Description

Drilling oil emulsion Drilling oils usually consist of mineral oils with a considerable amount Amount of soap that acts as an emulsifier. The general procedure is followed in preparation so; that you first have a suitable amount of a fatty acid in a corresponding Amount of mineral oil - dissolves, after which, with heating and constant stirring, those in the mineral oil dissolved fatty acid is slowly neutralized with potassium hydroxide solution Drilling oils usually consist of 60 to 65% mineral oil, 20 to 25% of a potash soap and some water that got into the drilling oil with the potassium hydroxide solution. You can find in the metal processing industry as cooling and cutting fluids for drilling, milling, Planing, cutting and similar uses, but always in a diluted state with water. Such a drilling oil emulsion usually contains up to 15 parts per part of drilling oil Water. There is a dilution beyond this ratio because of the danger corrosion or rusting of the machined metal parts is not possible, although also an even lower oil content of the emulsion Editing of the -Metal would not interfere, one has in practice long after an additive wanted that a larger amount. ÜI II allows to save -and at the same time the protects machined metal parts from rust.

This effect was finally achieved by adding alkali nitrites to drilling oil emulsions in an amount of up to 0.5%. This addition has a protective effect against rust and offers significant savings, but has the disadvantage that the stability of the emulsions suffers such that, for example, even with the addition of 0.03% sodium nitrite, a noticeable separation of the emulsion within a few days occurs, while the addition of 0.3% sodium nitrite causes a very strong creaming of the emulsion. `This property of 'atriumnitritzu- f set is undesirable in practice, the -da 01 uniformly left in the drilling oil emulsions Fein Y. need to have a good Slidably - t riding needs.

It has now been found that water-soluble alkali silicates can be added the demixing of the drilling oil emulsions caused by the addition of Nitrite come to an end 'Prevents, so that in the presence of water-soluble alkali silicates even an addition of nitrite to a drilling oil emulsion of up to 20% is possible. This does not require just one far better rust protection, but also allows even greater savings Quantities of oil than is possible with the addition of nitrite alone. Furthermore, the Alkali silicate additive a nitrite additive to drilling oils that are already corrosive, for example those that contain -sulfur -containing -organic compounds, in sufficient quantity, without fear of vain loss of the emulsion needs.

.11s wasserlösliche Alkalisilicate sind ii. a. Wassergläser aller Art, z. B. solche, in detteii das Verhältnis Na.,O: Si0. i :2 oder i :3.33 beträgt, und Natriuminetasilicat verwendbar. Ein Bohröl der Zusammensetzung 13(;,() Wasser, 6.1% IlineraIöl (leichtes 'Maschinen-Öl', 230% Schmierseife wird mit Leitungswasser ini Verhältnis i :.I0 verdünnt, worauf ditser -I?niulsion- o,i-..% einer Mischung aus 35 Gewichtsteilen Nätriumnitrit und 65 tse-.wichtsteilen Natriummetasilicat der Zusamsetzung Na., Si O;. - g H., O zugesetzt werden..11s water-soluble alkali silicates are ii. a. Water glasses all Kind, e.g. B. those, in detteii the ratio Na., O: Si0. i: 2 or i: 3.33, and sodium etasilicate are usable. '- Examples - -i. This small addition of the nitrite-silicate mixture is sufficient to very rust-sensitive gray cast iron plates machined in the presence of the above drilling oil emulsion to protect against rust.

--. '-. Drilling oil of the composition given in Example i is mixed with Tap water diluted in the ratio i: 6o and. -with 3% of that given in example i N Sodium nitrite-sodium metasilicate mixture added. Even in this dilution- The addition of nitrite alkali silicate causes complete rust protection on processed sensitive ones Gray cast iron parts with complete emulsion resistance at the same time. -.
