Description
Process for the production of cis-cis-muconic acid and its homologues It is known that oxidation of monohydric and dihydric phenols with peracetic acid receives cis-cis-muconic acid in low yield. In particular, it is cis-cis muconic acid by oxidation of the o-quinone, which was obtained from pyrocatechol with silver oxide, obtained with peracetic acid in about 10% yield. The o-quinone was there in the red form, and the reaction temperatures used were 0 ° and more.
In contrast, it has now been found that the yield of cis-cis-muconic acid can be reduced extraordinary in the oxidation of catechol, e.g. B. up to 85 ° / 0, increase can, if the reaction temperature is kept below 0 ', preferably below - 10 °. It has been found that in an oxidation process conducted in this way as an intermediate product the leuco form of o-quinone occurs, which alone is capable of further reaction. It is used in the oxidation of pyrocatechol with organic peracids and oxygen carriers Formed preferentially at low temperatures. You can also get them from the red form of the o-quinone or its derivatives if obtained by maintaining low temperatures the equilibrium between the two forms is shifted in favor of the leuco form. An almost quantitative conversion of the red o-quinone can be achieved by that the reactive leuco form which is constantly forming due to the equilibrium is removed by reaction. By measuring the rate of rearrangement between the red and the leuco form of o-quinone could be proven that the oxidation to cis-cis-muconic acid both by means of peracetic acid and by means of Hydrogen peroxide or exclusively by means of oxygen activated by palladium black goes over the leuco form.
(i, 2-Äthylenoxyd- i, 2-Äthylenperoxydcyclohexadien-3, 5.) The leuco form of o-quinone or its derivatives, either by oxidation of catechol or by rearrangement of the red o-quinone is now obtained by oxidizing agents such as organic ones Per acids, nitrous gases, Atmospheric oxygen, activated. Oxygen, ozon and the like, with or without application of metals mainly from the 1st, 5th and B groups of the Periodic Table oxidized. First a peroxide-like body arises, that of the body C-C bridge `carries both an ethylene peroxide and an ethylene oxide bridge. (i, 2-Äthylenoxyd- i, 2-Äthylenperoxydcyclohexadien-3, 5.) In the presence of water the ethylene oxide bridge is immediately hydrolyzed with intermediate formation of the corresponding one Diol, which still carries the peroxide bridge and then immediately ruptures the ring rearranged into cis-cis muconic acid or its derivatives. At temperatures above o ° Lactonization occurs primarily.
When the reaction is carried out in the presence of excess acid, the Above-mentioned peroxidic body via the Dinl the corresponding monoester. So you get z. G. in present. of acetic acid, the monoacetate, or in the case of excess Peracetic acid the i-hydroxyl-i, 2-peroxy-2-peracetylcyclohexadiene- (3, 5) (colorless Needles or platelets, decomposition point constant i12 °).
These esters can be obtained separately and by splitting with hydrolyzing substances, e.g. B. water, with the addition of iron (2) sulfate or hydrous organic solvents in cis-cis-muconic acid or its derivatives convict. At temperatures above 0 ° you mainly get the lactones.
Als Nebenprodukt entsteht vornehmlich i-Hydroxyl-i, 2-peroxy-2-peracetylcyclohexadien-(3,5). _ Beispiel 2 .Instead of the phenols, derivatives of the same, e.g. B. chlorophenols, are subjected to oxidation. The corresponding derivatives of muconic acid are then obtained, e.g. B. chloromuconic acid. Example i ii g of catechol are .und in a mixture of 25 cc of glacial acetic acid. Dissolve 25 cc of ethyl ether, cool to - 15 to - 25 ' and slowly add 20 to 25 g of 96% peracetic acid, dissolved in 25 cc of glacial acetic acid and 25 cc of ether. The mixture is kept at -15 ° for about 5 to 6 hours and then allowed to warm to room temperature. The muconic acid which separates out is filtered off and the mother liquor is concentrated in vacuo to achieve further crystallizations. To purify the muconic acid, the intermediate oxidation products formed are separated off by extraction with hot chloroform. The yield of cis-cis-muconic acid (mp = 186 °) is up to 85 ° / 0. I-Hydroxyl-1,2-peroxy-2-peracetylcyclohexadiene- (3,5) is primarily formed as a by-product. If the oxidation is carried out at more than 5 ° in a water-containing solution, mucolactonic acid can be obtained in a yield of up to 80%. _ Example 2.
Die rohe Muconsäure wird durch Waschen mit heißem Chloroform vorgereinigt und aus Wasser umkristallisiert.2.5 g of pyrocatechol are dissolved in 14 ccm of strongly cooled concentrated peracetic acid, cooled to -20 'and the intermediate product which has crystallized out is quickly filtered off. Further crystallizations can be obtained from the mother liquor by dilution with water and cooling. The products are recrystallized from chloroform, if appropriate with the addition of benzene. The yield is about 50% of the i-hydroxyl-i, 2-peroxy-2-peracetylcyclohexadiene- (3,5) of the following structure: The remaining mother liquor is concentrated in vacuo until the muconic acid crystallizes. The crude muconic acid is prepurified by washing with hot chloroform and recrystallized from water.
Example 3 2 g of o-quinone are dissolved in 10 cc of glacial acetic acid and treated in the cold with about 7 cc of 30 % perhydrol or dilute hydrogen peroxide and small amounts of platinum or palladium black. After removing the solvent, the muconic acid is made to crystallize. Yield about 1.6 g. Example 4 II g of catechol are dissolved in 100 cc of absolute alcohol and treated with weakly ozonated air at temperatures below -10 °. After evaporation of the solvent in vacuo, 6.59 = 46% of muconic acid is obtained and, as a by-product, oxalic acid and traces of aldehydes of the acids.
