Description

The invention relates to a toothbrush with a generally cuboid-shaped brush head, the brush hairs of which are attached to a plate-shaped section of a support piece made of plastic, which is connected by means of a hinge-like joint to a generally rod-shaped or rod-shaped holding piece made of plastic, which is designed as a hollow body that is open on one side, and from a stop position into this holding piece can be pivoted, a recess being formed in the free edges of the side walls of the holding piece in the region of its end wall in such a way that the support piece can be gripped under in the position folded into the holding piece.

Such a collapsible toothbrush is known from US-A-13 78 044. With this toothbrush, the support piece with the brush head is folded into the holding piece. In the folded position, the cavity of the holding piece which receives the brush head is connected to the surroundings via an all-round open gap formed between the supporting piece and the side walls of the holding piece. This has the consequence that moisture accumulating in the holding piece with toothpaste residues e.g. can flow out of the brush head from the holding piece and contaminate the environment. This can only be prevented if the bulbous section of the holding piece assigned to the brush head is held or stored in such a way that the liquid collects in the lower region of the bulbous section. This is a considerable disadvantage, since when the toothbrush is transported in e.g. Luggage can not comply with the stated position of the folded toothbrush to prevent leakage of liquid. Another disadvantage of this toothbrush is that the holding piece and the support piece cannot be separated from one another without being destroyed. The holding piece and support piece are connected by a pin or bolt. If this is to be removed, damage to the side flanges of the holding piece that receive the bearings cannot be avoided. For this reason, this known toothbrush does not break down into the individual parts, with the result that cleaning of the holding piece and the supporting piece in the region of the joint can be carried out only with difficulty and incompletely. According to FR-A-15 75 958, another collapsible toothbrush is known, in which, when collapsed, the liquid on the brush is to be soaked up by a sponge on the bottom of the holding piece. This creates extremely aesthetic and practical disadvantages in use. Since toothpaste residues can also be added to the sponge, this toothbrush gives users an unsanitary impression.

The object of the invention is to form a collapsible toothbrush of the type mentioned in such a way that in the collapsed position the support piece for the brush head is sufficiently sealed to the holding piece, the supporting piece for cleaning the toothbrush being easily detachable from it and without damaging the holding piece after cleaning should be easily connectable to the holding piece again.

According to the invention, the object is achieved in that the support piece and the holding piece are designed as an injection molded part such that the joint piece and the side walls of the support piece bear against the inside of the side walls of the holding piece when the brush head is pivoted into the hollow body of the holding piece, and that they are used for storing the Bearing pins of the joint piece certain free end portions of the side walls of the holding piece are formed elastically.

As shown in Figures 1 to 4, the toothbrush 1 consists of a holding piece 7 and a support piece 5 with a brush head 3. The support piece 5 is pivotally connected to the holding piece 7 at the end portion facing away from the brush head 3 about a joint 6. The holding piece 7 is designed as a hollow body 9. When the support piece 5 is pivoted out of the hollow body, the toothbrush 1 is in its position of use. When not in use, the support piece 5 can be pivoted about the joint 6 into the hollow body 9, whereby the length of the toothbrush 1 is approximately halved.

The hollow body 9 consists of a base plate 10 on which two side walls 11, 12 and an end wall 13 are formed at right angles (FIG. 5). On the end sections 16, 17 of the side walls 11, 12 facing away from the end wall 13, an opening 18, 19 is formed, which serves as a bearing for the joint 6. The end section of the support piece 5 facing away from the brush head 3 is formed as a thickened joint piece 22, on each of which a bearing pin 20, 21 is arranged. These journals 20, 21 can be inserted into the openings 18, 19, which serve as bearings 15 for the journals 20, 21. On the surface of the support piece 5 facing away from the brushes, a shoulder is formed in the area of the joint piece 22, which can be brought into abutment against a stop 25 of the holding piece 7. The Front edge 24 of the base plate of the holding piece 7 is set back with respect to the openings 18, 19 and serves as a bellows 15 for the heel 23. The position of the heel 23 on the front edge 24 defines the position of use of the toothbrush 1, since in this case the support piece 5 is in one plane with the holding piece 7.

In order to be able to pivot the support piece 5 out of the holding piece 7, 7 recesses 28, 29 are formed in the free edges 26, 27 of the side walls 11, 12 in the region of the end walls 13 of the holding piece. The depth of the recess 28, 29 is dimensioned such that the support piece 5 can be gripped under in the position folded into the holding piece 7.

The toothbrush 1 is preferably designed as an injection molded part, since this enables production with narrow tolerances. This ensures that the joint piece 22 and the side edges 30, 31 of the support piece 5 rest against the side walls 11, 12 and the base plate 10 when the brush head 3 is pivoted into the hollow body 9. The hollow body 9 is thus largely closed, so that contamination of the area around the toothbrush 1 with pasty residues is prevented. If cleaning of the toothbrush 1 is required, the support piece 5 can easily be separated from the holding piece 7. For this purpose, it is only necessary to slightly bend one of the side walls 10, 11 in the region of the end sections 16, 17, so that the bearing journals 20, 21 can be removed from the openings 18, 19 by tilting the support piece 5.
