The improvements to the drive mechanism in bicycles which are the subject of this invention form, consist mainly in the fact that the previous connection between the Crooked pin axis and the drive wheel axis by means of an endless chain together with the associated one Chain pulleys by means of a toothed wheel connection with specially designed conical toothed wheels is replaced. This improvement makes the bike easier to walk, in that the frictional resistance becomes lower than with the use of the endless chain; it also avoids the various evils associated with the use of the Chain are linked in that it easily gets into disarray, and besides the main fault has to be retightened more often.
In Fig. 2 of the accompanying drawing, for example, a safety two-wheeler with the improvement mentioned here, seen from the side, is shown. Fig. 1 shows on a larger scale a cross section of the wheel along the line AA in Fig. 2. The connection between the crooked pin axis a and the drive wheel b is here by means of a conical gear wheel d on the crooked pin axis α and a second conical gear wheel c on the Drive axis f produced, which both gears with corresponding gears i and j engage at the ends of the axis h , which is mounted somewhat obliquely to the frame g. As mentioned before, the mentioned gears are of a special construction, whereby the necessary lightness in the course or. Reduction of the frictional resistance is achieved.
Dadurch, dafs die Zahnräder d und 2, wie in Fig. 1 gezeigt, zwischen den Zweigen oder den Seitenstücken in dem Rahmen g, der die Lager V1 und v2 für die Krummzapfenachse und dieIn the gears i and j , the teeth are formed from conical rollers k , which are rotatably mounted in the conical plates / 'and I 2 , which are fixed by means of small screw bolts on both sides of the body of the conical gear. The rollers k are mounted in these conical plates, each of them in a ring of balls n, for which rings the conical plates form corresponding bearings m . The balls η are retained in the depressions or bearings m through the flanges T 1 and r at the ends of the rollers. The flanges T 1 at the thick end of the rollers form part of the same. The flanges r, on the other hand, at the other thin end of the rollers are screwed into screw-shaped pegs s on the rollers, on which pegs the flanges r 2 can be held by a counter-screw nut or in another suitable manner. The tapered shape of the rollers K is made as strong as the tapered shape that would be given to fixed teeth if such were employed. The gears d and c have fixed teeth which are shaped accordingly to interact with the teeth or toothed rollers just described on the gears i and j. In that the gears d and 2, as shown in Fig. 1, between the branches or the side pieces in the frame g, which the bearings V 1 and V 2 for the crooked pin axis and the

Carrying the drive wheel axle, the advantage is achieved that the gears cannot bother the cyclist, and that the gears themselves can easily be covered at this point with a housing to protect against dirt. Both the bearings v 3 of the axis h and the bearings V 1 and v. 2 of the crooked pin axle and the drive wheel axle are constructed like the known ball bearings. Of course, instead of the gears provided with fixed teeth c and d respectively. gears with rollers of the construction described here are also used on the crooked pin axis α and the trailing wheel axis b , so that all cooperating gears are of the same construction as the gears i and j described above.
Claims (1)
