In Figur 3 ist eine Schalteinrichtung dargestellt, bei der die nicht dargestellten Hauptkontakte in der eingeschalteten Stellung des Trenners den Strom führen, und die ebenfalls geschlossenen Kontakte einer zweiten Kontakteinrichtung 13, 14 sowie einer ersten Kontakteinrichtung 15, 16 in elektrischer Hinsicht parallel zu den Hauptkantakten liegen. Beim Öffnen des Trenners, nachdem die erwähnten Hauptkontakte sich getrennt haben, verlager sich der Strom zunächst auf die noch geschlossene erste Kontakteinrichtung mit den elastischen Kontaktfingern 15 und dem beweglichen Kontaktstück 16. Nach einem kurzen Hub trennt die erste Kontakteinrichtung ebenfalls (Fig. 3a) und der auszuschaltende Strom fließt jetzt nur noch über die Kontaktstücke 13, 14 der zweiten Kontakteinrichtung, nämlich über den mit dem Kontaktstück 16 fest verbundenen Abreißstift 13 und den im Gehäuse 17 axial beweglich gelagerten Kontakt 14. Bei weiter fortschreitender Ausschaltbewegung wird wegen der formschlüssigen Verklammerung dieser beiden Kontaktstücke 13 und 14 über den mit dem Kontakt 14 fest verbundenen Federteller 18 die Rückholfeder 19 gespannt, bis beim Überschreiten des Haltevermögens der Verklammerung die Kontaktstücke 13, 14 sich trennen und der Kontakt 14 schnell in seine Ausgangsposition am Anschlag 20 zurückeilt (Fig. 3b). Hierbei entsteht zwischen dem Kontakt 14 und dem AbreiBstift 13 ein Schaltlichtbogen.
