Claims (10)

1. Apparatus for cutting or shredding paper, cardboard, microfilms or the like, comprising a cutting device and a drive for the cutting device, characterised in that the driving element is in the form of an independent unit (1) adapted to be connected to a supporting structure (3) with waste bin (6) and comprising a driving motor (36), circuit control elements (14, 30) and driving pinions (12) driven by the driving motor (36), in that at least one cutting mechanism (8) having a particular width of cut, consisting of cutter blade rolls (45), driving gear wheel (11, 39) and stripper device (46) is provided as an independent unit which can be selectively suspended to the driving element (1) or exchanged, in that guide means (9, 15) and stop means (13, 22) are provided for an accurately predetermined connection between the driving element (1) and the cutting mechanism (8), the driving pinion (12) of the driving element (1) being in positive operative connection with the driving gear wheel (11) of the cutting mechanism (8) when the cutting mechanism is in the operative state.
2. Apparatus according to claim 1, characterised by cutting mechanisms with differing widths of cut which can be selectively connected to the driving unit (1).
3. Apparatus according to claim 1 or claim 2, characterised in that the driving unit (1) or the cutting mechanism (8) has pins (9, 15) which are designed to fit into corresponding guiding and centering apertures (9', 24) of the other of said elements.
4. Apparatus according to claim 1 or following claims, characterised in that the stop means are constructed as independently engaging locking pawls (13, 22) adapted to be released by hand.
5. Apparatus according to claim 1 or following claims, characterised in that the driving element (1) is connected with the supporting structure (3) by way of rubber bearings (4) and held in position by apertures (50) in the supporting framework.
6. Apparatus according to claim 1 or following claims, characterised in that the supporting framework (3) and the independent waste bin (6) can each be assembled from individual parts (51 to 57).
7. Apparatus according to claim 6, characterised in that the supporting framework (3) is in the form of a double-U-shaped frame (51, 52) whose upper opening serves to receive the driving element (1) and a cutting mechanism (8) while the waste bin (6) is adapted to be inserted in a form-locking manner (57') in the lower opening of the frame.
8. Apparatus according to claim 7, characterised in that an opening (7) which is left in the upper frame opening of the supporting structure (3) after insertion of the driving element (1) and attachment of a cutting mechanism (8) is adapted to be covered by a depositing plate (53, 59) which is adapted to be shifted or folded about a hinge (60).
9. Apparatus according to claim 1 or following claims, characterised by a depositing surface (64) adapted to be hinged to and/or lowered into the back of the supporting structure (3) and to be supported by a bracket (67) to receive endlessly folded paper (65), and a feed arm (66) for feeding the paper (65) into the cutting mechanism (8).
10. Apparatus according to claim 1 or following claims, characterised in that the stripper device (46) of the cutting mechanism (8) consists of four similar comb elements (68) arranged so that the core (70', 70") of each cutter blade roll (72) is completely surrounded by two of said four elements in such a manner that segments (71', 72") of equal size of the individual blades (77) of the blade roll (72) project from both sides, in that the comb elements (68) each have at their end face an attachment (74) with which they engage in a form locking manner in a corresponding aperture in a bearing plate (73) for the blade roll (72), and in that the ends (75) of the comb elements (68) are so formed that bearing sleeves (76) of the cutter blade rolls (72) arranged in the bearing plate (73) are held secure against rotation.
