Die Erfindung betrifft eine Vorrichtung zum Beleuchten der Symbole für die Schaltstellungen des Betätigungsgliedes von Schalteinrichtungen, wobei sich unter einer Trägerplatte mit transparenten Schaltsymbolen eine Lichtquelle zum Durchleuchten der Schaltsymbole befindet. Solche Beleuchtungsvorrichtungen werden beispielsweise bei Kraftfahrzeugen mit Automatikgetriebe angewendet, um die an der Oberseite der Schaltkonsole angebrachten Symbole für die verschiedenen Schaltstellungen des Wählhebels der Schaltautomatik auch in der Dunkelheit erkennbar zu machen. Dazu ist in der Schaltxonsole eine Birne angeordnet, die alle transparent * usgebildeten Schaltsymbole gleichzeitig und gleichmäßig von unten her durchleuchtet. Bei der Nachtbeleuchtung erfolgt mit der separaten ortsfesten Lichtquelle über das Lichtleiterband die gemeinsame Grundausleuchtung aller Schaltsymbole und durch Einschalten von nur einer Glühwendel der mit dem Betätigungsglied verstellbaren Birne eine bei Dunkelheit beziehungsweije für die Nacht genügende verstärkte, individuelle Durchleuchtung des der eingestellten Schaltposition entsprechenden Schaltsymbols.
