Abstract

The universal timepiece comprises at least one hand (2) making one revolution in twelve hours and a disc (7) making one revolution in twenty-four hours. A crown allows simultaneous correction of the needle and disc display when it is placed in a second pulled position. When the crown is placed in a first pulled position and it is turned in one direction, the disc 7 alone is corrected. Between the disc and the needle is interposed a speed reducer (1) provided with a hollow wheel (25) containing a jumper (30). The jumper is engaged with a star (29) itself secured to a pinion (24) engaged with a toothing (21) carried by the disc. When acting on the teeth (21), the disc is moved in steps of one hour by jumping the nose of the necklace on the teeth of the star.

Description

The present invention relates to a universal timepiece with analog display comprising ordinary time indicator organs comprising at least one hour hand making a revolution in twelve hours, a date indicator organ, a date indicator organ. 'universal time comprising a disc or a hand making a revolution in twenty-four hours and a crown which can take at least two pulled positions with respect to a pressed down neutral position, that in a first pulled position, the crown actuates a wandering gear which drives either the date indicator or the universal time indicator according to the direction of rotation of the crown to allow the correction of said indicators independently of one another.

Patent CH-A-284,845 already describes a universal watch comprising, in addition to ordinary time-indicating bodies, a rotary dial driven by movement and indicating, opposite a fixed dial, the time of different time zones of the globe. This watch is characterized by a device making it possible to manually move said rotary dial independently of the ordinary indicating members, all so as to set the rotary dial to the time. In this system, the time-setting device comprises, in addition to a conventional crown, an additional pusher intended to advance the rotary dial by means of a rocker and a ratchet wheel. Thanks to friction, the movements of the rotary dial are not transmitted to ordinary time-indicating bodies. Although it is indicated that the movement of the rotary dial could be done by a crown replacing the pusher, nothing says how it should be done to achieve this function by means of the crown.

The calendar watch comprising two indicator bodies described in document CH-A-604 229 is not strictly speaking a universal watch since the hour indicators, which can be offset relative to each other, each do a tour in twelve hours, while a real universal watch has, next to the usual hour, minute and second hands, a another needle going around in twenty-four hours. Thus, in this construction, a sliding coaxial coupling is provided very simply to the two hour wheels. Since a speed reducer is not necessary, the construction is simplified and the problem of correcting the indications does not arise in the same way as in the present invention. Assuming that in the cited arrangement there is a simple speed reduction gear between the indicator 6 and the indicator 7 (see fig. 2 of the cited document), it would be necessary to have the sliding coupling between the indicator 6 secured to the wheel 3 and the toothing carried by this wheel and engaged with the reference 12, which would lead to a complicated construction.

Les remarques qui viennent d'être faites à l'alinéa ci-dessus peuvent s'appliquer également à la demande de brevet FR-A-2 124 430.The remarks which have just been made in the paragraph above can also apply to patent application FR-A-2 124 430.

Patent CH 515 540 which corresponds to application CH-A-12 111/68 describes a timepiece comprising an additional time member. If one of the figures of said patent shows the display of the date through a window, no explanation is given as to the mechanism for correcting this date from a single crown control which would also allow the correction of the date. 'additional time organ. In addition, it should be noted that use is made in this mechanism of a satellite to drive the additional indicator whereas in the present invention a speed reduction gearbox is used disposed between a first toothing secured to the indicator member of universal time and a second toothing attached to the hour hand, as will appear later.

The timepiece according to the present invention first presents the characters of a real universal watch since it has an indicator for twelve hours and another indicator for twenty-four hours. The mechanism provided then makes it possible to set the time indicator for the universal time by the single control of the crown stem and this in steps of one hour, the essential part of the invention residing in the reference system speed reducer which allows the time setting and indexing of the universal time indicator. To achieve this goal, the means which appear in the claims will be used.

  • - la figure 1 montre un aspect général de la pièce d'horlogerie selon l'invention et vue du côté cadran;
  • - la figure 2 est une vue en plan du mécanisme de mise à l'heure des organes indicateurs de l'heure de la pièce montrée en figure 1, le cadran et les organes indicateurs ayant été enlevés;
The invention will now be understood using the description which follows and of the drawing which illustrates it by way of example and in which:
  • - Figure 1 shows a general aspect of the timepiece according to the invention and seen from the dial side;
  • - Figure 2 is a plan view of the time setting mechanism of the time indicating members of the part shown in Figure 1, the dial and the indicating members having been removed;
  • - Figure 3 is a section along line III-III shown in Figure 2; and
  • FIG. 4 is a plan view and on an enlarged scale of the reduction gearbox which bears the reference 1 in FIG. 3.

The timepiece represented in FIG. 1 represents a wristwatch which firstly comprises ordinary time indicator bodies represented here by an hour hand 2 and a minute hand 3. The hour hand 2 makes a turn in twelve hours and moves opposite a dial 4 provided with twelve hour markers 5. FIG. 1 also shows that the timepiece includes a date indicator member 12. A conventional date ring is used here. internal toothing and provided with figures which appear through a window 6. The watch finally carries a body indicating the universal time which, in the example chosen, is a disc 7 which makes a revolution in twenty-four hours. Needle 2 and disc 7 rotate in the direction of arrow 9, the first twice as fast as the second.

A ce moment, le cadran fixe serait étendu jusqu'au centre de la montre lequel cadran porterait le nom des lieux géographiques 11.FIG. 1 shows that the disc 7 carries marks 10 marked from 1 to 24, these marks moving in front of names of geographic places 11 affixed to the fixed dial 4. As a variant, one could imagine the reverse, that is that is to say that the fixed dial 4 could carry the marks 10 while on the disc 7 would be affixed the names of the places 11. As a further variant, the disc 7 could be replaced by a needle making one revolution in twenty-four hours. At this time, the fixed dial would be extended to the center of the watch which dial would bear the name of the geographic places 11.

Figure 1 also shows that the timepiece is equipped with a crown 13. This crown can take two drawn positions 14, 15 relative to the depressed neutral position which is shown. According to the invention, in the first drawn position 14, we correct the date indicator member 12 when the crown is rotated in the direction of the arrow 16 and the universal time member 7 when the crown is rotated in the direction of the arrow 17 without touching the ordinary display of the time given by the hands 2 and 3. In the second pulled position 15, the crown simultaneously drives the disc 7 and the hands 2 and 3 in one direction or the other depending on the direction of manipulation of said crown.

If we refer to the position of the time indicators as shown in Figure 1, we see that if it is noon in Paris, which appears in the position of the hand 2, it is six hours in New York, twenty hours in Tokyo and twelve hours in Paris, as can be seen from reading disc 7. The timekeeping system is thus set for a resident of Paris who can at any time know the 'local time of his place of residence (by hands 2 and 3) and the time he is in different geographical locations (by the universal disc 7). Note that in order not to load the figure, only three names of capitals have been worn on the dial. In reality, the watch can contain up to twenty-four different names, thus marking the twenty-four time zones of the globe.

We will now see by an example how we proceed to set the time after a trip. If the traveler is going from Paris to New York (which is six hours behind Paris time), he will pull the crown in second position 15, he will move the hand 2 counterclockwise from the 5 mark where it was until marker 18 (six o'clock). By doing this maneuver, the disc 7 will also have moved back six hours bringing for example the indication twelve hours of the disc 7 (which was in front of the mark 19) in front of the mark 20. Once this operation completed, it will push back the rod in first position pulled 14 then actuate the crown in the direction of arrow 17, which will result in rotating only the disc 7 clockwise (arrow 9). It will stop this rotational movement when the twelve o'clock indication carried by the disc 7 is again in front of the mark 19 on the dial 4. In this new situation, the hand 2 indicates the local time which is that of New York (six o'clock). Finally, the last operation will be to push back the crown in neutral position pressed.

Ces éléments vont maintenant être décrits au moyen des figures 2, 3 et 4.To perform the functions which have just been described, the timepiece according to the invention comprises, on the one hand, a switching system linked to the direction of rotation of the crown and, on the other hand, a reduction gearbox with means for selectively acting on the universal time indicator. These elements will now be described by means of FIGS. 2, 3 and 4.

Le renvoi 1 comprend des moyens permettant la seule correction de l'organe indicateur de l'heure universelle quand la couronne est disposée dans une position axiale particulière comme cela va être expliqué maintenant.FIG. 2 is a plan view of the time-setting mechanism when the dial 4 and the disc 7 shown in FIG. 1 have been removed and FIG. 3 is a section along the line III-III in FIG. 2. If we refer more particularly to Figure 3, we see that the indicator of the universal time is in the form of the disc 7. Attached to the disc, there is a first toothing 21 which is shown in the figure 2 by its total diameter. In FIG. 3, we also see the ordinary bodies indicating the hours 2 and the minutes 3. Solid with the hour hand 2, we find the barrel wheel 22 provided with the second toothing 23 which has also been shown in the figure. 2 by its total diameter. The cannon wheel receives its rotational movement via a conventional timer which has not been shown and which makes it travel one revolution in twelve hours. A gear reduction gear 1 is arranged between the teeth 23 and the teeth 21. This gear comprises a pinion 24 and a wheel 25 which are shown in FIG. 2 by their total diameter. The gear ratios of the teeth 23, 25, 24 and 21 are chosen such that the disc 7 rotates in twenty-four hours. The reference 1 comprises means allowing the sole correction of the universal time indicator member when the crown is arranged in a particular axial position as will now be explained.

La roue 25 est en prise avec la denture 23 de la roue à canon 22.According to a preferred variant of the invention and if one refers more particularly to Figures 3 and 4, the reduction gear includes a core 26 pivotally mounted on the plate 27 of the timepiece by means of the screw 28. Solid of this core, there is a star 29 and the pinion 24 which is only partially shown in Figure 4. The pinion 24 is engaged with the teeth 21 of the disc 7. As can be seen in Figure 3, the reference 1 includes another hollowed-out wheel 25 which is pivotally mounted on the core 26. In the recess of the wheel 25 is placed a jumper 30 held in place by two pins 31. The nose 32 of the jumper 30 is engaged with the star 29. The wheel 25 is engaged with the teeth 23 of the barrel wheel 22.

In normal operation of the watch, the barrel wheel 22 is driven clockwise by the motor member (not shown) and rotates the wheel 25 in the direction of the arrow 33. The nose 32 of the jumper 30 drives the star 29 and the pinion 24 which is integral with it in the direction of the arrow 34. The disc 7 is then driven clockwise by its toothing 21 engaged with the pinion 24. In normal operation, the crown 13 is in the neutral position pressed (see fig. 1). We are dealing with a similar situation when the crown is placed in the second pulled position 15. In this position, we act on the barrel wheel by a time-setting mechanism known from the state of the art and not shown here. . When the crown is rotated in one direction or the other, the ordinary time-indicating bodies and the universal time-indicating body are set early or late.

We will now explain how, according to the invention, the time is set for the only disc indicating the universal time or the date indicating member, according to the direction of rotation of the crown.

On dispose la couronne en première position tirée 14 (voir fig. 2). The crown is placed in the first pulled position 14 (see fig. 2). In this position, the crown drives by a sliding and rocking mechanism, known per se, a wheel 35 which turns in the direction of arrow 36 if the crown is turned in the direction of arrow 17. The wheel 35 is engaged with a sliding gear 37 which has a toothing 38 and a three-toothed pinion 39. The axis of the gear 37 is guided in an oblong hole 40 so that if the wheel 35 turns in the direction of the arrow 36, the gear 37 will be forced to occupy a low position relative to the drawing. The toothing 38 will then come into engagement with the toothing 21 of the disc 7, as also seen in FIG. 3. The toothing 38 rotates in the direction of the arrow 41 and the disc 7 will be reset to the time in the clockwise direction shown. by arrow 42. The toothing 21 of the disc 7 drives the pinion 24 of the reduction gearbox 1 in the direction of arrow 34 (see fig. 4) as well as the star 29 which is integral with it. As the wheel 25 is fixed, retained as it is by the timer and the drive member, the tooth 43 of the star 29 will raise the nose 32 of the jumper 30 which will be positioned in the next hollow of the star.

Figure imgb0001
According to a preferred version of the invention, the number of teeth of the star 29 is calculated to advance the disc 7 in steps of one hour when the crown is operated. This positioning will be sensitive to touch since the nose of the necklace will stop at the bottom of the hollow of the star and will thus ensure a good notching. In a practical embodiment, the teeth of the disc 7 have seventy-two teeth and that of the pinion 24 which is engaged with it, twenty-seven teeth. In these conditions, to advance disc 7 by one hour (rotation of 15 °), it will be necessary to provide a notching position on the star every
Figure imgb0001
which leads to a star with 9 wings as is apparent in FIG. 4. This system of notching by time zone of one hour, in addition to precisely positioning the twenty-four hour organ, has another advantage: that of relaxing the time zone setting mechanism. Indeed, if the reduction gear being a simple friction like that described in the document CH-A-284 845 already mentioned, the twenty-four hour disc brought into its new position would result in a slight backward movement of the disc when it is pushed back the crown in neutral position.

If, now the crown, positioned in the first pulled position, is rotated in the direction of arrow 16, the wheel 35 rotates in the direction of arrow 44 and the wand 37 rotates in the direction of arrow 45, which will require occupying the dotted position shown in Figure 2, high position relative to the drawing. At this moment, the teeth of the pinion 39 engage with the teeth of the date crown 46, which makes it possible to correct the date which appears in the window 6.

The invention is not limited to a display of the universal time by a disc 7. This disc could be replaced by a needle going around in twenty-four hours. In an embodiment of this kind, the dial 4 would be extended to the center of the timepiece (see fig. 3). Surrounding the axis of the barrel wheel 22, there would then be another barrel carrying on one side the twenty-four hour hand and on the other, under the dial, a wheel engaging the reduction gear.
