Description
Device for generating an intense ion beam at very high speed. It is known that positive ions can be converted into neutral particles and these into negative ions, and vice versa, negative ions on the environment can be converted into positive ions via neutral particles. It is also known to emit ions at very high speeds by repeated post-acceleration. In the case of the known `` 'experiences, however, positive ions are assumed. These are accelerated and then recharged - they pass through an opposing field in an uncharged state as neutral particles, are then recharged to positive ions and accelerated again. In the known methods, this is done several times in succession. In this case, however, the intensity drops very sharply, since the charge reversal of the positive ions to neutral particles at high voltages only takes place with a very small yield. This is namely only about 0.1 0/0. The charge reversal from negative ions to neutral particles and the subsequent charge reversal to positive ions takes place with significantly greater yield.
Under favorable circumstances, the ratio of the number of positive ions to the number of negative ions is always Gröller, the shot into ion date at sufficiently high voltages, most of the Umladungsvorrichtung as positive ions proposed 1 5, ßt.
In the device according to the invention for generating an intense Ion beam very high speed, in which negative ions are released by charge reversal positive ions are urzetigt by an electric field on very accelerated at high speed, ultimately recharged to positive ions and as such again by an electrical charge 1) esclileuitiert and the Auffangvorriehtting therefore an ion duel is provided, the negative ions slower dity delivers.
The advantageous effect of the measure according to the invention is based that is, on the fact that inan vq-) n negative ions of low velocity emanate from which the likelihood of charging positive ions even after their acceleration at a very high speed, it is significantly greater than the vinlad probability positive ions have the same speed as negative ions. There are too Multipliers are known in which positive ions originating from the ion source are initially strongly accelerated, and then in addition to neutral particles also negative ions from these positive ions, which are therefore a considerable fraction the final velocity of the particles to be generated have been formed by charge reversal ,will. Au (li with these known facilities the reloading takes place from positive ions to negative ions at high speed. Since the reloading probability is significantly lower than at low speed, are the well-known Arrangements for generating an intense beam of very large positive ions In contrast to the device according to the invention, speed is not suitable. It is particularly useful to use the source of negative ions, e.g. 13. a device to recharge positive ions into negative ions, and to ground the collecting device and the I? lel, which is used to recharge the negative ions into positive ions; tro (le to bring it to a high potential compared to the two grounded electrodes. If the potential difference. between the electrode to reverse the negative ions in positive ions and the two grounded electrodes is the same). is the The acceleration experienced by the negative ions is just as great as the subsequent one Acceleration of the particles after their charge to positive ions. Same particles therefore run through the acceleration potential in this arrangement. so that they impinge on the interceptor with a finite energy that doubles that of yours corresponds to the applied acceleration voltage.
The arrangement according to the invention is characterized by a special feature atis simple structure, as there is only one single insulator for full Svaiinting Isolation of the electrode, in, Icr the l`ntla <lunä the negative to positive Ions takes place, is required by the feverish electrons.
The uni-charging of the negative ions into positive ions takes place either in a room of higher pressure or by preferably grazing impact on one Surface or through the passage through a film. If., The l-mladttng in a room with a higher pressure can be used to regulate the gas pressure The facilities required in this transhipment area also apply to the isolator mentioned above for very high voltage while being the source of negative ions low speed, the catcher as well as the vacuum vessel of the facility Ground potential.
The illustrations show a partially schematic representation Embodiment of the device according to the invention. The i generated positive ions enter the channel arranged at the end of the tube 16 2 and are there before entering the unloading darkness on your detour over neutral particles are partially recharged to negative ions of low speed. This low velocity beam of negative ions is driven by the between the Outlet opening 2 and the positive insulated from the housing by an insulator ii charged high voltage electrode 5 accelerates existing field. The ions fly through the channel 6 of this electrode into which e ias is introduced so that the pressure in channel 6 is higher than the rest of the space 3 of the device, since the pump connected to 8 ensures that that the pressure in space 3 is always as low as possible. In channel 6 of the high voltage electrode 5 the negative ions of higher speed are recharged to positive ions and again through the field prevailing between the electrode and the electrode g accelerated, so that they at very high speed in the catcher io hit the substance to be irradiated.
Fig.2 shows as a further embodiment a device for Charge reversal, which is to be used in place of the high-voltage electrode 5. To your electrode holder 17 the ring-shaped electrode 12 is attached, which carries a foil 13 in the middle, which is hit by the negative ions. When passing through this foil will be the ions are reloaded into positive ions and then just like in your first embodiment as such accelerated again.

Fig. 3 and d. show two different _ @ usführunhsforinen one high-? M suitable for reloading through grazing impacts voltage electrode. The annular body i_.1 and 15 are shaped so that a perfect as possible Charge reversal of the incoming negative ions into positive ions occurs.
