Abstract

A weapon rest is provided for rifles and the like, which has a support section, and a body carrying the support section. The body defines a central recess and a plurality of blind holes extending radially outwardly from the central recess and communicating with the central recess. A plurality of legs are engageable in the blind holes, and central lock apparatus in the central recess is adapted to engage the legs to releasably secure them in the body. Each of the legs may have a reduced portion for engagement with the central lock apparatus. The central lock apparatus may include, in different embodiments, various features for engaging the legs.

Description

The invention relates to a weapon support for a rifle or the like. According to the preamble of claim 1.

Such a weapon rest has become known, for example, with the subject of FR-A-2 414 707. There support legs are inserted into the blind holes of the body at an incline from below and they are also releasably fixed there with the aid of a spring-loaded ball. However, a central lock common to all supporting legs is missing. Therefore, it is not possible with this known weapon support to lock and release all support legs together.

With the subject of US-A-3 779 497 a further tripod has become known, in which a central lock acting for all support legs is present. However, the central lock here consists of a wedge-shaped body which can be screwed into the central recess of the mounting body for the support legs with the aid of a screw and a wing nut attached to the screw. Such an arrangement is not only very susceptible to contamination because the body with its wedge surfaces must fit snugly against the associated longitudinal surfaces of the support legs, but in addition the operation is still difficult and cumbersome because the wing screw must be tightened with many turns so that a good one Seat of the wedge-shaped body in the central recess of the support body receiving the support legs is reached.

The invention is therefore based on the object of developing a weapon support according to FR-A-2 414 707 so that a support for the support legs which is not susceptible to contamination is given in the body receiving the support legs, with the possibility of adapting the inclination of the support legs to different terrain conditions to be able to.

To achieve the object, the invention is characterized in that a central recess with a central lock for locking the support legs is provided in the body, the blind holes cut obliquely into the recess, and that one or more of the blind holes form an angle to the vertical, which is different from the corresponding angle of the other blind holes.

With the arrangement of a centrally operated central lock, the advantage is achieved that all support legs can be locked and unlocked together. Due to the fact that the blind holes cut obliquely into the recess in the body, there is the advantage that the central closure only rests with its edge on associated line surfaces of the support legs. Such an arrangement is not very susceptible to contamination because the central closure removes any contamination due to its edge pressure, whereas this was not possible with the subject of US Pat. No. 3,779,497.

The arrangement of several blind holes at different angles results in the advantage that, depending on the terrain, the support legs can optionally be inserted into different inclined blind holes, so that there is a favorable adaptation to uneven terrain. The shooter can now, depending on the local conditions, optionally insert the support legs of the weapon rest in the blind hole that is best adapted to the respective local conditions with regard to its inclination.

The central lock can be designed in various embodiments.

A first embodiment provides that the central lock consists of a locking screw which can be screwed into the central recess and which has an edge in a collar of reduced diameter at the head of the support leg. By screwing the locking screw into the thread of the central recess, the edge on the bottom end face of the central recess is pressed into a collar of reduced diameter on the support leg, so that the support leg is held axially immovable.

A second embodiment provides that the central closure consists of a threaded end screw screwed into the central recess, which carries on its inner end face a plurality of balls, each of which engages in the blind hole associated with the head of the support leg, the balls through a in the inner circumference adjacent clamping ring are pressed radially outwards.

This exemplary embodiment does not use a locking screw, but rather balls pressed radially outward through a clamping ring, which are pressed into the collar of reduced diameter at the head of the support leg. Accordingly, a snap-in coupling is provided between the head of the support leg and the central lock, so that both assembly and disassembly takes place via the snap-in lock mentioned. It is no longer necessary to operate a locking screw.

The third embodiment provides that the central lock consists of a threaded end cap screwed into the central recess, the center bore of which is penetrated by a rotary lock which rotates with a cam ring and rests spring-loaded in the axial direction on the collar of the head of the support leg.

In this embodiment, a cam ring is used which has cams protruding in the radial direction, which press into the collar of reduced diameter at the head of the support leg. By rotating the cam ring, recesses with a smaller radial distance from the axis of rotation then reach the region of the collar at the head of the support leg, so that the support leg can be pulled out of the blind hole in the body.

It is particularly advantageous here if the cam ring is pressed spring-loaded in the axial direction against the collar of the support leg, because the support leg is then secured not only against axial displacement, but also against rotation. Said cam ring can also be referred to as an eccentric rotary lock because the radially projecting cams, which engage in the collar on the head of the support leg, have a different radial distance from the axis of rotation of the cam lock than the recesses adjoining the projecting cam in the circumferential direction smaller radial distance to the axis of rotation.

In the first and third exemplary embodiments, the rotation of an actuating element (central lock) is necessary. In order to make this rotation simple and safe to use, a so-called ball index is provided, which consists of a spring-loaded ball which engages in an associated recess in the body in the closed position of the central lock. With this detent position, the central lock is assigned a clear lock position and a clear open position.

The arrangement of the elongated holes, which are arranged radially distributed around the circumference around the central recess, is arbitrary. In the context of the present invention, a number of five blind holes is preferred. This results in a wide range of possible combinations, since a weapon support with three support legs can be set up, the three support legs being able to be inserted as desired over the five blind holes. Instead of a tripod, it is also possible to build a bipod, which means that there are even more possible combinations when arranging five blind holes.

In the arrangement of, for example, five blind holes, three blind holes are arranged with the same angle of the longitudinal axis to the horizontal (preferably 50 degrees), while the longitudinal axis of other blind holes takes a different angle to the horizontal.

At the outset, it was explained that a favorable power transmission from the rifle rest to the ground is important. To solve this problem is also the special design of the bottom end of the support leg, which according to the invention has a length-adjustable steel tip.

It is expedient if the steel tip is removably clad by a rubber foot and the surface of the rubber foot that is closest to the ground forms an angle to the horizontal.

With the features mentioned there is the additional advantage that there is a fine, additional leveling of the weapon tripod with the weapon and the telescopic sight into the horizontal by means of an adjustable steel tip with a rubber foot. If necessary, the rubber foot can be removed immediately, e.g. when shooting on very hard, slippery terrain.

With this rubber foot release of approx. 5 degrees, the result is an extremely handy, shock-absorbing effect, as well as a high stability of the weapon tripod with the precision weapon, e.g. on smooth surfaces, such as plastic coverings, i.e. office tables or window sills made of aluminum with anodized and hard surface or window sills made of steel or scratch-resistant plastic paint or powder coating.

The rubber feet also have the advantage of not leaving any damage when shooting on office desks and making no noise when manipulating.

When the rubber foot is placed on the floor, the surface closest to the floor takes a small angle, e.g. from 5 degrees to the horizontal, a. When the shot is fired, the angle of the longitudinal axis of the support leg with respect to the horizontal decreases because the support legs are spread radially outward due to the recoil force introduced, whereby at the same time this contact surface closest to the bond comes into full-surface contact with the ground and thereby produces a braking effect and shock absorption. This avoids an inadmissible spreading apart of the support legs and the fastenings of the heads of the support legs in the blind holes are subjected to little stress due to bending. The central lock can therefore be constructed particularly lightly and simply because, by avoiding the inadmissible spreading apart of the support legs due to the arrangement of a rubber foot with an exempted contact surface, a brake and shock absorber effect is achieved when the shot is fired.

In Figure 1, the barrel of a weapon 13 rests on a support bolt, which in turn is held in a pivot part 14 of the weapon rest. The support bolt, which carries the weapon 13, is axially adjustable in the swivel part 14, while the swivel part 14 can be rotated radially in the body 1 of the weapon rest.

On the underside of the body 1 there is a central recess 30 into which pocket holes 23, 28 (see FIGS. 3b and 4 to 8) cut obliquely (for example at an angle of 50 degrees to the horizontal). The bottom inner circumference of the central recess 30 has openings which are caused by the cutting of the blind holes 23 in an oblique direction with respect to the longitudinal axis of the recess 30. When a head 24 of a support leg 7 is inserted into the associated blind hole 23, a collar 20 of reduced diameter reaches the area of the central recess 30.

The central recess 30 has an internal thread 22, in which the external thread of an associated locking screw 3 engages. The locking screw 3 has an end edge 21 which, when the locking screw 3 is screwed into the thread 22, clamps into the collar 20 of the head 24 of the support leg 7.

In order to avoid that the locking screw 3 has to be completely unscrewed, a ball catch 2 is provided which consists of a spring-loaded ball which is biased in the axial direction with a compression spring 4. It is sufficient if the locking screw 3 is loosened by only one turn, so that the edge 21 disengages from the collar 20 of the head 24 of the support leg 7 and the support leg 7 can be pulled out of the blind hole 23 in the axial direction.

In the closed position, when the edge 21 of the locking screw 3 is inserted into the collar 20 of the support leg 7, the ball of the ball catch 2 engages (see FIG. 1) and the closed position is thus defined.

The other supporting legs 5 and 6 are also fixed in the same way.

By loosening the locking screw 3, all support legs 5, 6, 7 can be pulled out at once and reinserted and fixed with a single movement.

Figure 2 shows a second embodiment of a central lock. The central lock here consists of a screwed into a thread 25 of the central recess 30, the end pin 9 carries at its front end balls 8, each ball being assigned to a blind hole. On a shoulder of reduced diameter of the end pin 9, a clamping ring 10 is arranged, which presses the balls 8 radially outwards. As a result, the balls 8 are pressed into the collar 20 of reduced diameter of the support legs 5, 6, 7 and the support legs are thereby fixed. This type of installation avoids the manual actuation of a central lock, because the support legs 5, 6, 7 simply have to be plugged in or pulled out and always lock with the ball 8 in the closed position.

Figur 3a) in den Bund 20 verminderten Durchmessers des jeweiligen Stützbeines 5,6, 7 eingreifen.FIGS. 3a and 3b show a third embodiment in which an end ring 15 is screwed into the thread 35 of the central recess 30. Through the central bore 34 of the end ring 15, the peg-shaped rotary lock 11 engages, which is connected in one piece to its material on its bottom end face with a cam ring 36. The cam ring 36 is rotatable and spring-loaded in the axial direction by the compression spring 12 relative to the collar 20 of the head 24 of the support legs 5, 6, 7. According to FIG. 3b, the cam ring 36 has locking cams 26 which are distributed radially around the circumference and which, in the locked state (see FIG 3a) engage in the collar 20 of reduced diameter of the respective support leg 5, 6, 7.

When the twist lock is rotated, recesses 27 then come into the region of the respective collar 20 of the support leg with a reduced radial distance from the axis of rotation of the twist lock, so that the support leg can be pulled out.

To fix the open position and the closed position of the rotary lock 11, a ball catch 2 is again provided, an open position (ball catch 2) and a closed position (ball catch 2 ') being shown in FIG. 3b.

Each blind hole 23, 28 is assigned a locking cam 26 and a recess 27 lying in the circumferential direction next to it.

Die Figur 4 bis 8 zeigen verschiedene Einsteckmöglichkeiten von Stützbeinen 5, 7.FIGS. 4 to 8 show different insertion options for support legs 5, 7.

Figure 4 shows the insertion position with a three-support leg, while Figure 5 shows the insertion position with a two-support leg. Figures 6 to 8 show different asymmetrical insertion positions of three support legs 5, 6, 7, so that it can be seen that due to the different insertion options of the support legs, it is possible to adapt the weapon support to the most varied ground and shot conditions.

An extension results from the fact that it is provided that the longitudinal axes of the blind holes 28 (compare FIG. 3b) have a different inclination to the horizontal than the longitudinal axes of the blind holes 23.

It is also clear from the illustrations in FIGS. 4 to 8 that excellent support of the weapon rest on the ground is ensured with respect to the direction of firing 28.

Hierdurch ist die Stahlspitze 17 in axialer Richtung fein verstellbar.FIG. 9 shows the base-side support of a support leg 7 with a steel tip 17 and an attached rubber foot 18. The steel tip 17 is arranged on a threaded bolt 19 which engages with its external thread in an assigned internal thread within the internal bore of the support leg 7. As a result, the steel tip 17 is finely adjustable in the axial direction.

In order to prevent the steel tip 17 from penetrating soft terrain, a conical disk 16 is pressed onto the steel tip 17.

The cone angle of the conical washer 16 is approximately 90 degrees, as is the tip angle of the rubber foot 18. The steel tip 17 has a collar of reduced diameter which engages in a circumferential rib within the rubber foot 18, so that this results in a snap connection.

At the same time, the steel tip 17 is preceded by a blind hole 37 within the rubber foot 18, so that when a shot is fired when a force is applied to the support leg 7 in the axial direction on the rubber foot, the tip 17 presses into the blind hole 37 and the rubber foot 18 expands radially . As a result, the base-side support surface 32 comes into contact with the floor and brakes a radial spreading of the support legs 5, 6, 7 on the floor. In the rest position, the bearing surface 32 is at a small angle 31, e.g. an angle of 5 degrees above the ground.

The angle 33 of the longitudinal axis of the support leg 5, 6, 7 in the direction of the horizontal is preferably 50 degrees. The rubber foot has a hardness of 60 to 80 Shore.

If necessary, the rubber foot 18 can be removed immediately.

It should also be pointed out that the thread 25, 35 within the central recess 30 is a 3/4 "gas pipe thread, so that the procurement of spare parts is very simple because such a thread and the associated central locks are easy to obtain. Instead of the given A 26x1.5 fine thread can also be provided.
