Patentirt im Deutschen Reiche vom 25. August 1894 ab. Längste Dauer: 25. Oktober 1903.Patented in the German Empire on August 25, 1894. Longest duration: October 25, 1903.
It has been found to dye hair and feathers instead of those in the patent No. 51073 (addition to patent No. 4734g) p-Amidophcnols also some of its derivatives can be used.

nämlich die Mono- und Dimethyl- (Aethyl-) Derivate des p-Amidophenols und seiner Homologen. namely the mono- and dimethyl (ethyl) derivatives of p-amidophenol and its homologues.
Furthermore, the entry of a further amido group into the molecule of the p-Amidophenol does not change the coloring power, only the shade.
Praktisch verwerthbare Resultate mit Verbindungen der beschriebenen Art haben bisher ergeben:Practically usable results with compounds of the type described have so far result:
a) das Methyl-p-Amidophenol von der chemischen Constitutiona) the methyl-p-amidophenol from the chemical Constitution
CnH4-OH-NHCH, (. :4),
whose sulfuric acid salt is called "Metol" in the trade; the free base crystallizes from water in fine white needles which melt at 83 ° with browning;
H 3 • OH • N H. 2 • NH 2 (1: 2: 4); only the salts of this base are stable; the sulfuric acid salt is known in the trade as "Amidol". The free base, which is easily soluble in water and extremely easily soluble in air, has so far not been able to be isolated in its pure state (see Beilstcin, Handb. D. Organ. Chcm., 2nd AuI., Vol. II , P. 467); however, this substance is characterized by two distinctive color reactions. A dilute solution of the sulfuric acid salt turns blood red with a drop of ferric chloride (the same color is obtained when warming with dilute nitric acid); on the other hand, the aqueous solution, mixed with a little sodium hydroxide solution, turns an intense blue in the air.
The Metol and Amidol show to an excellent degree the property of being alkaline Solution to really dye fur in the cold, and these bases are so easily oxidized, that the oxygen in the air is sufficient to develop the color, and hence the additive a special oxidizing agent is not necessary.
Beispiel 1. 200 g schwefelsaures Methylp-amidophenol (Metol) werden in 5 1 WasserExample 1. 200 g of methyl p-amidophenol sulfuric acid (Metol) are in 5 l of water
(z. Auflage, ausgegeben am 29. Dezember i8g6.) (For the edition, issued on December 29th , i8g6.)
Beispiel 2. Wird das Metol in Beispiel 1. durch die gleiche Gewichtsmenge schwefelsaures Diamidophenol (Amidol) ersetzt, so färbt sich das mit der Lösung durchna'fste Pelzwerk rothbraun.of 30 ° C., the solution is mixed with 200 ecm ammonia solution of 25 pCt. offset. The fur to be dyed (e.g. rabbit fur, mountain hare, muskrat, opossum, angora) is soaked in this liquid and then exposed to oxidation by atmospheric oxygen. After 24 hours it will turn brown dyed fur washed out and dried. Example 2. If the Metol in Example 1. replaced by the same weight of sulfuric acid diamidophenol (amidol), see above the fur soaked with the solution turns red-brown.
