Description

As is well known, applies in the case of fine machining special machining processes are used to produce metal surfaces of higher quality, such as grinding, lapping, etc. It has now been found that an improvement such machining surface treatment processes, such as reaming with reamers, Fine boring, honing, lapping, polishing, scraping and grinding, then can be achieved can if the workpiece before or during machining with a solution which chemically superficial layer-forming acts, is treated. To apply a such a layer are particularly suitable for iron surfaces, the burnishing, Phosphate and chromate processes, if necessary with the aid of cooling and Lubricants. In the case of aluminum and its alloys, this is for surface treatment known methods using alkaline chromate solutions suitable while in the case of zinc, for example, chromating the desired properties of the surface results. Under certain circumstances it can be an advantage not only to the workpiece, but also to treat the tool according to such a method.

It is already known in cold working processes such as Pull to avoid greases as lubricants, as their residues are left behind if cleaning is not thorough a subsequent phosphating for rust protection purposes interferes. For this reason should highly concentrated alkali phosphate solutions or highly concentrated Solutions of other inorganic salts of high water solubility are used, which have a sufficiently oily viscosity to be able to have a lubricating effect. Such highly viscous solutions are not suitable for the purposes of the invention.
