So
Chemie, Bd.II, S. 129, bzw. Bd. IX, S. i 12) herzustellen.
Syntheses, Coll. Vol. I, S. 253 ff.
abzutrennen.Process for the preparation of orthocarboxylic acid esters For the preparation
Numerous processes have already been described for orthocarboxylic acid esters. So
it is known, for example, to ortlioacetic acid ester by heating trichloroethane
with sodium alcoholate to 100 to 120 ° and orthobenzoic acid ester by heating
Benzotrichloride with sodium ethylate to 10 ° (Beilstein, Handbook of Organic
Chemie, Vol. II, p. 129, or Vol. IX, p. I 12). A summary
the process for making orthoformic acid esters can be found in Organic
Syntheses, Coll. Vol. I, pp. 253 ff. The best practice there is implementation
described by sodium metal with a mixture of alcohol and chloroform, wherein
the yields 27 to 31% and when reusing the distilled chloroform-alcohol mixture
45% of theory. The low yields of orthocarboxylic acid esters that
obtained by the known processes are due to the low stability of the
resulting orthoester due to the reaction medium. There were
Therefore, ways were sought to shorten the reaction time and the reaction product quickly
to separate.
so,
It has now been found that esters of orthocarboxylic acids in simple
Manner and in high yields can be obtained if one is in a solution of

Yields increase considerably under these conditions, in the case of the methyl ester of orthoformic acid
for example up to 9214, with the corresponding ethyl ester to about 65% of theory.
3,2 kg einer 30%igen, methanolischen Natriummethylatlösung werden auf 30° vorgewärmt;
