Description

The invention relates to a continuous form, in particular for EDP printing units, with a first sheet, in which a transport perforation is provided on both edges, and which has a transverse perforation for folding and separating at certain intervals, and to which punches are attached.

Endless form sets are known which are suitable for use in labeling devices, in particular in those of EDP systems. These form sets each have a transport perforation on both edges, into which the transport spikes of the labeling device can engage. As a rule, such continuous form sets are provided with a transverse perforation at a distance of 12 ", through which a zigzag stacking and subsequent tearing off is possible after printing. With such form sets, the copies have the same format as the first sheet and have Such sets of forms have the disadvantage that they are not in DIN format and are difficult to tear off and take apart in the case of multiple copies. A further disadvantage of these continuous forms occurs in versions with many copies in that especially with labeling devices small EDP systems or so-called office computers whose transport spikes no longer, or at least not correctly, transport the outer edges, which are necessarily thick in the case of strong form sets, which contain the transport perforations Endless forms set in the narrow wrapping of the small devices to jam and displacement, which build up quickly and prevent the proper operation of the device.

It is therefore also known to use so-called carrier tape sets, in which individual sets, preferably in DIN format, are prefabricated and glued to an endless carrier tape with transport perforations underneath. In order to prevent such carrier tape sets from getting caught on their separating strip in the labeling device, it is provided that the individual sets are applied to a carrier tape in such a way that they overlap. This means that the carrier tape has a transverse perforation in half of its format and is folded over there. The carrier tape cannot be used for the printing process and must then be thrown away. Another disadvantage of the carrier tape set is that the individual set lying on top cannot be attached or held laterally and is therefore moved by a number of frequently used labeling device types as soon as the lower part of the set has to be labeled, so that the advantages of the carrier tape set are used is not possible in wide areas.

It is known from US Pat. No. 2,235,197 to design sets of forms in such a way that the perforations arranged on a carrier sheet can be separated uniformly by congruent perforations. However, the endless forms according to US Pat. No. 2,235,197 have the disadvantage that the uniform carrier tape cannot be brought down to the format of the copies.

A set of forms is known from CH-A-575 838 in which the desired format of individual sheets can be achieved by perforations. The bottom sheet is extended to the top sheet of the following set of forms. There is thus an alternating change between the bottom of the continuous form and the top where it ends. Such sets of forms have the disadvantage that they do not have a continuous carrier tape and are therefore more complex to manufacture and their use can lead to disruptions in paper transport due to the alternating change.

From DE-PS 2 544 670 a set of forms is known in which copy sets are arranged on a continuous carrier tape in such a way that a free field remains on the carrier tape between two copy records. The copy sets are arranged on the carrier tape in such a way that their separation perforation runs in the transport direction. As a result, there is a risk that exposed side edges of the form sets lead to faults in the printer area.

An endless form set is known from US Pat. No. 2,306,900, in which the transport perforation can be separated by a perforation, so that the sheets of this form set can be brought to a uniform width. However, this form set has the disadvantage that the individual forms, especially if there are a large number of forms stacked on top of one another, cannot be folded in a Z-shape, since all copies are arranged continuously over the entire length of the continuous form set.

To overcome this disadvantage, GB-PS 752 746 proposes to arrange the copies on a set of forms at a certain distance from one another. A disadvantage in the form sets described in GB-PS 752 746, however, is that the bottom carrier sheet cannot be divided into form sheets which correspond to the copy sheets with regard to the format.

The invention has for its object to avoid the disadvantages of the aforementioned endless forms and to create an endless form that is easy to fold in a Z-shape without individual sheets are stretched or compressed and in which all sheets after separation of the same width and that from the carrier tape resulting first sheet is slightly longer than the copy sheets. Furthermore, a first sheet with punctures is to be followed by a free first sheet on which no punctures are arranged and thus other tasks, preferably the creation of a detachable index card can be fed.

According to the invention, this is solved in a continuous form set according to the preamble of claim 1 by the characterizing part of claim 1.

The continuous form designed according to the invention has the advantages of both the known continuous form sets and the carrier tape sets, but avoids their disadvantages. With its help, DIN-formats can be made from any suitable endless paper format suitable for labeling devices such as EDP printers, automatic typewriters and the like. No additional carrier tape is required. The sentences are easily separable after labeling and there is no shifting of the punctures or jamming in the labeling device. The risk of material jam for sets with many copies is avoided because the copies are released at the end of the form. The transport spikes can work correctly because only the first sheet of the continuous form is used for transport. Another advantage of the continuous form designed according to the invention is that no additional, expensive stapling techniques have to be used, as is unavoidable in the conventional continuous form set, as soon as there is a need that all or some sheets have to remain together for the further use of the labeled form set.

According to an embodiment of the invention, for the production of A4 sets in portrait format, the first sheet has a width of approximately 240 mm and each has transverse perforations at a distance of approximately 12% and the additional perforation is at a distance of approximately 18 mm from the transverse perforation For the production of A4 sets in landscape format, the first sheet has a width of at least approximately 330 mm and each has transverse perforations at a distance of approximately 9 "and the additional perforation is arranged at a distance of approximately 18 mm from the transverse perforation. Any other format, in particular DIN A5 portrait format from 175 to 180 mm wide, or so-called sixth DIN (A4 shortened) from approximately 240 mm width can be produced in a corresponding manner.

The continuous form according to the invention is inserted into the labeling device in such a way that the carbon paper copies (if present) come to rest between the first sheet and the writing pad in the labeling device. As a result, the copies are pressed against the writing pad and can therefore neither jump open nor move; this also prevents jamming in the device.

In the case of EDP labeling of continuous forms, the need for so-called "direct intervention" very often arises, i.e. it is necessary to be able to remove a labeled form from the EDP printer immediately after its completion. For example, this is the case with delivery notes, invoices from repair shops, hospital forms and the like. However, this is opposed to the design peculiarities of many commercially available IT labeling devices, in which the transport device (tractor) is located so far in front of the printing unit that an entire form is used as a bridge in between. This means that an entire set of the form, consisting of the first sheet and copies, would have to be thrown away, which means an unnecessary and costly consumption of form paper.

For this reason, it is provided according to a special embodiment of the invention that the punctures are not arranged on each first sheet, but that there is a free first sheet between them, which is not provided with punctures. This free first sheet can be unlabeled or, according to an advantageous development of the invention, can also perform a function. One such function is to provide the first sheet with advertising messages. The perforation between the preceding first sheet with punctures and the free first sheet is then expediently formed such that only folding, but not simple tearing off, is possible.

The free first sheet can, however, also bear all or part of a label which is intended for entries which are to be made by hand. A transverse perforation enables a division into an advertising space and one or more form areas. The transverse perforation can also be used to form one or more index cards, such as those used in connection with hospital forms. The format of these index cards can be chosen by additional longitudinal perforations.

Further details and advantages of the invention can be found in the exemplary embodiments shown in the drawing.

In Fig. 1, the continuous form according to the invention consists of form sets I, 11, 111, ... each with a first sheet 1, which is provided on both sides with a longitudinal perforation 2. In this way, an edge strip 3 is formed, in which the perforation 4, which is usual for transport in labeling devices, is provided, into which the transport spikes of these devices can engage. By means of the perforation 2, these edge strips can be separated off after printing. The perforations 2 are applied in such a way that after the edge strips 3 have been separated off, the dimension desired in this direction, for example that of a DIN format, remains.

On the first sheet 1, a series of copies 6 and the necessary carbon papers 7 are arranged by means of a binding margin 5. The carbon papers 7 can be omitted if self-copying papers 6 are used. The copies 6 and possibly the carbon papers 7 are connected to one another in the binding edge 5, preferably glued to one another, and the binding edge 5 is in turn fixed to the first sheet 1, preferably glued on at points. The binding margin 5 is delimited by a perforation 8 which passes through all of the copies. The carbon papers 7 generally have no perforation, so that they remain on the binding edge 5 when it is torn off. The carbon papers 7 are therefore usually shorter at the lower end than the copies 6, so that they can also be pulled out with the binding edge 5 if the copies 6 are held at the lower end (left in the drawing).

According to the invention, the first sheet 1 is provided near its upper end (on the right in the drawing) with an additional perforation 9 which is aligned with the perforation 8 of the perforations 6. After the edge formed by this additional perforation 9 has been torn off, the first sheet 1 has the desired format, preferably DIN format.

The punches 6 glued onto the first sheet 1 by means of the binding edge 5 end at their lower end a few millimeters before the transverse perforation 10 of the first sheet. Through this transverse perforation 10, the successive sets I, II, III, ... can be separated from one another. In addition, the sets are folded around this perforation and are thereby stacked in a known manner in a zigzag fashion in such a way that similar pages, that is to say the first pages and the last copies of successive sets, lie one on top of the other.

In Fig. 1, separable by the transverse perforation 10, the first sheet 1 of the first set I connects to the first sheet 1 of the next set II and to this the first sheet of the set IIIan, etc.

The exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 2 shows an endless form in which the first sentence I, in which the first sheet 1 is provided with carbon copies 6, is followed by a free first sheet 1 'on which no carbon copies are arranged. In the embodiment shown, this first free sheet 1 'is provided with a transverse perforation 11, by means of which it is divided into a part 12, which is intended to be discarded, and a part 13, which can be used as an index card, by being on the in the drawing facing downward is provided with an imprint. By means of a longitudinal perforation 14 indicated by dash-dotted lines, two index cards of smaller format can also be produced.

The entire free first sheet 1 'can also be provided with an advertising print. Instead of the perforation 10 suitable for tearing off, a perforation which only enables folding but not simple tearing off can then be provided on the border to the preceding first sheet 1. The first free sheet 1 'is followed by the first sheet 1 of the next set 11 provided with punctures 6 and this is followed by a free first sheet 1', etc.
