Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a connector for cathode ray tube, mainly intended for color television receivers.
  • This type of connector is intended to ensure respectively the electrical connections between the different circuits connected to the printed circuit board and the elements included in the tube, cathodes for red, blue, green functions, grids 1 and 2, filaments 1 and 2.
  • the connector is constituted by a molded insulating part, in the general shape of a ring, inside which are arranged, insulated from each other by longitudinal grooves, or in cells, the conductive parts provided for be in contact with the tube pins.
  • the protection sought is obtained by means of spark gaps independent of the ring or provided directly in or on the printed circuit concerned.
  • the connector is constituted by a part forming a housing, in which are included both the contact parts and their corresponding spark gaps, suitably insulated and arranged so as to provide the required connections and the desired protection.
  • a connector is described in document DE-A-27 27 230.
  • the subject of the present invention is a connector with incorporated spark gaps constituting an improvement made to the connectors of the first type mentioned above, and the manufacture of which is simplified, the cost reduced and the bulk reduced compared to the connectors of the second type indicated above.
  • a belt is provided on the outer wall of the ring constituting the connector, including housings open at their two ends and intended to receive the different spark gaps and their common mass.
  • spark gaps can be of the type obtained by molding a continuous strip of a suitable conductive material, suitably perforated from which they are then mechanically and simultaneously detached. The necessary spacing, depending on the voltage, is made for each spark gap by cutting, simultaneously eliminating unnecessary parts of the strip.
  • the ring can also be provided at its periphery with a boss forming a housing provided for receiving the pin of the focusing grid G3 as well as the contact means intended to connect the latter to the corresponding supply circuit, this arrangement being possible when the pin of the grid G3 is sufficiently distant from the other nearest pins.
  • the reference 1 designates the body of the connector made of molded insulating material, generally in the form of an oblong ring, inside which the conductive parts are arranged in contact with the pins of the cathode-ray tube. These parts, known in themselves, are shown in FIG. 2.
  • Reference 2 designates a part molded around the ring and which includes the housing provided for the different spark gaps.
  • these are constituted in the following manner: the metal strip 3 integral with the different parts 4 connects to the ground the spark gaps proper constituted respectively by the free ends opposite the parts 4 and 5 (visible in FIG. 3 ) kept at the very short distance required by the overmolded insulating part 6.
  • the opposite end of the parts 5 is provided to penetrate the printed circuit connection board, through a hole provided for this purpose, and jointly with a contact piece ensuring the electrical connection with the corresponding pin of the cathode ray tube.
  • the reference 7 designates ribs which the part 2 is provided to form the different housings of the spark gaps.
  • Reference 8 designates an eccentric part of the ring intended to house a part corresponding eccentric of the base of the tube, the latter itself constituting housing for the focus connector.
  • the reference 9 designates an additional polarizing means of the ring relative to the base of the tube, further having the function of ensuring perfect isolation of the contact parts which are contiguous to it.
  • the reference 10 designates means for attaching the connector to the printed circuit connection card.
  • These attachment means in the form of a double harpoon, constitute a polarizing means intended to avoid any error during the positioning on the printed card.
  • they ensure the good behavior of the connector on the printed card during the soldering operation in the bath, or later, in the event of disassembly of the printed card with respect to the tube.
  • the means 10 are arranged on the eccentric part 8 of the ring 1, but they could of course be arranged at other points.
  • FIG. 3 represents an enlarged view, in profile, of the arrangement of a contact and of the associated spark gap forming part of the set of spark gaps set up simultaneously in their respective housings where they are held by snap-fastening.
  • the shapes adopted for the overmolded parts 6 surrounding the spark gaps are provided so that after fitting the spark gap, a sufficient seal is obtained to protect from the penetration of dust and, to a certain extent, runoff, without however, prevent the evacuation of the ozone released by the operation of the spark gap, for which small side vents are provided 11.
  • FIG. 3 represents in isolation, in section, in enlarged detail view, a contact part. and its associated spark gap.
  • Each piece 6 of insulating material molded onto the corresponding conductive part 4 forms in 6a and 6b respectively two projections relative to the housing which is intended for it in the belt 2 secured to the connector 1.
  • the installation is carried out by simultaneously inserting, in the direction of the arrow, the assembly constituted by the spark gaps.
  • the projection 6b forces the passage and comes to occupy the position shown in the figure.
  • each spark gap is immobilized in its housing where it is held in position, while the projection 6a forms a stop stop. It is obvious that one thus obtains by snap-in positioning and absolute maintenance in position.
  • the shape of the insulating parts 6 is designed to match those of the outer wall of the tube support connector 1 and that of the inner wall of the belt, respectively, the latter also having a slight taper in order to seal the surfaces in contact.
  • a connector is thus obtained making it possible to ensure all the connections required for such a tube, with maximum security.
  • FIGS. 4 and 5 the elements identical to those of FIGS. 1 and 3 have the same references as on the latter.
  • the reference 12 designates a contact means for one of the pins and its associated spark gap.
  • a perforated boss 21 in which is held in place a contact means such as a blade, penetrating through the end 22, while the pin connected to the grid G3 of the tube is inserted into this boss by the end 23.
  • the part 23 mechanically guides and in one direction the pin of the grid G3 in reaction with the force of application of the blade contact connecting the latter to the supply circuit.
  • the means of connection of the grid G3 to the supply circuit can either be a blade contact connected to the latter via a conductor with high insulation, with interposition of spark gap and independent resistors, as well as spark gap and resistance type connector incorporated.
