Abstract

A web is passed to a press section (300) containing extended nips (N1,N2). The heat is applied by a hot precalendering device (Nh) to the surface of the web placed against a water-impervious press surface in the last press nips (N1,N2) of the press section, so that the fibers of the web surface having lower density are heated, and water is evaporated and transferred to the opposite surface of the web.
