Abstract

The casings are made up of braided, twisted or perforated metal wires which, in comparison with natural or plastic casings, are less sensitive to external effects and exhibit high tensile strength and constant flexibility and tension. A string made in this way has a longer life and a quality in the ball game equal to say the least.

The invention relates to a string for stringing rackets for tennis and related games, such as badminton and squash.
Conventional ball racquets of this type are covered with gut or plastic strings. As experience shows, such strings are quite sensitive to external influences, in particular to heat and moisture, which manifests itself in the weakening of the tension or in the softening of the covering. Plastic and gut strings also have a short lifespan when subjected to greater stress, especially when professional players use the racket, because of the relatively low tensile strength, which tends to decrease under the above-mentioned external influences. Under certain circumstances, air of a certain nature can also have an unfavorable effect on material resistance, e.g. salty air in marine areas.
All these disadvantages can be avoided if the ball rackets are strung with a string which, according to the invention, consists of stranded, stranded or twisted metal wire. CrNi steel wire is particularly suitable for this.
Compared to that made of gut or plastic strings, a metal covering is far less sensitive to the effects of the weather, besides it has a higher tensile strength and is therefore more durable. It retains constant flexibility and resilience even under heavy use. A sufficiently high elasticity of the covering can also be achieved with the available wire materials. Finally, the metal covering rather cheaper to manufacture.
The use of stranded, stranded or twisted metal wire gives the covering a relatively rough surface, which makes it possible to hit the ball with a high twist effect. The surface structure can be changed by using different string constructions. There is therefore also the possibility of making the covering less easy to grip, for example in order to prevent the balls from wearing out too quickly. In this sense, it may also be advantageous to provide the metal wire with a plastic sheath.
Polyamid, in Frage. The string preferably has a core made of a material which is several times more elastic than the wire material, in order to increase the extensibility of the string. Plastic is the primary material for the soul, e.g. Polyamide, in question.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the string has a plastic core, the diameter of which is greater than the thickness of the metal wire and which is tightly wrapped with several round, parallel metal wires in the form of a multi-start coil spring. By choosing the ratio of diameters and the number of metal wires, the elasticity of the string can be changed within wide limits and adapted to the respective requirement. Similar elasticity values as for a conventional gut string can be achieved, for example, with a metal string of this type, the plastic core of which has a diameter of 0.7 mm and is wound with six steel wires, the diameter of which is 0.28 mm. With a larger number of metal wires running in parallel, there is a greater increase in the wire windings and thus a lower elasticity. - -
tat der Saite, d.h. die Bespannung eines Ballschlägers mit dieser Saite wird härter, und umgekehrt.did the string, i.e. stringing a ball racket with this string becomes harder, and vice versa.
Several round metal wires running in parallel can be replaced by a single rectangular metal wire with the same overall cross-section. The core of the string can also be tightly wrapped with one or more rectangular metal wires in the form of a single or multi-start coil spring.
With metal strings constructed in this way, there is also the possibility of achieving an internal pretension by imparting a mutual pretension to the metal wire windings lying against one another during manufacture.
