Definitions
- the invention relates to a water-cooled internal combustion engine with a water cooler, which is connected via a supply and return line to the cooling circuit of the internal combustion engine and via a compensating line to a cooling water expansion tank.
- the invention is therefore based on the object in a water-cooled internal combustion engine of the above type to improve the cooling system so that no cooling water can escape from the cooling system in the event of a heat build-up, but in normal operation of the internal combustion engine the volume changes resulting from the heating of the cooling water without hindrance can be absorbed by the expansion tank.
- the object is achieved in that a backflow of cooling liquid from the water cooler into the expansion tank is arranged in the expansion tank or the expansion line completely or partially preventing valve.
- the improvement of the cooling system according to the invention has the advantage that, in the event of a sudden heat build-up, access to the expansion tank is blocked off by the valve, and thus escape of cooling liquid via the expansion tank into the open is prevented.
- Another advantage of the invention is that, despite the valve, the volume changes in the cooling water that result during normal operation of the internal combustion engine are regulated by the expansion tank.
- valve is designed as a spring-loaded check valve.
- valve can be controlled by the pressure of the liquid flowing into the expansion tank.
- the check valve is arranged in a valve chamber of the expansion tank.
- the check valve is spring-loaded into its blocking position and via a control device that can be actuated mechanically or electromagnetically on the expansion tank into the open position It is also possible to couple the control device with a cover provided on the expansion tank and closing the individual opening, the control device moving the check valve into the open position when the cover is removed from the individual opening.
- An advantageous and structurally simple arrangement of the check valve is finally characterized in that a tube is attached to the inside of the cover that extends into the connecting piece of the compensating line, the valve chamber with check valve in the part of the pipe lying within the connecting piece is arranged, which is connected via openings in the tube to the expansion line and the expansion tank.
- a water-cooled internal combustion engine 1 has cooling water channels, which are connected to one another via cooling water lines 2, for cooling the hot cylinder walls within the machine housing.
- the cooling water pipes 2 are connected to a water pump 3 which is driven by the internal combustion engine 1. From the water pump 3, the cooling water is conveyed out of the cooling water lines 2 via a flow line 4 into a water cooler 5 and from there through a return line 6 back into the cooling water channels.
- an expansion tank 7 is arranged in the vicinity of the internal combustion engine 1 and is connected to the water cooler 5 via an expansion line 8.
- the expansion tank 7 has the task of compensating for changes in volume of the cooling water when heating or cooling.
- the cooling system is filled with coolant via the expansion tank.
- one or more filling openings 9 are provided on the container, which are closed by covers 10.
- a ventilation line 11 of the internal combustion engine 1 and a further ventilation line 12 of the water cooler 5 are connected to the expansion tank 7.
- the backflow of expansion water from the cooling system via the compensating line 8 into the compensating tank 7 is controlled by a valve 13 - for example a check valve.
- the valve 13 acts in such a way that the supply of liquid from the container 7 via the compensating line 8 into the cooling system of the internal combustion engine 1 is always open, but in the event of a sudden and excessive heating of the cooling water - for example by a so-called thermal shock - the connection to the compensating container shut off and thus a backflow of expansion water from the cooling circuit into the expansion tank is impossible. It is prevented that a possible overheating of the internal combustion engine 1, a significant amount of cooling water can escape from the cooling system via the expansion tank 7 to the outside.
- valve 13 is controlled depending on the pressure of the liquid flowing back from the cooling system into the expansion tank 7.
- the valve 13 is designed so that at low flow rates of the cooling water, such as are present in normal operation of the internal combustion engine 1, the valve 13 keeps the connection between the expansion tank and the cooling system open in both directions, so that the expansion fluid can then escape from the cooling system in the expansion tank or vice versa.
- the valve 13 can also be arranged within the compensating line 8.
- valve 13 is arranged in the expansion tank 7 on the floor 15 in a special valve chamber 16.
- the valve chamber 16 is provided immediately behind the connecting piece 17 of the compensating line 8.
- a mechanical control device 18 is provided which is coupled to the cover 10 so that when the cover 10 is unscrewed from the container 7, the valve 13 is forcibly pushed into the open position, as shown in FIG. 3.
- Other control devices are also conceivable within the scope of the invention. 2 and 3 that the valve 13 is installed in a substantially horizontal position. For the control of the valve depending on the flow rate of the cooling water, however, it is more advantageous if the valve, as shown in FIGS. 4 to 7, is installed in a vertical position.
- valve 13 is provided in a tube 19 which is attached to the inside of the cover 10.
- the tube 19 opens with its front end 20 in an extension 21 of the bottom 15.
- Valve chamber 13 and valve chamber 22 housed in the front end 20 of the tube, which is connected via an opening 23 in the end face of the tube 10 to the connecting piece 17 of the compensating line 8.
- the front end 20 lies over a seal 24 on a shoulder 25 of the extension 21.
- the cooling water can thus only get into the expansion tank 7 via the connecting piece 17, the valve chamber 20 and the openings 26. 5 shows, the valve 13 is removed from the expansion tank when the cover 10 is removed, as shown in FIG.
- valve 13 is arranged in the connecting piece 17 of the diversion line Q.
- Fig. 6 shows the valve 13 in the blocking position. This position is controlled by the cooling water pushing back from the cooling system into the expansion tank.
- Fig. 7 the valve 13 is open. In this position, the cooling system can be filled with cooling water or expansion water can flow back into the expansion tank 7 during normal operation of the internal combustion engine 1.

Abstract
Description
Fig. 6 zeigt das Ventil 13 in Sperrstellung.
