Wasserglas bestimmten Beschränkungen unterliegt. Die Wasserfestigkeit eines Formlings bedingt die Zumischung einer bestimmten Acetatmenge zum Wasserglas. Nimmt man eine Lösung des Acetats über 3 %, so besteht die Gefahr einer zu raschen . Gelbildung. Diese Gefahr und eine erschwerte Verarbeitung werden auch bei hochprozentigen Acetatlösungen beseitigt, wenn dem Wasserglas außer der erwünschten hochprozentigen Acetatlösung auch ein Metallfluorid beigemischt wird. Es ist bekannt, daß der Zusatz von Fluoriden zu Wasserglasmassen zur Bindung, Härtung und Säurefestigkeit führt.
