is reliably held. The respective cover is the better, i.e. the more stable it is, the lower its intrinsic stability, because with thin cover ceilings the sliding support wall is pushed forward and thus raised further than with thick and therefore more stable covers. Overall, therefore, an obliquely increasing sliding plane for the slide element particularly meets the practical requirements when operating the binding device according to the invention.

In addition, the footprint of the binding device is reduced by the sloping sliding plane.

In a particularly expedient embodiment of the invention it is provided that the height of the upper edge of the displaceable support wall when it rests on the fixed support wall is approximately equal to the height of the upper edge thereof, i.e. the upper edges of both support walls are at approximately the same height when they are in mutual contact, while the upper edge of the displaceable support wall is smaller the further the shaft is opened above the installation surface.

According to a further feature of the invention it is provided that a pressure element is movably guided on the slide element, the underside of which runs parallel to and below the displaceable support wall close above the installation surface and is guided on the slide element in such a way that the pressure element moves when the slide element or the movable support wall with its underside moved parallel and thus at a constant distance from the installation surface. This pressing element takes into account the fact that when moving the movable support wall in the direction of the fixed support wall, the lower channel te of the movable support wall. Thanks to its additional support in the lower area, the pressure element improves the hold especially with thin cover covers.

A favorable embodiment of the pressure element consists in the design as a pressure bracket which is pivotally mounted on the slide element on both sides via guide brackets. A raised edge of the housing or a roller should serve to support the guide bracket, the guide bracket being slightly bent upwards. This can ensure that the pressure bracket moves parallel to the installation surface when the slide element is moved.

In addition, the guide brackets should each have a projection on the underside, which run onto their support in the fully retracted position of the movable support wall. As a result, the pressure bracket is lifted from the hot installation surface in the open position, so that it can no longer heat up. In addition, it is expedient that the guide bracket is acted upon by a spring acting downwards.

The sloping sliding plane of the slide element requires particularly accurate guidance. For this purpose, it is proposed according to the invention that the slide element is guided by at least one rack guide, each consisting of a rack running in the sliding direction and at least one gear meshing therewith. Alternatively, there are two concrete solutions. On the one hand, the racks and the gearwheel could be very wide and then arranged in the center, so that the intermeshing of the racks and the gearwheel prevents the slide element from tilting. As an alternative to this, however, a rack guide can also be arranged on both sides of the slide element, two gear wheels being mounted in pairs at the same height and rigidly connected to one another. In this case, the rack guides can be made relatively narrow and thus save space. Due to the rigid coupling of the gear wheels, tilting of the slide element is practically impossible.

Even if such a rack guide of the slide element is particularly suitable for the binding device according to the invention, this does not exclude that such a rack guide is also used in binding devices with a horizontally displaceable slide element, because there too the problem of the cleanest possible guidance arises without the Tendency to tilt.

The rack (s) can be arranged in a stationary manner and the gear wheel or the gear wheels can then be mounted in the sliding element. This does not exclude that an inverted arrangement can also make sense.

It is also expedient for the rack guide (s) to be arranged on the underside of the slide element, since the slide element can then be supported on the underside of the rack guide (s).

To support the slide element against tilting of the front part downward, a further gearwheel, which also runs on the rack, can of course be provided, which is arranged in front of or behind the first gearwheel in the direction of displacement. A less complex solution, however, is to provide at least one support roller, which runs on a support track running parallel to the sliding direction. Appropriately, there should be at least one support roller and one support track on each side of the slide element, since this makes the guidance even more precise.

According to the invention it is further provided that the support roller (s) is or are resiliently mounted and that the slide element bears against a housing part via at least one braking element under the free action of the resilient support roller (s). The slide element can therefore not move automatically, so it remains in the position once it has been operated after it has been operated. This is particularly important for positions in which the movable support wall lies against the cover for the purpose of clamping it. The geometric ratios can be selected so that the tilting of the slide element necessary for the brake element to rest on the housing part and thus the spring action acting on the support roller (s) is supported by the contact of the movable support wall on the cover spine, so that this results in this the braking effect is increased. The braking effect can be canceled in a simple manner by applying a downward force to the slide element before it is displaced, as a result of which it is tilted slightly in such a way that the brake element detaches from the housing part on which it previously rested. Since downward forces also act when the slide element is actuated, this happens practically automatically when it is actuated.

The support roller (s) is expediently arranged on the upper side and the braking element (s) on the underside of the slide element in each case on its rear region. This arrangement is particularly advantageous for the function described above.

According to a further feature of the invention, it is provided that two support rollers are provided in front of and behind the respective gearwheel, as seen in the sliding direction. As a result, the exact guidance of the slide element is further improved, the two supporting rollers being preferably arranged such that the above-described tilting movement of the slide element is possible. The support rollers should all be arranged on the top or bottom.

In the drawing, the invention is illustrated in more detail using an exemplary embodiment. Show it:
  • Figure (1) a binding device in perspective view with partial sections and
  • Figure (2) the binding device according to Figure (1) in a vertical section.

The binding device (1) shown in the figures has a base-shaped housing (2) with an obliquely rising top (3). The underside - seen from the front - initially has a horizontal housing section (4), which is followed by an incision (5). This incision (5) is delimited by an obliquely rising housing section (6) running parallel to the upper side (3) and a housing section (7) falling at right angles to it. A horizontal housing section (8) then follows, which is slightly edged at its rear end. The back (9) of the housing (2) rises obliquely at right angles to the top (3), an indentation (10) being formed in the back (9), into the cover folders after heating the thermoplastic located on the inside of the back cover Adhesive can be adjusted so that the adhesive can cool down and the paper sheets get a firm connection with the cover. So that they cannot fall over, the standing surface (11) of the indentation (10) is inclined slightly inwards. Correspondingly, the rear wall (12) of the indentation (10) slopes upwards.

A support wall (13) runs vertically downward from the connection between the back (9) and the top (3) of the housing (2). At its side edges, it is connected to the side walls (14, 15) of the housing (2) there. Its lower edge ends just above an installation surface (16) which extends from there to the front and which is fastened on the inside of the horizontal housing section (8) of the housing (2). The footprint (16) is provided on the underside with a heating plate (17) which is pressed flat over a spiral spring (18). The heating plate (17) is designed in the usual way as an electrical resistance heater and connected to a power supply.

In the front part of the housing (2) between the top (3) and the horizontal and diagonally rising housing section (4, 6), an elongated slide element (19) is mounted, on the left side of which, in this view, the other corresponds to the fixed support wall (13) Support wall (20) is integrally formed. It can be moved with the slide element (19) in the directions of the double arrow A, that is to say parallel to the obliquely rising upper side (3) of the housing (2). The slide element (19) has a section (21) extending from the rear of the support wall (20), which partially surrounds the upper side (3) of the housing (2). In this area, the top (3) has an indentation into which the section (21) surrounds, so that it protrudes only slightly over the top (3) in the position shown, between the back of the support wall (20) and section (21) an indentation (22) is formed, into which the fingers of an operator can move to move the slide element (19) and thus the support wall (20).

The upper edge of the movable support wall (20) protrudes slightly beyond the outline of the housing (2) formed by the upper side (3). When the support wall (20) bears against the fixed support wall (13), the upper edge of the housing and the upper edge of the support wall (20) lie approximately at the same height. The lower edge of the movable support wall (20) has a relatively large distance from the installation surface (16) compared to the lower edge of the fixed support wall (13). If a cover with paper sheets contained therein is placed in the space between the two support walls (13, 20) - with the back of the cover resting on the installation surface (16) - the cover is only moved by the movable support wall (20) in the upper area pressed against the fixed support wall (13) and thus held. A pressure bracket (23) is provided so that a cover blanket set in this way is reliably supported and held in the part adjacent to the back cover. This pressure bracket (23) extends just below the lower edge of the movable support wall (20) parallel to it and in the immediate vicinity of the installation surface (16).

The pressure bracket (23) is bent up at both ends to guide bracket (24), the guide bracket (24) initially sloping upward and then arcuately to the front end of the slide element (19) and there at the pivot point (25) about a horizontal axis are pivotally mounted. Due to this articulation on the slide element (19), the pressure bracket (23) is moved together with the movable support wall (20), so that it is always below the lower edge of the support wall (20). So that the pressure bracket (23) is at a constant distance from the installation surface (16), the guide bracket (24) is supported on the inner edge (26) of the incision (5). When pushing the slide element (19), the guide bracket (24) grind over this inner edge (26). Since this inner edge (26) is part of the housing and thus stationary, but on the other hand the articulation point (25) moves with the slide element (19) and changes not only the horizontal distance to the inner edge (26), but also its height, the Pressure bracket (23) regardless of the position of the movable support wall (20) its distance from the installation surface (16), which is further supported by the slightly curved design of the guide bracket (24) between the inner edge (26) and the articulation point (25) Geometric design thus achieves a displacement of the pressure bracket (23) largely parallel to the installation surface (16), so that cover covers placed on it are always clamped in the same place regardless of their thickness.

The slide element (19) is slidably guided on both sides with identical guide devices.

An essential element of these guide devices is a rack guide (27), which consists of a rack (28) formed on the bottom of the inclined housing section (6) and a gear wheel (29) rotatably mounted in the slide element (19). The toothed racks (28) run parallel to the upper side (3) of the housing (2) and rise obliquely. The gears (29) are supported on the associated rack (28) from above. The gear wheels (29) located on both sides are rigidly connected to one another via a shaft (30). This prevents the carriage element (19 from tilting.

The slide element (19) is supported on the top by two supporting rollers (31, 32, 33, 34). Two support rollers (32, 34) are pressed against the inside of the upper side (3) by a spiral spring (35, 36). As a result, the slide element (19), when it is not being operated, is pivoted downward around the toothed wheels (29) in the front region of the housing (2). There, the slide element (19) has brake blocks (37), by means of which the slide element (19) is supported on the inner wall of the sloping housing section, in every position of the slide element (19). It can therefore not move automatically If the slide element (19) is moved from the position shown in the direction of the fixed support wall (13), only a slight downward pressure needs to be applied in the region of the indentation (22). The slide element (19) then swivels against the Effect of the spiral springs (35, 36) around the gears (29) counterclockwise, so that the brake pads (37) lift off easily and the slide element (19) can be easily moved.

In any case, this happens more or less automatically, since when the slide element (19) is displaced, downward pressure is usually also exerted.

After pressing the movable support wall (20) against a cover standing on the installation surface (16), the slide element (19) is released again, so that due to the action of the spiral springs (35, 36) it turns slightly clockwise around the gears (29 ) is pivoted with the result that the brake pads (37) come back into contact. This pivoting movement is intensified by the back pressure emanating from the cover, so that the braking effect of the brake pads (37) is correspondingly large and the cover is held firmly in its position. However, the pivoting of the slide element (19) clockwise is limited by the support rollers (31, 33). These are mounted in the carriage element (19) in a stationary but rotatable manner, their arrangement with respect to the gearwheels (29) slightly offset in the direction of the support walls (20) only permitting a limited pivoting movement, since they then rest on the inside of the housing top (3). The bending springs (35, 36) are wound around the support rollers (31, 33), an end (38) of the bending springs (35, 36) going in the direction of the support walls (13, 20) pressing onto the guide bracket (24) from above , so that they always lie on the inside edge (26). Overall, an extremely exact guidance of the slide element (19) and thus of the support wall (20) has been found, which also has the advantage of self-locking, which is easily and almost automatically released for the displacement of the slide element (19).

As can be easily seen, the oblique guidance of the slide element (19) and thus the support wall (20) makes it much easier to insert a cover into the shaft between the two support walls (13, 20), since the upper edge of the movable support wall to be overcome for this purpose (20) in the retracted position shown here is considerably lower than that of the fixed support wall (13). Nevertheless, the cover spines, which are not very stable due to their small thickness, are well supported by the support walls (13, 20), since the height of the upper edge of the support wall (20) is practically at the same height as that after clamping the cover the stationary support wall (13), the pressure bracket (23) providing additional stability. The binding device (1) according to the invention is thus characterized by particularly simple handling, both with regard to the introduction of a back cover and with respect to the slidability of the slide element (9) due to its exact guidance.
