Für das Verfahren sind sowohl die unmittelbar aus Glycerin und Phthalsäureanhydrid gebildeten Harze geeignet, als auch besonders solche Harze, die durch kombinierte Einwirkung von Phthalsäureanhydrid und eines andersartigen Säurerestes auf Glycerin entstehen. Besonders wertvoll sind die Glyptalharze, die durch Einführung eines Fettsäurerestes, wie Ölsäure, Leinölsäure, Holzölsäure, oder durch Einwirkung von Abietinsäure, Benzoesäure und anderen einbasischen organischen Säuren gebildet werden. Auch die Verseifungsprodukte der Glyptalharze mit anorganischen Säureresten, besonders Chlorhydrinen, Phosphorsäureglycerinestern, sind für das Verfahren geeignet.
