Description

Imidazolinderivate der Formeln I―III verwendet:

It is known that washed textiles, especially those made from cellulose fibers, have an unpleasant hardening after drying. This occurs particularly when the laundry is done in the washing machine. Such undesirable hardening of the handle can be eliminated by treating the textiles after washing in a rinsing bath with cationic substances which contain at least two long-chain aliphatic residues in the molecule. In practice, the water-dispersible dialkyldimethylammonium salts or imidazoline derivatives of the formulas I ― III are used in particular for this purpose:

Figure imgb0003

B. Cl, Br, CH3OSO 3 oder CH3OPO 3.In these formulas, R, alkyl or alkenyl with 8-22, preferably 16-18, carbon atoms, R 2 alkyl with 1-4 carbon atoms, preferably methyl, R 3 is methyl or hydrogen, x is a number 1-5 and A is an anion such as B. Cl , Br , CH 3 OSO 3 or CH 3 OPO 3 .

Aqueous dispersions of these raw materials can be produced with cold water up to a concentration of 10-15%. However, more concentrated formulations become viscous, gel-like after a short period of storage and cannot be dispersed in cold water without gel formation. The following requirements are therefore placed on a good concentrate of fabric softener: good cold water dispersibility, no thickening of the formulation when stored, no separation of the formulation and no formation of sediment.

It has now been found that these requirements can be met if the quaternary ammonium compounds listed above are combined with a certain amount of a fatty amine polyglycol ether.

The fatty amine polyglycol ethers b) are commercially available products (Genamin-S * brands). In the preparation of the concentrated fabric softener according to the invention, the cationic softening compounds of the formula I ― III are expediently used in the form of their concentrated solutions in lower alcohols, preferably isopropanol or in a mixture of these alcohols with water. The fabric softeners according to the invention therefore contain a certain amount of such lower alcohols. Possible acids are, for example, acetic acid, phosphoric acid or hydrochloric acid. These acids are used in an amount which corresponds to one acid equivalent per amine group in the fatty amine polyglycol ether b).

In addition, the concentrated fabric softener according to the invention can also contain other conventional substances and auxiliaries, such as. B. cationic or nonionic surface-active substances, solubilizers such. B. p-cumene sulfonate, electrolytes, acidifiers such. As phosphoric acid, acetic acid, organic complexing agents, optical brighteners and colors and fragrances. They serve to additionally influence the handle of the goods or other properties of the textiles to be treated or to adjust the viscosity, to regulate the pH or to increase the stability at low temperatures.

The concentrated fabric softening agents according to the invention give any textile materials, especially those made from natural or regenerated cellulose, wool, cellulose acetate, triacetate, polyamide, polyacrylonitrile, polyester, polypropylene, a pleasant and soft feel. The use as a laundry treatment agent for terry cloth and underwear is particularly advantageous. These fabric softener mixtures are produced by simply mixing or dispersing them Individual components in water. These fabric softeners according to the invention can either contain a compound of the formula up to 111 combined with IV or else they contain a mixture of 2 or more compounds of the formula I to III within the stated limits. If a mixture of two or more compounds of the formulas I to III is present, the mixing ratio with one another is completely uncritical and can have any value.

These fabric softener concentrates are used as usual by adding them to the last rinse water after the textile wash. The textile material treated in this way is then dried. However, these concentrates can also be diluted beforehand to an active substance content of 4 to 8%, as is the case with commercially available fabric softeners. The so-called 3- to 1-fold concentrates can also be produced with correspondingly less water.

The fabric softener concentrates described above have good softening properties.

They are characterized by good stability. The cold water dispersibility is excellent. No gel formation was observed. The formulations also show a low viscosity in a highly concentrated form. Thickening (gelling) after a longer storage period does not occur.

An improvement in the grip effect was also found, so that, surprisingly, the fatty amine polyglycol ethers act not only as an emulsifier but as a softening component. These fatty amine polyglycol ethers on their own do not have a softening effect because they do not absorb onto the tissue.
