Description
The invention relates to a composite material made of pressed fibers or straws and a thermally hardening binder.
Such a composite material is known, for example, from DE-PS 2553968, which describes a process for producing such a composite material.
The plate-shaped composite material produced according to the above-mentioned prior art comprises straw which has been processed into particles, mixed with a thermosetting synthetic resin and pressed under a pressure of 80 to 650 kp/cm 2 (approx. 7840 to 63700 kPa) and under the influence of heat.
A panel-shaped composite material manufactured in the manner known from the above-mentioned state of the art does not have the dimensional stability that would make it suitable as a material for the construction industry, for example. The lack of dimensional stability is primarily due to the fact that the straws, due to their inherent stress, strive to return to the initial position they had before the pressing process, even after pressing. The natural wax layer on the surface of the individual straws supports this tendency, as it makes it difficult or even completely impossible for the individual straws to come into close contact with the binding agent surrounding them.
In addition, it was determined that the state-of-the-art residual moisture content of 8-10% has a negative effect on strength when producing larger panels.
5The object of the present invention is therefore to provide a composite material of the type specified above which is permanently dimensionally stable and can withstand high mechanical and thermal loads.
5
The task is solved by chipping the fibres or stalks.
A fibre or a stalk is shredded by tearing it lengthwise and reducing its surface tension.
The composite material according to the invention provides the construction industry with a composite material that is characterized by high compressive strength of up to 73550 kPa (750 kp/cm 2 ), good dimensional stability, abrasion resistance and buoyancy and excellent resistance to plant and animal pests. The composite material is also moisture-repellent and tropicalized, flame-retardant, self-extinguishing, impact-resistant, extremely sound- and heat-insulating depending on the bulk density, resistant to aggressive chemicals and acids, screw- and dowel-resistant, electrically non-conductive and does not emit toxic radiation, is age-resistant, non-carcinogenic, easy to dispose of and has a very good heat transfer coefficient.
Further advantageous developments are listed in subclaims 2 to 8.
According to claim 2, the volume distribution of 80-90 vol.% fibers or straws and 20-10 vol.% binder is particularly advantageous. The volume distribution according to the invention allows the specific weight of the composite material to be varied depending on the pressures used during pressing, as well as its insulating properties, without it losing its permanent dimensional stability. The composite material can therefore be used in a variety of ways.
According to claim 3, in addition to the fibers or straws and the binding agent, up to 8 vol.% calcium carbonate (chalk) can be added to the mixture before pressing. By adding calcium carbonate, binding agent is saved. It also serves as a filler additive for any pore spaces that may be present.
It is also advantageous according to claim 4 that the binding agent comprises synthetic resin, moisture-reacting hardener and accelerator. The binding agent reacts even at high humidity due to the hardener and the accelerator.
According to the manufacturing process known from DE-PS 2553968, pressing pressures between 80 and 650 kp/cm 2 (approx. 7840-63700 kPa) are used during production in order to produce the composite material according to the invention from the above-mentioned volume mixture of fibers or straws.
Even with a specific weight of 0.8 g/cm 3 , the composite material produced in this way has a compressive strength of approximately 68600 kPa (700 kp/cm 2 ). For most uses of the composite material, a specific weight of < 0.8 g/cm 3 is completely sufficient.
In contrast to the manufacturing process known from the above-mentioned publication, in the manufacture of the composite material according to the invention, a temperature of up to 130°C is only applied after pressing and not at the same time as pressing. This ensures that the wax on the surface of the stalks or fibers actually bonds with the synthetic resin, which is preferably used as a binding agent, and does not run or evaporate due to premature heating during the pressing process.
Mit dem erfindungsgemäßen Verbundwerkstoff können somit Dachpfannen und Dachwellplatten als Ersatz für herkömmlicheThe composite material according to the invention can thus be used to produce roof tiles and corrugated roof sheets as a replacement for conventional
Roof tiles can also be produced. Floor panels as a load-bearing substructure or as parquet with a sealed surface as well as wall panels for indoor and outdoor use and as facade protection can be produced using the composite material according to the invention.
The composite material according to the invention not only has excellent compressive strength, but also very good acoustic insulation properties due to its high volume fraction of shredded fibers or stalks and can therefore be used excellently as a soundproofing panel for soundproofing walls on highways or the like. Further possible applications for the composite material according to the invention are in the production of load-bearing ceiling panels with or without reinforcement, of storage and base panels for the construction industry, of shaped profiles and of panels for the furniture industry, such as for tables, benches and interior doors.
It is important that the composite material contains strained fibers or stalks whose surfaces have a wax layer, which then forms a bond with the binding agent, preferably a synthetic resin such as polyester, during the production of the composite material. The straining of the fibers or stalks causes them to lose the tendency to return to the initial position they had before pressing. The strained stalks or fibers interlock in the composite material and are cross-linked with one another by the binding agent via their surface wax layer. This net-like structure significantly increases the dimensional stability and breaking strength.
The term fibers or straws in connection with the composite material according to the invention is to be interpreted broadly and includes fibrous structures with a certain elasticity that have an artificial or natural wax layer on their surface. Fibers or straws of plant origin (natural fibers or straws) have a high resistance to external influences and are used to guide and direct the plant and cell
