Description
It is known that nitrosyl chloride can be reacted with aliphatic and cycloaliphatic hydrocarbons "(see USA patent 1923 630, Austrian patent 172618, Swiss patent 281 124," Research and Progress ", Vol. 24, 1948, p. 18 , and Journ. Organic Chemistry, Vol. 18, 1953, p. 115) To carry out this reaction, the hydrocarbons were saturated with nitrosyl chloride and active light was allowed to act on these solutions at an ordinary or moderately reduced temperature. and an oily product separates from which, in addition to chloronitrosyl compounds, ketones and other reaction products, oximes can also be isolated in poor yield. The preparation of cyclohexanone oxime cannot be carried out satisfactorily in this way Action of nitrosyl chloride ao on cyclohexane under the action of light in Ge genwart of diluents at temperatures from -25 to -30 · 0 and perform at ultra low Nitrosyichloridkonzentration. Despite these aggravating and uneconomical measures, it was only possible to achieve yields of up to about 70% of cyclohexanone oxime hydrochloride with a poor quantum yield. The person skilled in the art had to assume that cyclic hydrocarbons under technical conditions with nitrosyl
chlorid nicht mit befriedigender Ausbeute zu Oximhydrochloriden umsetzen ließen.chloride does not give a satisfactory yield to oxime hydrochlorides implemented.
Nothing was known about the behavior of cyclooctane towards nitrosyl chloride in the light. As cyclic compounds with "medium ring size" are known to behave differently in many respects than analogous compounds with a smaller or larger number of ring members. it is by no means to be foreseen whether one would get any appreciable amounts of cyclooctanone oxime from cyclooctane and nitrosyl chloride in the light. The experience of Naylor and Anderson (J. Organic Chemistry, Vol. 18, 1953, p. 118) in the reaction of cyclohexane with nitrosyl chloride, which only calculated at -25 0 and with the addition of benzene at most 56% of the nitrosyl chloride used could yield of cyclohexanone oxime during chlorine at higher temperatures increasing amounts of products zo emerged, leaving for the implementation of cyclo octane with nitrosylchloride even poorer yields of oxime expected.
Surprisingly, however, it has been found that cyclooctanone oxime or its hydro- «5 chloride is obtained in good yields if one uses cyclooctane reacts with nitrosyl chloride under the action of active light. The quantum yield is cheaper than with cyclohexane, and the reaction can already be carried out at ordinary temperature carry out.
You can z. B. nitrosyl chloride first, if necessary under pressure, dissolve in cyclooctane and then irradiate these solutions, whereby they are already a short time after the light has started : 35 cloudy and soon thereafter cyclooctanone oxime hydrochloride begin to deposit in crystallized form. But it is also possible to introduce the nitrosyl chloride during the reaction. These Working method is particularly recommended when the hydrochloride is continuously separated off according to its excretion and the cyclooctane im Circulation leads; it is not necessary that all of the nitrosyl chloride reacted before the filtration is.
The reaction of nitrosyl chloride with cyclooctane gives satisfactory yields even at normal temperature and even at temperatures up to + 40 0. The yields can be increased somewhat by lowering the reaction temperature, so that it can be advantageous to carry out the process at temperatures which can still be achieved industrially without too great a expense, that is in the range from about +20 to -15 ° . If you do not work below + 12 0 , you can use undiluted cyclooctane, since its melting point is reduced to this value by the reactants; at lower reaction temperatures, however, a diluent must be added in order to prevent the reaction mixture from solidifying. In principle, all solvents which are inert to the reactants are suitable as such, e.g. B. carbon tetrachloride, chloroform or benzene. The addition of diluents can also be advantageous when working at normal temperature in order to facilitate the separation and separation of the cyclooctanone oxime hydrochloride.
To convert to the free oxime, the oxime hydrochloride is dissolved e.g. B. in a little water and neutralizes the hydrogen chloride with alkaline substances such as sodium or potassium hydroxide, Alkali carbonates or ammonia. If you work carefully, the free oxime will immediately separate into crystallized form.
Mercury or other metal vapor lamps, electric arcs, fluorescent tubes, Light bulbs and also sunlight can be used.
A quartz or glass cooling vessel, open at the top and provided with an inlet and outlet, is inserted into a cylindrical stirred vessel 21 cm long and 9.5 cm clear width, to which a drain cock is attached at the bottom, and a mercury immersion lamp is inserted into this. Is filled in the reaction chamber 1 ι a cyclooctane, dissolved therein 15 g of nitrosyl chloride and the solution was irradiated for 3 hours under stirring and cooling at 15 the 0th Shortly after the start of exposure, cyclooctanone oxime hydrochloride begins to separate out in beautiful crystals. After completing the implementation, during which one of time. at time the crystals attached to the cooling vessel are scraped off with a scraper, the reaction product is suctioned off and washed with a little ether. 32 g of cyclooctanone oxime hydrochloride are obtained, corresponding to 79% of theory, calculated on the nitrosyl chloride used.
Solving the hydrochloride in a little water and the solution neutralized with cooling and good stirring with sodium hydroxide solution, the free Cyclooktanonoxim precipitates in nearly quantitative yield, which melts after washing and drying at 42 0th
A centrifugal pump is attached to the drain cock of the reaction vessel described in Example 1 Connected from glass, soft the reaction solution through a filter frit and from there returns to the reaction chamber. If one then gassed 1 l of cyclooctane in the course of 2 hours with 15 g of nitrosyl chloride, while the reaction mixture with a mercury immersion lamp irradiated and the exposure continues for 1 hour after the end of the gassing, and pumps During the reaction, the cyclooctane circulates through the filter, so 33 g of cyclooctanone oxime hydrochloride collect in the filter on, that's 81% of theory, calculated on nitrosyl chloride.
