Anordnung mit variabler TransparenzArrangement with variable transparency
The innovation concerns an arrangement for buildings and vehicles according to the generic term of claim 1.
From DE-OS 38 07 598 an arrangement for glass or plastic panes, in particular for insulating glazing, which can be switched to transmission and/or reflection is known, in which a transparent substrate with a grid-like coating and a transparent pane with a corresponding grid-like coating are located opposite each other at the smallest possible distance, the grid bar elements of the coatings being opaque. With the help of piezo actuators acting on the edges, the pane and substrate can be moved against each other so that the grid bar elements of the two coatings are either in line or not in line, i.e. there is a gap. In the first case the arrangement is transparent (transmission), in the second case opaque (reflection). Even in the transmission position of the arrangement, part of the incident light is already reflected by the grid bar elements of the outer coating, so that the transparency is always considerably less than 100 1 . If the panes are to be completely darkened in the reflection position, the transparency is, for geometric reasons, at most about 50 1. The grid-like coatings are produced in such a way that they are first applied over the entire surface and then partially removed again.
The described arrangement acts as a light and glare protection integrated into a window element and is thus a kind of roller shutter replacement.
The reduced maximum transparency also reduces the amount of heat radiated into the room behind the window element, so that the room heats up less.

In summary, it can be said that the arrangement according to DE-OS 38 07 598 serves to reduce the maximum amount of light and heat radiated through a window element and, if required, to enable a further, targeted reduction of the amount of light and heat radiated at least approximately to the value "zero".
In contrast, the aim of the innovation is to enable the use of the incident sunlight in an arrangement of the type mentioned above for buildings and vehicles, in addition to the targeted variation of transparency.
This problem is solved by the feature characterized in claim 1.
By designing at least one grid-like layer on one of the two panes as a photovoltaic thin layer, the incident sunlight can be used effectively to generate electricity, which can be passed on directly to the relevant consumers or stored for later use. In buildings as well as vehicles, it is often a problem that solar energy is used in the wrong place or in the wrong form. Instead of heating up a room in an undesirable way, the innovation allows sunlight to be specifically "locked out" and even used for cooling (e.g. fan drive) via photovoltaic power generation.
Die Schutzansprüche 2 bis 9 enthalten bevorzugte Ausgestaltungen der Anordnung nach Anspruch 1.Claims 2 to 9 contain preferred embodiments of the arrangement according to claim 1.
Dabei zeigen in vereinfachter, nicht maßstäblicher Darstellung:The innovation is then explained in more detail using the drawings. These are simplified, not to scale representations:

Fig. 3 einen Teillängsschnitt durch ein Isolierglasfenster im Bereich des Verschiebemechanismus,Fig. 3 a partial longitudinal section through an insulating glass window in the area of the sliding mechanism,
The arrangement 1 according to Fig. 1 and 2 represents the simplest case for implementing the present innovation. Two flat, translucent panes 3 and 4 are arranged parallel at a short distance and are provided with grid-like coatings on their sides facing each other. The panes 3 and 4 are preferably made of glass, but both or one of the panes can also be made of plastic. Composite panes can also be used.
The outer pane 3, which is directly exposed to the light, is provided with a photovoltaically effective thin layer 8, preferably based on amorphous silicon, and the inner pane 4 with a color layer 9, preferably produced using screen printing technology. The thickness of these layers is shown greatly enlarged for clarity.
The thin layer 8 comprises - regularly alternating - transparent, i.e. free areas 10 of width x and opaque areas 12 of width t - x, where t is the pitch of the grid. The color layer 9 comprises transparent, i.e. free areas 11 of width y and opaque areas 13 of width t - y, where t in turn represents the pitch of the grid and is identical to that of the thin layer 8.
Da die Bereiche 11 breiter sind als die Bereiche 10, wird die maximale Transparenz derThe large number of transparent areas 10 shown in cross-section in Fig. 1 and 2 are designed as straight, parallel lines which extend at least largely over the entire depth of the arrangement 1. The same applies to the areas 11. Since the areas 11 are wider than the areas 10, the maximum transparency of the

Unter der Voraussetzung eines parallelen Linienrasters gilt:Arrangement 1 is determined by the geometric division of the thin film 8. Assuming a parallel line grid, the following applies:
Transparenz = &khgr; = Breite des transparenten Bereiches t Teilung des RastersTransparency = &khgr; = width of the transparent area t division of the grid
In the present case, the maximum transparency is about 15 X, which is a relatively low value. The advantage here is that the light-exposed area can be used well for photovoltaic purposes with only one photovoltaically effective layer. On the other hand, the low transparency causes the space behind the arrangement to become quite dark, which can also be desirable.
In order to enable complete darkening, the width of the opaque areas 13 of the color layer 9 must be at least as large as the width of the transparent areas 10 of the thin layer 8 (see Fig. 2).
Im vorliegenden Fall wurdeIn order not to limit the maximum transparency, the width of the opaque areas 13 of the color layer 9 must be no greater than the width of the opaque areas 12 of the thin layer 8. In practice, a width will be chosen for the areas 13 which lies between these limit values and which, on the one hand, enables complete darkening, and, on the other hand, leads to a certain insensitivity of the arrangement to small relative displacements and raster errors. In the present case,
y = iy = i
gewählt, das heißt, die transparenten Bereiche 11 und die undurchsichtigen Bereiche 13 der Farbschicht 9 sind - etwa - gleich breit.chosen, that is, the transparent areas 11 and the opaque areas 13 of the color layer 9 are - approximately - the same width.

The transition from maximum transparency to complete darkening and vice versa can be made gradually or continuously, with any intermediate position (partial darkening) being possible.
For geometric reasons, the maximum transparency that can be achieved with an arrangement in accordance with the innovation cannot be greater than approximately 50 1 , assuming that complete darkening is possible. In this case, the transparent and opaque areas of both panes are each of the same width and therefore have the same area (line grid).
As the maximum transparency increases, the electrical output of the arrangement naturally decreases, as the area used for photovoltaics becomes smaller. This disadvantage can be partially compensated for by providing the second, inner pane with a photovoltaically effective thin film instead of a colored layer. However, this second thin film only generates electricity when partially or completely darkened, as it is covered by the outer thin film grid in the "maximum transparency" position.
Provided that complete darkening is not required, maximum transparency values of over 50% can also be achieved. This is possible on the one hand through the geometric grid division, and on the other hand through the use of color and photovoltaic layers with a defined inherent transparency. All of these cases are understandable in themselves and are therefore not shown in the image.
In the practical design of a new arrangement, one will usually first specify the maximum transparency depending on the respective lighting and heat requirements. Depending on this, a decision will then be made about the type, number, structure, etc. of the thin layer(s) or the color layer.

With regard to the grid geometry, the previous explanations always assumed a parallel line grid.
It is also possible to arrange the transparent areas in the form of intersecting, straight or curved lines or in the form of many small, separate areas of a defined shape (e.g. squares, rectangles, diamonds, polygons, circles, ellipses). The transparency then corresponds to the ratio of the transparent area to the total area.
The visual impression of a grid is more unobtrusive and inconspicuous the finer its structure, i.e. its division. As the finer the effect, the impression of a uniformly tinted surface is created. However, increasing finer the effect also requires more precise coating methods, pane guides, adjustment mechanisms, etc.
In practice, with a parallel line grid, a pitch of approx. 2 mm should be fine enough to create a uniform optical impression.
The possible applications of the innovation in buildings and vehicles, for example in the roof area of motor vehicles, mean that in some cases the respective arrangement must be integrated into curved surfaces. In this case the arrangement itself is curved, i.e. it comprises at least two cylindrically or spherically curved, coated, concentrically arranged panes that can be pivoted relative to one another around an axis.
Regardless of whether the discs are flat or curved, for the sake of simplicity only one disc will usually be made movable. However, it is also conceivable to arrange both discs so that they are movable.
The distance between the two panes should be as small as possible for optical reasons. If the coatings are sufficiently abrasion-resistant, the panes can also be allowed to slide against each other while touching each other.

The adjustment movement can be carried out automatically or manually in steps or continuously.
The electrical energy generated is either fed directly to a consumer, e.g. a fan, or temporarily stored in batteries, although it can also be fed into the public power grid, if necessary via an inverter.
Herkömmliche Sonnenblenden bzw. Verdunkelungseinrichtungen können entfallen.Conventional sun visors or blackout devices can be omitted.
Figures 3 and 4 show the application of the innovation using the example of an insulated glass window for a building.
The insulating glass window 2 comprises an outer pane 5, an inner pane 7 and a window edge 16 that keeps the panes at a distance and hermetically seals the interior 17. According to the innovation, a further, vertically movable pane 6 is arranged in the interior 17, which is pressed slightly against the outer pane 5 by spring elements 23 in order to slide on it.
The outer pane 5 has a grid on its inside that is designed as a photovoltaically effective thin film, indicated at 14 in the form of horizontal, parallel lines. The movable pane 6 has a grid on its outside that is indicated at 15 and that can be designed as a color layer, i.e. as a pure aperture grid, or also as a photovoltaically effective thin film. The vertical division of the grids 14 and 15 is the same.
If the sliding wedges 22 are moved towards each other, this results in the pane 6 moving upwards. The force is transmitted to the sliding wedges 22 via two articulated rods 21, which are articulated towards the center of the pane on a common pivot lever 18. At the upper end of the pivot lever 18, a disk-shaped magnet 19 is attached, one end of which is a short distance from the pane 7. On the opposite, accessible side of the pane 7, another magnet 20 (or a ferromagnetic disk) is held in place by the magnetic attraction force, which can be moved by the operator. In this way, the force is transmitted from the operator to the sliding mechanism without contact and without affecting the hermetic seal of the interior 17 of the insulating glass window.
The position of the pivot lever 18 marked with the angle α in Fig. 3 corresponds to the uppermost position of the disk 6. A movement of the pivot lever 18 into the vertical position results in the disk 6 being lowered. The maximum displacement path of the disk 6 is expediently selected to be as large as half the grid division.
The vertical leg of the angle profile serves on the one hand to support the pivot lever axis, and on the other hand as a cover to optically cover the sliding mechanism.
The electrical connections of the photovoltaic layer(s) are led out through the window edge 16 and are also hermetically sealed, so that this is not expected to impair the insulating effect of the window.
