Definitions
- the invention relates to umbrellas or umbrellas of a sufficiently economical nature to be considered as a consumable product, used in emergency and which can be thrown away after use, or after a reduced number of uses, without this latter characteristic constituting in itself a limitation.
- the object of the invention is to eliminate the above drawbacks by making an umbrella in an extremely economical manner.
- the invention consists in making the umbrella corolla from a substantially rectangular blank made of sheet of paper or the like, preferably waterproofed, in which creases or fold lines alternately inward and outward are formed in parallel so as to delimit between them folds of constant width, except at each end an end rim of width less than that of a fold and in the center a central rectangular panel, preferably reinforced, of a width greater than double the width of a fold, all these folds being zigzag folded on either side of the central panel around the fold lines indicated, then the assembly being folded around a median transverse fold line with the two large rectangular faces outside so that the two halves of each end flange come to ap- p l iquer against each other to allow their assembly by gluing or welding; the corolla is then equipped with a handle constituted by a cardboard tube coming to assemble in a central opening of the sidewall, a slide constituted by a section of cardboard tube sliding outside the handle, with two articulations placed on this slide along an axis
- the umbrella corolla is made of paper, preferably waterproof, of sufficient stiffness to avoid the use of branches or whales.
- plain paper 120 g / m 2 coated with a layer of polyethylene of 30 g / m 2 on the outer face.
- a blank 1 comprising a substantially rectangular external outline as shown in FIG. 1.
- a central rectangular area 2 is preferably reinforced by laminating two sheets of the same thickness. This result can be obtained for example as illustrated in FIG. 2 using two sheets 1a and 1b, the ends 2 of which overlap over the width of the central zone, or even as shown in FIG. 3 using a single sheet 1 on which a narrow reinforcing sheet 2 is applied to the central area.
- the solution of fig. 2 facilitates folding on a machine while the solution of FIG. 3 facilitates the application, before or after manufacture of the umbrella, of a part 2 decorated or serving as an advertising medium at the same time as a reinforcement. In both cases, the following will continue to be designated by 1 the whole of the blank thus reinforced and by 2 the central panel.
- this blank 1 are made a number of creases or lines of parallel folds, including external fold lines 3, intended to allow the paper to be folded over on paper, and internal fold lines 4 intended to allow to fold over the polyethylene on polyethylene assembly as it clearly appears in fig. 4.
- fold lines 3 and 4 are not only parallel but equidistant and leave between them folds 5 of constant width and in even number, preferably eight, on each side of the central panel 2, with in addition an end flange 6 narrower in width, and of course the central panel 2 which, as seen in FIG. 4 is a width greater than twice the width of the folds 5.
- a central opening 7 In the center of the blank 1 is made a central opening 7 with preferably an additional reinforcement 8 constituted for example by a rectangular sheet of a resistant material, paper or canvas, which can advantageously be interposed between the two laminated thicknesses (2 and 2 Fig. 2 or 1 and 2 Fig. 3) constituting the central area 2.
- additional reinforcement 8 constituted for example by a rectangular sheet of a resistant material, paper or canvas, which can advantageously be interposed between the two laminated thicknesses (2 and 2 Fig. 2 or 1 and 2 Fig. 3) constituting the central area 2.
- perforations 9 and 10 are made at the locations indicated on.la Fig. 1.
- the assembly can easily be automatically folded on a stationery folding machine until the appearance shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, after which this assembly is itself folded around its center line 11 in such a way that the two halves of each flange 6 come to press against each other as shown in FIG. 6, the central zone 2 therefore being placed outside and folded into two large rectangular faces.
- This allows to assemble together on each side these two flange halves 6 by applying beforehand a special adhesive for polyethylene, or by welding.
- the handle 12 consisting of a cardboard tube extending to the reinforcement 8.
- a small section 13 of cardboard tube of the same diameter as the handle 12 is placed above the reinforcement 8, and a cylindrical dowel 14 of any material is half fitted into each of the tubes 12 and 13 passing through the perforation 7.
- the slider 15 is constituted by a section of cardboard tube whose internal diameter is substantially equal to the external diameter of the tube 12 for sliding with gentle friction on this one. At its base, this slide has two diametrically opposite orifices in which two articulation pieces 16 are placed, arranged along the same transverse axis 17.
- These articulation pieces 16 can in particular be constituted by plastic assembly pieces comprising an integral inner head and an outer counter head assembling on the previous one by elastic interlocking. Naturally, the inner head of each of the members 16 is trapped between the walls of the cardboard tubes 12 and 15.
- each of the fixing pieces 16 we just articulate on each of the fixing pieces 16, as it appears on fig. 7 and 11, the perforated end of a fin 18, preferably affecting the shape of a half-oval as shown in FIG. 9, and the other end of which is articulated in the perforations 9 by means of another plastic articulation piece 19 similar to 16 and passing through both the two thicknesses of paper from the flanges 6 laminated, and the two thicknesses of paper of the two neighboring folds 5, as well as the thickness of the fin 18 disposed between one of the edges and one of the neighboring folds as shown in FIG. 11.
- each of the fins 18 is flat and cut from a sufficiently rigid sheet of cardboard, preferably porcelain cardboard.
- each tab 20 there are also arranged between the slide 15 and the corolla 1 two rectangular tabs-20 constituted for example also of porcelain cardboard but with two transverse articulation grooves 21 and 22 allowing each tab to bend in Z as shown in fig. 8.
- the inner ends of the legs 20, that is to say located below the fold lines 21, have a perforation allowing it to be assembled on the same previous parts 16 before the resilient fitting of the corresponding head.
- the outer ends of the two legs 20, that is to say located beyond the lines 22, are fixed on the inner face of the rectangular panels 2, for example by means of two plastic parts with elastic interlocking of the previous type mounted in the preceding perforations 10 and in corresponding perforations of the tabs 20.
- the assembly of the two fins 18 and the two legs 20 thus constitute four articulation links playing the role of the usual forks of conventional umbrellas, but it should be noted that while the fins 18 pivot around the axis 17, c ' that is to say by sliding in their own plane, the tabs 20 pivot around the lines 21 and 22, that is to say perpendicular to the line 17, thereby deviating from their own plane.
- This allows the gradual spacing of the corolla to be carried out in four perpendicular directions, while however ensuring that, in the folded position of the umbrella, each of the two legs 20 takes up a plane configuration by being housed exactly between one of the fins 18 and the corresponding rectangular face 2 which both come to bear against it. This allows very flat folding of the entire umbrella, to a thickness which practically does not exceed the diameter of the slide 15.
- the opening of the umbrella is done as for a usual umbrella by sliding the slide from the base of the handle until it comes into abutment against the reinforcement piece 8.
- this position which corresponds to FIGS. 8 and 9
- the handle an additional part constituted by a section of tube 25, of the same diameter as the tube constituting the slide 16, with, fitted and glued around it, a section tube bit 26 of slightly larger diameter, a part of the tube 26 projecting from the upper end of the tube 25 being provided with two diametrically opposed rectangular notches 27 which allow the parts of the part 26 remaining between the notches 27 to come fit at the base of the tube 15 between the fins 18.
- the assembly thus constitutes a pusher ring allowing easier handling and further increasing the friction which keeps the slide 15 in the open position.
- this split ring can be replaced by 90 ° by being replaced as shown in FIG. 10, that is to say so that the base of the two large rectangular faces 2, comprising between them all the folds of the corolla, are inserted into the notches 27, thus ensuring the maintenance of the umbrella in position. closed for storage, transport and distribution.
- the layout of the initial blank 1 is not exactly rectangular but has a slight slope at the four angles as shown in FIG. 1, that is to say that the two pleated parts, on either side of the initial rectangular central zone 2, is substantially trapezoidal.
- the assembly of the corolla and the various accessories can be produced quickly and economically using the usual cardboard machines, and the assembly of the parts is extremely easy because of the small number of these parts.
- the assembly thus makes it possible to produce an extremely economical umbrella or parasol, while nevertheless allowing it to be folded and reused a certain number of times.
