AnzeigesystemDisplay system
Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf ein Anzeigesystem. The invention relates to a display system.
Such display systems are used, for example, as indicator lights in the driver's cab of railway vehicles and are illuminated by emitting light sources when messages occur. In bright ambient light, such display systems are often difficult to see when a message is issued. To shield against direct sunlight, it is known to place cylindrical rings or tubes on the display systems, which shield the display field from direct sunlight. However, this restricts the field of view to such an extent that it may no longer be possible to see several messages at the same time. In addition, displays with emitting light sources have a relatively high light intensity so that they can still be seen even in brighter ambient light when they give a message. This makes such displays particularly annoying when viewed for long periods in the dark, as they have a high glare effect. In the past, indicator lights were therefore used, where the glare effect and thus also the display area could be reduced using manually operated, mechanical iris diaphragms.
The foil display system consists of the actual NCAP cell and a backed, optically dense reflector foil, which is printed with fluorescent pigments in the desired reporting color. The liquid crystal particles embedded in the polymer film of the NCAP cell absorb incident light when at rest. When an electric field is built up by applying a (reporting) voltage, the liquid crystal particles orient themselves so that the incident light can pass through the NCAP cell and, after being reflected by the reflector foil, into

der jeweiligen Fluoreszenz-Farbe reflektiert wird. Da dasof the respective fluorescence color. Since the
However, since the system works with incident light, it cannot be used in weaker lighting or in the dark. The NCAP cells known to date also require a relatively wide contact edge of the metal-coated contact surfaces, so that film display systems of this design could not be installed in smaller display systems, such as indicator lights.
The object of the present invention is to provide a display system that is effective both in bright ambient lighting, such as
direct sunlight, as well as in intermediate brightness, good
visible and can be perceived in the dark without glare.
This object is achieved according to the invention by the features of claim 1.
DerartigeThe display system according to the invention enables glare-free recognition of a message in the dark by means of backlighting. In addition, a device for achieving contrast, which is simultaneously connected to
the backlighting device is activated when a message occurs, even in bright ambient light and in
Intermediate brightness ensures good recognition of these messages. This means that, regardless of the ambient lighting,
reliable recognition of messages that occur. The display system according to the invention is therefore suitable for all applications in which very different lighting conditions can occur, even in frequent changes. Such
Areas of application include, for example, driver's cabs in subway vehicles.
In addition, the display system according to the invention offers the
Possibility to use this in any number and configuration in
to install a control and display panel.
Vorteilhafte Ausgestaltungen sind in den Ansprüchen 2 bis 9
beschrieben.Advantageous embodiments are set out in claims 2 to 9
described.
90 G 8 5 6 3 DE90 G 8 5 6 3 EN
In a display system according to claim 2, light-emitting diodes are provided as emitting light sources. This allows display systems in the colors red, orange, yellow and green to be realized. Alternatively, an electroluminescent film can also be provided as an emitting light source. Such a display system according to claim 4 is particularly well suited for displays in the colors white and blue.
When using light-emitting diodes, a design of the display system according to claim 6 is particularly advantageous. This then results in particularly uniform illumination of the display element.
In a display system according to claim 5, when a signaling voltage occurs, an electric field is built up in the NCAP cell, in which the liquid crystal particles orient themselves so that the incident light can pass through the NCAP cell and is reflected by the reflector foil. The optically dense reflector foil is provided with openings through which the light emitted by the rear light source passes when the signaling voltage is applied. Since the NCAP cell is switched to be optically permeable when the signaling voltage is applied, the emitted light passes through the NCAP cell and through the display element without significant losses. Depending on the illuminance of the ambient light, either the light intensity of the emitting light source or the reflection of the ambient light (incident light) predominates.
The invention and further advantageous embodiments, which are the subject of claims 2 to 9, are explained in more detail below using a schematically illustrated embodiment in the drawing.
Im Gehäuse 1 des Anzeigesystems ist eine Einrichtung 3 zur HinterleuchtungIn the drawing, 1 denotes a housing of a display system, in which a display element 2 is inserted, which, if necessary, can be provided with alphanumeric characters and symbols using labeling foils. In the housing 1 of the display system, a device 3 for backlighting is
90 G 8 5 6 9 DE90 G 8 5 6 9 EN
angeordnet. In the embodiment shown, this device 3 consists of two miniature light-emitting diodes 31 and 32, which are mounted on a common carrier 8 and can be controlled in a known manner by voltage via contact lugs 12.
The backlighting device 3 further comprises two reflectors 33 and 34, which are arranged on the inside of the housing 1 and are designed such that the light from the light-emitting diodes 31 and 32 is bundled in the direction of the display element 2.
Furthermore, a device 4 for achieving contrast is arranged in the housing 1 between the device 3 for backlighting and the display element 2. It comprises an NCAP cell Al, which can be contacted in a known manner via contact conductive rubber 42 and tension and contact clamps (not shown here) as well as via contact pins pressed into the housing 1. The NCAP cell 41 can be controlled with a signaling voltage via the contact pins and the contact conductive rubber 42. A reflector film 43 with openings 44 is mounted below the NCAP cell 41. The reflector film 43 is optically dense, so that the light incident through the NCAP cell, which is switched to be permeable, is almost completely reflected. The openings 44 in the reflector film 43 are necessary so that the display element 2 can be penetrated by the light emitted by the rear LEDs 31 and 32. The NCAP cell 41 is switched to be transparent to light due to the applied signaling voltage.
To even out the illumination of the display element 2, the backlighting device 3 includes an optically transparent diffuser film 35, which is arranged between the reflector film 43 and the light-emitting diodes 31 and 32.
Fototransistor) die Beleuchtungsstärke an der Oberfläche desThe light-emitting diodes 31 and 32 can be dimmed. To do this, the illuminance on the surface of the
