Description
Production of coarse-grained metal powders during the thermal decomposition of 'Metallcarl> onvIen, z. B. from Eisencarbonvl and N ickelcarbonvl. In a heated room one has hitherto obtained metal pubs, the particle size of which was predominantly less than 7 to 9, tc. Occasionally these powders also contained particles up to about 10 u. For most uses, e.g. 13. For the production of nickel powder for powder metallurgical purposes or of iron powder for the production of high frequency mass keys, the # it very fine powder is very desirable. For some purposes, however, e.g. B. for the production of "I? Ia # npulvcr with high permeability, Iren (*)" one needs a metal powder with a larger particle size.
It has now been found that metal carbonyls are used to produce coarser metal powders, which at least to a certain extent consist of particles of at least io u, can be obtained by measuring the throughput of metal carbonyl vapors per unit of time because of the heated room selects smaller than the one with your metal powder : arises with smaller particles. It has been shown in a surprising way that with this reduction in throughput and with essentially the same Decomposition temperature as earlier that in decomposition. gsratim existing Carbonyl particles tend to adhere to the metal nuclei that are present to decompose as new germs form. The wall temperature of the heated room may be slightly lower in the present process than in the one that has been used since higher throughput, at which, as mentioned, particles with a predominant size of less than 7 to 9, cc arise. In general, however, should be on the wall in the vicinity of the entry of the metal carbonyl vapors temperatures of 300 ° are undercut. If you keep these conditions, you step on the wall itself '' no metal separation that can lead to unpleasant operational disruptions .. It is also useful to measure the wall temperature of the heated room in the zone of the To keep entry of the carbonyl vapor lower than in the other parts of the Space, especially in the parts in which there is no longer any decomposed carbonyl is located. In the case of decomposers with a considerable clearance, wall temperatures are between 5oo and 6oo ° still acceptable. At even higher temperatures it is necessary to achieve coarser particles such a small carbonyl throughput required that the economy is in question.
It is particularly advantageous to use an externally heated, cylindrical container whose diameter is less than im, but whose length is at least 5 d11. The diameter can be chosen to be smaller and the length to be larger, the more precisely the wall temperature is kept at around 300 to 400 °. In such an apparatus it is easier to remove coarse particles, e.g. B. those of more than 20 11 to be obtained than in a short, wide container with a higher wall temperature.
B. mittels eingebauter Heizvorrichtungen. To facilitate the supply of heat one can use part of the heat instead through the wall also directly into the interior of the decomposition space introduce, e.g. B. by introducing heated gases such as carbon dioxide, or by others "'Ärnieduellen, z. B. by means of built-in heating devices.
It can also be useful in the decomposition room in which metal powder is already in place, and carbonyl vapor in one or more places to be introduced so that these carbonyl mer_gen also adhere to the existing, floating ones ? Metal particles decompose and the particles grow as a result.
The procedure can take place not only under ordinary pressure, but also carried out under reduced or increased pressure; especially through increase the pressure facilitates the formation of larger particles. This is usually sufficient even a low overpressure, e.g. B. 2 atmospheres.
B. Kobaltcarbonylwasserstoff, an@@e»dl@ar.In general, the carbonyl vapor is used in its undiluted state, but it can also be diluted with gases or vapors and introduced into the decomposition room, especially if the decomposition is carried out at a relatively low temperature undertakes. The procedure is applicable to both simple metal carbon and iron. Nickel-.
