Claims (12)

1. Apparatus for the U-shaped application of an adhesive strip (3K) longitudinally around the edge of a shaped part of sheet metal (B), the strip guiding means of which apparatus has a funnel-like pre-folding channel (10), from which the pre-folded strip runs between two pressure rollers (lla, 11b) which are pressed resiliently against each other and which press the strip simultaneously against the two sides of a shaped part of sheet metal which has been introduced into the strip fold zone, characterized in that the pair of pressure rollers (11a, 11b) is pivotable as a unit about a common axis (S2), which lies in a straight line which runs parallel to the roller axes (12a, 12b) and with reference to the strip conveying direction runs at a distance (Al) in front of the roller axes approximately in the plane of symmetry of the pre-folding channel (10), and that the pressure rollers (11a, 11 b) are so drivable by motor that both rollers, even when differences occur between their speeds, always exert an at least approximately equally great force of conveyance onto the shaped part of sheet metal (B) which has been passed through.

Apparatus according to Claim 1, characterised in that in the neutral position (N) of the pair of pressure rollers (11 a, 11 b), in which its plane of symmetry at least approximates to that of the prefolding channel (10), the distance (Al) between the pivot axis (S2) of the pair of pressure rollers (11a, 11b) and a plane (E) situated through its axes (12a, 12b) coincides at least approximately with that between the pivot axis (S2) and the outlet (10b) of the pre-folding channel (10).
3. Apparatus according to Claim 1, characterised in that the pair of pressure rollers (11a, 11b) is held resiliently in the neutral position (N), in which its plane of symmetry coincides at least approximately with that of the pre-folding channel (10).

Apparatus according to one of the preceding Claims, characterised in that a strip deflecting roller (9), which is constructed as a pre-folding roller, is arranged immediately ahead of the pre-folding channel (10), which roller also has a slightly arcuate or V-shaped profile with the smallest diameter in the middle of the roller.
5. Apparatus according to Claim 4, characterised in that the profile angle of the deflecting and preforming roller (9) is approximately 155° to 165°.
6. Apparatus according to one of the preceding Claims, characterised in that the V-angle of the preforming channel (10) at the inlet (10a) is approximately 90° to 100° and at the outlet (10b) is approximately 10° to 15°.
7. Apparatus according to one of the preceding Claims, characterised in that the effective passage length (A3) of the pre-folding channel (10) is approximately 0.6 to 0.8 times the effective width of the deflecting and pre-folding roller (9).

Apparatus according to one of the preceding Claims, characterised in that the drive of the pressure rollers (11a, 11b) is effected by a common motor, at least one of the two rollers (11a, 11b) being coupled with the motor by means of a torsionally elastic element, preferably a flexible and torsionally elastic shaft (14a, 14b).

Apparatus according to one of the preceding Claims, characterised in that at least one of the two axes (12a, 12b) of the pressure rollers (11a, 11b) is pivotably mounted and urged towards the other roller by means of a spring (16), the pivot axis (S1) being so adjusted or so capable of being adjusted that at a specified spacing of the rollers the roller axes (12a, 12b) are exactly parallel with each other.
10. Apparatus according to one of Claims 4 to 9, characterised in that the strip deflecting and pre- folding roller (9) is displacable against the force (HF9) of a spring in a direction lying between the inlet and outlet direction of the strip.
11. Apparatus according to Claim 10, characterised in that the direction of displacement of the deflecting and pre-folding roller (9) runs approximately parallel to the axes (12a, 12b) of the pressure rollers (lla, 11b).
12. Apparatus according to one of the preceding Claims, characterised in that the pair of pressure rollers (11a, 11b) is displacable rearwardly against the force (HF13) of a spring in the direction of its axes (12a, 12b).
