umzusetzen. Die Umsetzung er-
folgt nach der _ ummengleichung
3 MeOR -I- 2 (B H3)2 -> 3 MeB H4 -I- B (0R)3.
Atomverhältnis Me : B : H = 1 : 2 : 8 entspricht.
2.Process for the production of alkaline earth borohydrides It is known that alkali borohydrides can be converted by solvent-free reaction of diborane with solid alkali metal alcoholate. The implementation follows after the sum equation
3 MeOR -I- 2 (B H3) 2 -> 3 MeB H4 -I- B (0R) 3.
In an attempt to obtain alkaline earth borohydrides from alkaline earth alcoholates and diborane in a similar way, it turned out that, for example, the methylates of the alkaline earth metals react only imperfectly at temperatures of 30 to 100 °, and in the case of barium not at all with diborane. The only addition compounds obtained are not precisely defined, the composition of which does not correspond to the required atomic ratio Me: B: H = 1: 2: 8. The ethylates react much more easily with diborane than the methylates at 7o to 8o °. The reaction products dissolve easily in water with little evolution of hydrogen, while vigorous evolution of hydrogen sets in when acid is added. The products obtained in this reaction, with a ratio of Me: B: H = i: 2: 6, do not yet correspond to the atomic ratio of an alkaline earth borohydride Me (B H4) 2.
3 Me ('0R)2 + 4 (B H3)2
-> 3 Me (B H4) 2 + 2 B (O R) 3.
Hierbei erhält man gegen Ende
Erdadkaliborhydrid in Form weißer Kristalle ausscheidet.
Even when attempting to carry out the reaction in diethyl ether as the solvent, no uniform products are obtained. Rather, the reaction proceeds only as: surface reaction and incomplete and leads to a mixture of unchanged alkaline earth alcoholate and alkaline earth borohydride formed. It has now been found that the reaction to the alkaline earth borohydride can be carried out if, according to the invention, the reaction is carried out in tetrahydrofuran as the solvent. The preferred procedure here is to slowly introduce diborane into a suspension of alkaline earth alcoholate in tetrahydrofuran which is boiling on a reflux condenser. The alcoholate goes into solution with the formation of borohydride according to the equation 3 Me ('0R) 2 + 4 (B H3) 2
-> 3 Me (B H4) 2 + 2 B (OR) 3.
After separating the solution from the unused alcoholate residue, the alkaline earth boron hydride can be removed from the clear. Obtain solution by distilling off the tetrahydrofuran, the boric acid ester formed and the dissolved diborane. Towards the end of the distillation, an oily solution is obtained from which tetrahydrofuran-containing earth adcaliborohydride precipitates in the form of white crystals. The alkaline earth borohydrides can also be precipitated from the tetrahydrofuran solution by adding paraffinic hydrocarbons, for example so-called petroleum ether. If about the same volume of petroleum ether is used as an additive to the tetrahydrofuran solution, the alkaline earth borohydride remains in the form of a di-tetrahydrofuranate after the adhering tetrahydrofuran has been completely removed by heating. This separation by precipitation is preferably only used in the production of calcium or strontium borohydride, since in the case of the barium salt, due to the poor solubility of the barium borohydride in tetrahydrofuran, the barium ethylate is converted into crystallized barium borohydride tetrahydrofuranate, so that the pure preparation of the compound is difficult.
Carrying out the process in tetrahydrofuran as the solvent
is particularly suitable for the production of borohydride from calcium or strontium ethylate,
while the methylates of the alkaline earth metals react much worse. the
Butylates, on the other hand, are almost as reactive as the ethylates.
