Definitions

  • washed textiles especially those made from cellulose fibers, have an unpleasant hardening after drying. This is particularly the case when the laundry is done in the washing machine.
  • This undesirable hardening of the handle can be eliminated by treating the textiles after washing in a rinsing bath with cationic substances which contain at least two long-chain aliphatic residues in the molecule.
  • the water-dispersible dialkyldimethylammonium salts have been introduced for this purpose.
  • these products have the disadvantage that the treated tissue becomes hydrophobic when overdosed and the rewettability is thereby delayed.
  • the invention thus relates to fabric softeners in the form of an aqueous solution or dispersion which comprise 3 to 15, preferably 4 to 7% by weight of one or more compounds of the formulas III where R, alkyl or alkenyl with 10-30 carbon atoms, preferably 8-14 carbon atoms, R 2 alkyl with 1-4 carbon atoms, preferably methyl, R 3 methyl or hydrogen and A is an anion such as Cl (-) , Br (-) , CH 3 OSO 3 (-) or (CH 3 O) 2 PO 2 (-) means 0.1-3, preferably 0.5-1.5% by weight of a glycerol ether derivative of the formula IV where R 4 can be alkyl or alkenyl having 4-20 carbon atoms, preferably 8-16 carbon atoms, cyclohexyl or aryl optionally substituted by al
  • the glycerol ether derivatives of the formula IV are known from DE-A 1 256 640 and GB-A 1 370 916.
  • This combination of compounds I and 111 with a compound of formula IV gives any textile materials, especially those made from natural or regenerated cellulose, wool, cellulose acetate, triacetate, polyamide, polyacrylonitrile, polyester, polypropylene, a pleasant and soft feel.
  • the use as a laundry aftertreatment for terry cloth and underwear made of cotton is particularly advantageous.
  • These fabric softeners are produced by simply mixing or dispersing the individual components in water.
  • These fabric softeners according to the invention can either contain only one compound of the formulas I to III or they contain a mixture of two or more compounds of these formulas I to III within the stated limits. If a mixture of two or more compounds of the formula I to III is present, their mixing ratio with one another is completely uncritical and can take on any value.
  • the fabric softener according to the invention can also contain other substances and auxiliaries which are either already mixed in the concentrate of the fabric softener or added separately to the ready-to-use, diluted fabric softener.
  • auxiliaries which have already been used in fabric softeners, e.g. cationic or nonionic surface-active substances, electrolytes, acidifying agents, organic complexing agents, optical brightening agents or solubilizers as well as colors and fragrances. They serve to additionally influence the handle of the goods or other properties of the textiles to be treated or to adjust the viscosity, to regulate the pH or to increase the stability at low temperatures.

Description

    Figure imgb0003
    Figure imgb0004

  • Figure imgb0008
