Abstract

Apparatus for closing filled sacks, preferably large sacks, which consist at least in part of thermoplastic material, comprises a feeder for feeding the filled sacks into a closing station. The feeder preferably comprises a roller conveyor or a belt conveyor. Claims (7)

1. Apparatus for closing filled sacks consisting at least in part of thermoplastic material, preferably large sacks having a volume capacity of 1 m3 and more, comprising a conveyor preferably consisting of a belt conveyor (1) and serving to move the filled sacks (2) into the closing station, pressure-applying bars (25, 25'), which are parallel to each other and are adapted to be lowered onto the contents of the sack on both sides of the sack end (4), which is held taut by spreading means (5), which pressure-applying bars in their lowered position define between them a gap, which constitutes a passage for the sack end, and closing means (31, 32) disposed above the pressure-applying bar, characterized in that the closing device consists of welding bars (31, 32), which engage the sack end (4) between the spreading means (5) and the pressure-applying bars (25, 25') and are disposed on opposite sides of the sack end, the pressure-applying bar (25) which is disposed at the rear in the direction of conveyance is provided with adhesive nozzles (26), which are directed to the upper sack ply that is forced onto the contents of the sack, and that pressure-applying bar (25') which is disposed in front in the direction of conveyance comprises a folding edge or folding rod (30), which faces the sack end (4) and when the conveyor (1) has been started, the seam weld at the head has been formed and the welding jaws have been opened that folding edge or rod reversely folds the sack end and urges it against the trailing half of the upper side of the sack, which trailing half has been provided with glue strips and collapsed under pressure.

4. Apparatus according to any of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that each pressure-applying bar (25, 25') is platelike and covers approximately onehalf of the upper surface of the sack.

Apparatus according to any of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the pressure-applying bars (25, 25') are provided with vertical carriers (23, 23'), which are connected to the frame by parallel links (21, 22, 21', 22') in such a manner that the pressure-applying bars extending in a vertical plane can be lowered parallel to themselves onto the contents of the sack on both sides of the sack end (4), which is held taut.

Apparatus according to claim 5, characterized in that the parallel links (21, 22) associated with the pressure-applying bar (25) which is disposed at the rear in the direction of travel are - pivoted to the vertical coupling link (16) associated with parallel links (12, 13) which are movably mounted in the frame and are pivoted to said coupling link on the same side as said rear pressure-applying bar so that the pressure-applying bar (25) is adapted to be raised above the top edge of the top edge of the sack end (4) which top edge is held by spreading means (5), which move in unison with the belt conveyor (1).

Apparatus according to any of the preceding claims, characterized in that one of the parallel links (12, 21, 22') of each set is secured to an associated shaft (7, 20, 19'), which serves to pivotally move the parallel links and for that purpose is connected to a lever (8, 28, 28'), to which a fluid-operable piston cylinder unit (8', 27, 27') is pivoted.
