Description
Method for generating a constant electric current Die Invention has a method and an associated arrangement for generating an electrical Current to the object, which, although it is usually only a few microamps, is a usable source of energy for special purposes because it lasts for a long time Periods of constant strength and tension constant flowing and because the Organs do not have any movable elements to produce it, regardless of their position work and are not subject to signs of wear or aging.
The novel process for generating a constant current exists in that the radiation energy of radioactive substances by conversion into light waves is used to excite photoelectric cells (from which the resulting Current decreases in a known manner, for example by current surges from a capacitor MAh to achieve). Since the processes that take place here are exclusively are physical in nature and given both the radioactive substance under the Half-life as well as the other means used any disturbing signs of aging are not subject to a homogeneous result practically over any period of time Electricity generation that is completely free of fluctuations and runs continuously. -As radioactive Substances come into consideration especially those that predominantly have an alpha emanation of high MV energy. Preparations of this type are used when extracting uranium in large quantities. They will expediently be chosen so that the number of pro Time unit of departing particles and the decay energy until reaching the Half-life remain constant. Substances, for example, have proven to be suitable from the uranium-radium series with medium half-life, that of soft gamma radiation Alpha emanation give off a decay energy of around 5 M V. This has the great advantage that the The light output is very homogeneous and therefore linearly dependent on it the voltage at the electrodes of the photocell or when the circuit is closed the amount of electricity remains constant.
Instead of such radioactive substances that are produced by soft gamma radiation essentially have alpha emanation, it would also be possible to use substances which mainly emit soft, high-energy quantum radiation. It can Radiation energy can be used so that both the corpuscular rays used as the accompanying quantum radiation to trigger luminous effects will.
It is particularly suitable to carry out the method according to the invention an arrangement in which a z. B: with a phosphorus substance coated luminescent screen is irradiated, its scintillations on one or more photoelectric cells are directed. The distance between active substance and Luminous screen is expediently chosen so that the decay energy of the particles is at least -3 M V on the luminescent screen. The luminescent screen gets the best attached so that the radiation particles either directly or after refraction through .. a reflector or prism can be collected on it. There is an advantage Screen made of a metal surface with a reflective surface, on which in sufficient Dense about a layer of certain finely powdered dielectric crystals such as Zinc sulfide is applied with little addition of metal ions. composition and density of the light carrier are to achieve the greatest luminosity on the type of used emanation to vote and - to choose so that, as already mentioned, except the corpuscular radiation, if possible, also the accompanying quantum radiation luminous effects achieved. The radioactive material can also be on a carrier made of a reflective Metal alloy can be attached.
If one proceeds in such a way that radioactive substances of predominantly soft, high-energy quantum radiation are used, it is advisable to proceed as follows: that quantum radiation is refracted by crystals and by interference in spectra which are collected on photocells. This collection of the generated Light waves can happen in any case, that one or more of the photocell upstream optical lenses.
In the drawing, the idea of the invention is based on a schematic. Embodiment explained. You can see one inside a protective jacket annular reflector 2, which has a layer of a radioactive on its end face Preparation 3 carries. The reflector can consist of a reflecting the quantum radiation Metal alloy or consist of a crystal prism. In the center of the slide 2, a converging lens 4 is arranged, which is coaxial with a photoelectric cell 5 lies.
The reflector 2 is followed by. curved end face a phosphor screen. 6 at.
The lines drawn in dashed lines in the drawing are interpreted how the Strahluti9 of the preparation 3 either directly or by reflection on Reflector 2 reaches the luminescent screen 6, while the front of the latter is outgoing Light waves are collected on the photoelectric cell 5 via the lens 4 and there generate a current that can be picked up via terminals 7, 8. There is expediently a substantial vacuum inside the protective jacket i in order to avoid losses to keep kinetic energy as a result of ionization as low as possible.
Arrangements of the type described or other can, for example used to drive or regulate timekeepers and thereby with electric or mechanical drive or transmission elements are connected. Also for The invention can advantageously be used to trigger periodic switching processes or the like will.
Details of the invention can also be different than in the drawing example realize. So instead of a single photocell several z. B. cells arranged in a plane and connected in parallel can be used.
An advantageous variation of the inventive concept consists in that one uses the light waves generated by the scintillations to the To excite the photocathode of a secondary electron multiplier. In particular, can this is done in such a way that the charging of the various impact electrodes of a multi-stage multiplier is carried out by the method and arrangement according to the invention.
It is finite within the scope of the inventive idea, the radiation energy radioactive substances without using a fluorescent screen as a permanent source for the To use generation of electrical energy. There are photocells that immediately respond to gamma rays. Even if only according to the state of the art If there are low current yields, this approach is in principle nevertheless just possible and can be further trained.
