Description

The invention relates to a foldable erecting wheelchair with a chassis which has two side frames which are held at a distance from one another in the use state of the wheelchair by collapsible struts formed by knee joint levers, and a foldable seat articulated on the chassis.

From DE-B-26 25 045 an erection wheelchair has become known, the chassis of which consists of two practically parallel side frames, which are kept apart by four collapsible struts during use of the erection wheelchair and which can be released when the erection wheelchair is not in use or when being transported Fold chair. In order to enable all struts to be folded together, they are connected to one another by rods and levers. However, this variety of struts, levers and rods contributes significantly to the high weight of the known erecting wheelchair. This in turn excludes that the disabled fold the erecting wheelchair by their own strength and e.g. can accommodate in a small space behind the driver's seat of a car. Another disadvantage is the relatively large width of the folded chair, which also makes it impossible to accommodate in a small space. Another disadvantage is the relatively high rigidity of the chassis, which impairs the off-road wheelchair's ability to move off-road, because in the event of uneven ground, not all of the wheels are on the ground.

At each end of the horizontal axis there is an octagonal metal plate to which metal capsules are hinged in the direction of the axis. These metal capsules take up the obliquely arranged struts which extend towards the floor or towards the seat and where their ends are likewise embedded in metal capsules. Each four oblique struts thus form a front frame and a rear frame, which are connected in the center to the horizontal axis already mentioned and in addition to four seat brackets inserted into corresponding capsules and running parallel to the horizontal axis. No less than thirty tension wires are used to brace the chair and backrest frame. Four tension wires are provided for connecting the outer ends of the oblique struts and sixteen tension wires for diagonal connections between the outer ends of the oblique struts with the octagonal metal plates. There are also six additional tension wires for the backrest. In addition, a cross bar is provided, which forms the diagonal connection in the seat level. When the chair frame is folded, the horizontal axes together with the oblique struts form a bundle of parallel bars (FIG. 3). After unfolding the chair frame and inserting the four seat braces, the horizontal axis is extended by a screw to simultaneously tension the diagonal tension wires.

The described construction of the collapsible field chair is not suitable for an upright chair. Quite apart from the fact that the construction is very complicated and time-consuming, a difficult person cannot be expected to assemble and fold up with difficulty. Simple operation is of great importance, however, if a wheelchair is to be set up and folded up by the wheelchair user himself, for example after or before a journey by car.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide an erect wheelchair which is light in weight, has a small fold width and can be folded or set up easily by the wheelchair user, preferably with one hand. Furthermore, the wheelchair should have good driving behavior even on difficult terrain, so that it can also be used for sporting purposes.

According to the invention, this is achieved in that tensioning cables connect the two side frames to one another and pretension the knee joint levers in order to exert pressure on the struts, which endeavors to keep the respective knee joint in the extended position after it has passed the dead center, so that the folding or Setting up the erecting wheelchair is made easier. This configuration absorbs spreading and displacement forces and prestresses the struts. The use of tension cables enables the number of struts and thus the weight of the wheelchair to be reduced. If, however, the number of struts is reduced, fewer struts have to be loosened when the wheelchair is folded up, or tensioned and secured when unfolded. This in turn makes it possible to dispense with connecting rods and connecting levers for the struts because the operation of a small number of struts presents no problems for the user of the wheelchair. The elimination of struts, connecting rods and connecting levers not only leads to a considerable reduction in weight, but also to a significant simplification and cheaper of the wheelchair. Since fewer struts, lever connecting rods also take up less space, a smaller folding width is also possible compared to known wheelchairs. If fewer struts are required, this also leads to less rigidity of the chassis. This has surprisingly proven to be an advantage by promoting the wheelchair's off-road capability. The chassis is thanks to the relatively large elasticity of the connecting elements between the two side frames twisted to a certain extent when driving on uneven terrain. However, there are limits to the relative movement between the side frames. However, if the chassis can twist a little, this means that even with certain bumps on the ground, all four wheels always maintain contact with the ground. The wheelchair therefore has optimal driving behavior even on uneven terrain. It is therefore also suitable for disabled sports. The erection chair according to the invention has the advantage that it can be set up or folded by the wheelchair user, for example, after or before a journey by car, by actuating one knee joint lever after the other. You can even do this easily with one hand.

At least one tensioning rope expediently runs practically parallel to the strut direction of two struts and at a distance from the plane in which the struts are arranged. In other words, the fastening points of the struts and the tension cable on the side frame can be thought of as being arranged at the corners of a triangle. The distances between the individual attachment points on the side frame can be dimensioned so that the desired stability and elasticity of the chassis is achieved. With a suitable arrangement of the tensioning cables, these tend to exert pressure on the struts, which is of particular interest if they have a knee joint. The knee joint is then pretensioned, which strives to keep the knee joint in the extended position. If, for example, a locking sleeve is provided to secure the knee joint in the extended position, the pretensioning also exerts frictional forces on the locking sleeve, which endeavors to keep it in the locking position.

At least one pair of tensioning ropes running diagonally to one another is advantageously provided. This increases the stability of the chassis. The plane of the diagonals can run practically horizontally or practically vertically. It is particularly advantageous if two pairs of tensioning cables running diagonally to one another are provided and the planes of the diagonals intersect approximately perpendicularly. The stability of the chassis is then increased.

In one embodiment of the invention it is provided that the pair of tensioning ropes, the level of the diagonal of which is arranged practically horizontally, connects the two side frames at the top. This is particularly advantageous if a tension cable and a strut are arranged at the bottom of the chassis.

Advantageously, the pair of tension cables, the diagonal plane of which is arranged practically perpendicular, connects the rear part of the chassis in order to counteract the forces which exert the weight of the user on the seat and which endeavor to bring the two side frames together at the top front.

The erecting wheelchair shown in FIG. 1 has a chassis 11 with the front wheels 13 and the rear wheels 14. The seat 17 and a height-adjustable support 19 are articulated at the front of the chassis at 15. The seat 17 is biased upwards by a spring 16, so that the user of the chair only has to exert a relatively small force on the support 17 in order to move from the sitting position into the standing position. A footrest 21 and a backrest 23 are articulated on the seat 17, the backrest 23 practically having the same angular position in every position of the seat 17 by means of a mechanism (not shown).

49 beim Zusammenfalten bewegt. The erecting wheelchair is foldable. It is sufficient to inactivate three struts, of which only the strut 25 is visible in FIG. 1. The struts are designed as toggle levers, so that it is sufficient to release the locking of the toggle levers and to pull the respective strut in the direction of the arrows 27, 29 and 31 shown in FIG. The reference numbers 33, 35 and 37 show the respective plane in which the strut 25, 51 and 49 moves when folded.

The chassis 11 of the erecting wheelchair is shown in more detail in Figure 2. The axes of the front wheels 13 in the position of Figure 1 are shown by dash-dotted lines 39 and 41. The dash-dotted lines 42 and 43 indicate the axes of the rear wheels 14 of Figure 1. The chassis 11 consists of two side frames 45, 47 which are connected to one another by two struts 49 and 51. The strut 49 connects the lower parts of the side frames 45 and 47, while the strut 51 connects the rear parts of the side frames 45, 47.

A tensioning rope 53 runs practically parallel to the struts 49 and 51. This tensioning rope advantageously consists of a stainless steel strand, means 55 being provided to make necessary if the length of the tensioning rope has to be changed. However, other materials can also be used for the tensioning rope, for example nylon. As FIG. 4 shows, the means 55 can be formed, for example, by a screw 58 which has a sleeve 60 for receiving a rope end and is fastened to a side frame 45, 47 with adjusting means 62, 63.

In the embodiment shown, two pairs 57, 59 of diagonally extending tensioning cables 57 ', 57 "; 59', 59" are provided, the planes of the diagonals being arranged such that they intersect. While the pair 57 is practically horizontal, the pair 59 is practically vertical. The pair 57 connects the two side frames at the top, while the pair 59 connects the two side frames at the rear.

If one looks at the chassis of FIG. 2, it can be seen that the struts 49, 51 tension the tension cables 53, 57 ', 57 ", 59', 59". The tensioning ropes therefore also have a tendency to exert pressure on the struts 49, 51. These have a knee joint, so that this pressure tends to keep the knee joint in the extended position. If the dead center of the knee joint is exceeded, the strut remains in its position thanks to the pressure from the tensioning cables. For safety reasons, however, the knee joint of the respective strut can be blocked by a pipe section 61. FIGS. 3a-d show the structure and the mode of operation of a strut using the example of the strut 49. The strut 49 consists of the strut parts 48, 50, 52, which are articulatedly connected to one another or to the side frames 45, 47, and the one already mentioned Pipe piece 61, the movement of which is limited in two directions by the stops 54, 56.

Zwischen diesen Seitenrahmen 18, 20 erstreckt sich eine Stoffbespannung 22.It was previously mentioned with reference to FIG. 1 that the seat 17 is articulated at 15 on the chassis 11. This articulation is clearly visible in FIG. 2, but the chassis 11 and seat 17 are shown separately in an exploded view. The seat 17 also consists of two side frames 18, 20. A fabric covering 22 extends between these side frames 18, 20.

If the weight of the user acts on the seat 17 in the direction of the arrow 24, forces arise which have the tendency to bring the side frames 45, 47 closer together at the front. The movement of the side frames 45 and 47 towards one another remains limited, however, because it is prevented by the arrangement of the struts 49, 51 and the tensioning cables 53, 57 ', 57 ", 59', 59" shown. However, the chassis 11 is not completely stiff and can therefore twist somewhat if forces act on the chassis 11 as a result of unevenness in the floor. This has the advantage that even in such a situation, all four wheels 13, 14 of the wheelchair remain in contact with the ground.

If the user of the wheelchair moves from the seat 17 to a car seat, for example, he can release the lock 61 on the respective strut 25, 29, 51 and then pull in the direction of the arrow 27, 29, 31. The chair is then foldable, i.e. the two side frames 45, 47 can be approximated. Now that the wheelchair is very light, the user can pick it up and stow it behind the car seat. Conversely, he is also able to take the wheelchair out of the car, with one hand being able to move one strut after the other in the direction of the arrows 27, 29, 31, and then after securing the knee joints with the tube pieces 61 to use the chair.
