- This pipe socket 15 is the end of a line (not shown) and provided with an intermediate pressure pump through which the main chamber 2 is connected to the secondary chamber 3. With this arrangement, oil is continuously pumped through the pressure pump from the secondary chamber 3 to the main chamber 2 during operation of the internal combustion engine, which then emerges from the pipe socket 15.
- the pipe socket 15 is supported by an elastic ring 16 on an intermediate wall 17 above the flap 8 and bevelled at its mouth so that the flap 8 in the open position. completely closes the mouth.
- the spring 12 on the flap 8 is coordinated in its effect so that when the internal combustion engine is started up, it is immediately put into the closed position by the flow pressure of the oil emerging from the pipe socket 15. This ensures on the one hand that there is always sufficient oil available in the main chamber 2 to supply the lubrication point of the internal combustion engine.
- the spring 12 provides for an immediate opening of the flap 8 when the internal combustion engine is stopped, so that the large opening 7 in the intermediate wall 4 enables the oil level to be quickly compensated for via both chambers 2 and 3. This has the great advantage that the exact oil level in the oil pan can be determined at any time with the help of a dipstick, regardless of the respective temperature.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a lubrication device for internal combustion engines for reliable oil supply in a large inclined position, with an oil sump which has at least two chambers arranged one behind the other in the longitudinal direction of the internal combustion engine, to the upper side of which, when the upper main chamber is inclined, the suction side of a pressure pump supplying the lubricating points of the internal combustion engine with oil is, while the lower sub-chamber in an inclined position is connected to the main chamber by a delivery line with an oil pump and, furthermore, there is an opening compensating the oil level between the two chambers.
In such internal combustion engines with an oil pan divided into several chambers, the individual chambers are at least partially covered, so that the required amount of oil e can accumulate or be stored in the chambers even when the internal combustion engine is in an inclined position. The 31 is continuously conveyed into the higher main chamber by means of an oil pump from at least one secondary chamber, which may be lower due to the inclined position of the internal combustion engine. The main chamber must always be sufficiently filled with oil, since this is where the lubrication points of the internal combustion engine are supplied with oil. After the internal combustion engine has been switched off, the oil in circulation runs back undefined into the chambers of the oil pan. However, since the oil level measurement and refilling are carried out in only one of the chambers, the chambers must be connected to each other so that the oil level is uniform for the measurement.
T. überdeckende Stauwand an. From DE-PS 1 298 368 a lubricating oil system of this type for internal combustion engines has become known, two chambers being formed in the oil pan by a vertical and transverse partition. Above the partition one of the two chambers closes z. T. covering dam wall. The dividing wall is horizontally penetrated by two pipes protruding into the chambers on both sides, which run at the level of the common oil level. This arrangement compensates for the oil level in both chambers when the internal combustion engine is in a horizontal position. As a result, the arrangement of a dipstick protruding into the main chamber, for example, makes it possible to determine the total amount of oil present. If, however, the internal combustion engine is outside of its initial position, it may happen that due to the inclined position, the oil is not compensated, so that the oil level read on the dipstick is inaccurate. The same also applies to an internal combustion engine which is already installed in a motor vehicle or the like with a certain inclined position. Here too, when using pipes as connecting elements between the chambers, the internal combustion engine must be brought into the initial inclined position in order to compensate for the oil level in the chambers. If the clear pipe cross-section is chosen too large in relation to the pipe length, then depending on the inclined position it can happen that the amount of oil to be accumulated in the main chamber is not sufficient to reliably supply the lubrication points of the internal combustion engine. If, on the other hand, the internal cross-section of the pipelines is too narrow, the oil level must be compensated for very long after the internal combustion engine has been switched off, especially at low temperatures, which can easily lead to incorrect measurements. Even when filling, there is a risk that too little oil will be filled in if the measurement is carried out in the chamber into which it is also filled.
Furthermore, a reciprocating internal combustion engine for vehicles is known from DE-OS 29 03 617, which has an oil pan that closes off the crankcase at the bottom. A lubricating oil tank connected to the oil pan is connected to it by a channel which is closed by a valve flap. In all normal operating conditions of the internal combustion engine, the oil level in the oil pan is kept below the rotating range by the crank mechanism by means of a suction pump. If the channel is opened by actuating the valve flap, the oil level rises due to the inflow of oil from the lubricating oil tank. The friction power of the crank mechanism immersed in the oil is thus increased, i. H. there is additional engine braking. The suction pump arranged in the oil pan and constantly driven ensures that the oil level is lowered again after the valve flap is closed, so that the additional engine braking is canceled again.
Based on these findings, it is an object of the invention to improve a lubrication device of the type outlined at the outset with simple means in such a way that the compensation of the oil level between the two chambers as quickly as possible after switching off the internal combustion engine through a relatively large cross-section provided directly in the partition wall can be done.
The object is achieved in that a spring-loaded flap is arranged in the opening direction in the main chamber in front of the oil compensation opening, for its automatic actuation in the closing direction automatic hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical or mechanical means are provided anyway when the internal combustion engine is operating.
These measures ensure that the flap opens by spring force immediately after switching off the internal combustion engine and thus, even at low temperatures, the oil level in the two chambers is quickly compensated for by one of the requirements speaking large opening in the partition. The oil level is also compensated for when the internal combustion engine has an inclination that deviates from a basic position. Even when filling in oil, it proves to be advantageous that this oil is quickly distributed over all chambers, even at high viscosity, so that the level of the balanced oil level can be determined with the dipstick shortly after the oil has been filled in.
In a further development of the invention it is provided that the spring-loaded flap is arranged below the mouth of the delivery line causing the oil supply to the main chamber and that the closing torque for the flap is generated by the flow pressure of the oil flowing out of the delivery line. It is expedient if the pipe end of the delivery line opening into the main chamber serves as a stop for the flap in the open position. For effective loading of the flap in all positions by the oil flow acting in the closing direction, it is advantageous if the path of the flap from one end position to the other is within the range of an acute angle.
The invention is described below using an exemplary embodiment with reference to the drawing.
Es zeigt

- Fig. 2 einen Schnitt nach der Linie 11-11 in Fig. 1:
- 1 shows a longitudinal section through an oil pan divided into two chambers, the oil compensation opening of which is closed by a flap according to the invention,
- 2 shows a section along the line 11-11 in Fig. 1:
An oil pan 1 of an internal combustion engine, partially shown in FIG. 1, is divided into two
The
