Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a device for illuminating pas Siver information displays according to DE-OS 33 14 323.
In such a known device for the illumination passi ver information displays, such as measuring devices or liquid crystal displays, the light is drawn over a wedge-shaped, Light guides arranged in front of the display on the front of the In formation display directed where it exits to the display and this evenly illuminated. There must also be at least one Light source to be arranged at one end of the light guide. Derar term solutions have the disadvantage that in addition to the light source Light guide is needed, especially for larger displays formats leads to a voluminous design. In addition, through these solutions the design options for information show restricted.
Furthermore, electroluminescence is a two-dimensional lighting element known films that are connected to an AC voltage of about 100 V, 1 kHz be connected and emit a yellowish light. The are like AC powder electroluminescent films not transparent so that it does not appear before an information display can be arranged. In addition, their lifespan for the ver inadequate in motor vehicles and they can also be left there do not use because of unfavorable climatic properties.
The aim of the present solution is to create a transparent template direction to illuminate the information display to create the allows very flat designs and thus the design options the information display, especially in the motor vehicle improved.
The device according to the invention with the characteristic features of claim 1 has the advantage that the transparent electrical luminescent layer as an alternating voltage thin layer together with the information display shows the structural dimensions of the entire An pointing device opposite a display with wedge-shaped light conductor with additional light source significantly reduced. Thereby larger display devices, especially liquid, can also be used crystal displays in the dashboard of motor vehicles without problems accommodate. The electroluminescent layer also has because their low thickness of only 800 nm high transparency, and at the same time as a lighting element when applying an AC voltage of about 100 V, 1 kHz a remarkable luminance and thus one good readability of the information displays. The emitted yellow light has a wavelength of 585 nm. Another advantage it can be seen that such electro applied to a carrier luminescent layers have a long service life and high resistance against climatic influences, so that they are suitable for the An suitable in motor vehicles. In addition, at the Informa tion displays through the use of electroluminescent layers improved the design options as lighting elements be so that they are for technical use with transparent Displays in the driver's primary field of vision are preferred are. The proposed solution can also be used for larger display units, or in the industry in which Office technology or in other areas of application inexpensively reali sieren.
The measures listed in the subclaims result advantageous developments and improvements in the patent pronounced 1 characteristics. So it is suggested the electro luminescent layer in a simple manner on a transparent plate to be applied behind the information display as a thin film. It is it is particularly useful to use a glass plate, the immediate bar is arranged behind the information display element. Used an LCD as an information display element, so it is for the Mon days particularly advantageous if the LCD with the glass plate and the Electroluminescent layer carried by a common frame becomes. A particularly low overall depth can be achieved that the electroluminescent layer immediately on the back an LCD is applied and so with the LCD an illuminated on pointing unit forms.
Es zeigenTwo embodiments of the invention are shown in the drawing represents and explained in more detail in the following description. It demonstrate
Fig. 1 eine LCD als Informationsanzeige mit einer Elektro lumineszenzschicht als Beleuchtungselement auf einer transparenten platte an der Rückseite der LCD und Fig. 1 shows an LCD as an information display with an electro luminescent layer as a lighting element on a transparent plate on the back of the LCD and
Fig. 2 is an LCD with a separate thereof electroluminescent layer.
In Fig. 1, an LCD is shown as a passive information display device 10. In the LCD, the known structure of which is not explained in more detail here, it can be both a transmissive liquid crystal display 11 with a polarizer on the back or a transflective liquid crystal display with a transflector on the back. The electrical connection 12 is also carried out in a known manner on one end face, and if necessary the driver circuit for the display elements of the LCD 11 can also be applied to the LCD in chip-on-glass technology. To illuminate the passive LCD, a transparent plate 13 made of glass is arranged on the back of the LCD, on which an electroluminescent layer 14 is applied. The electroluminescent layer 14 is brought up in a special process, an atom-layer epitaxy process as a thin film on the side facing the LCD 11 of the glass plate 13 . The electroluminescent layer 14 is connected here on an end face of the glass plate 13 by means of a push-on connector 15 . The other side of the electroluminescent layer 14 is controlled via a conductive transparent layer 17 as a continuous surface electrode which is applied to the side of the LCD facing away from the viewer 18 . In this case, the electronic components for the voltage supply of the electroluminescent layer 14 and the LCD 11 can be combined at a point arranged separately from the display device 10 . When an alternating voltage of for example 100 V and a frequency of 1 kHz, for example, the electroluminescent layer 14 is a uniform yellow-pending light having a wavelength of 585 nm from which the LCD is uniformly illuminated on its rear side. In the controlled areas of the LCD, this light reaches the eye of the observer 18 when the LCD is actuated negatively. If the voltage at the electroluminescent layer 14 is switched off, only the light falling on the display device 10 from the outside falls on the transflector of the LCD 11 .
For installation in motor vehicles or other devices, the LCD 11 is accommodated in a frame 16 together with the plate 13 and the electroluminescent layer 14 applied thereon.
In Fig. 2, as an additional embodiment, an LCD 20 is provided as an information display with a separate and thus interchangeable electroluminescent display 21 . The LCD 20 is designed as a transflective or transmissive liquid crystal display with a polerizer 22 or transflector on its rear side.
The electroluminescent display itself consists of two glass plates 23 , which are each with a conductive layer 24 , which serves to control the intermediate electroluminescent layer 25 , be layers. When a voltage of, for example, 100 V and, for example, 1 kHz is applied, the electroluminescent layer lights up with a wavelength whose maximum is 585 nm.
If the entire display area of the LCD can be illuminated, it is necessary to use continuous electrodes 24 and a continuous electroluminescent layer 25 . This also applies to an arrangement according to FIG. 1 and also according to FIG. 2. If only certain areas of the LCD are to be illuminated, it is expedient to free up the electronics, ie to only leave them there or to contact them where the electroluminescent layer should shine. On the one hand, this measure reduces power consumption, and on the other hand, an LCD in negative contrast does not generate any unnecessary, undesirable residual current emissions. A common support frame can also be provided for LCD and lighting.
Through the solution according to the invention, free-standing display devices are created in information displays according to FIG. 1 with a construction depth of approximately 4 mm and in information displays according to FIG suitable for use in motor vehicles in the driver's primary field of vision. For example, in the case of larger display devices, it may also be expedient to attach the electroluminescent layer only to a partial area of the information display on the rear.
