Demgegenüber besteht die Erfindung darin, Adsorptionsmittel zu verwenden, welche für die Adsorption von Gasen, und zwar bestimmten Gasen, geeignet sind und sie zur Adsorption der im Tabakrauch enthaltenen schädlichen Bestandteile dadurch geeigneter zu machen, daß man sie mit Aromastoffen, insbesondere dem durch Verbrennung nikotinfreier Tabakabfälle gesonnenen Rauch, vorbehandelt. Dadurch wird erreicht, daß die im "Tabakrauch enthaltenen Aromastoffe durch das Adsorptionsmaterial nicht zurückgehalten werden, also dem Rauch nicht das Aroma genommen wird, andererseits aber die schädlichen Stoffe zurückgehalten werden. Für die Vorbehandlung der Adsorptionsmittel sind insbesondere geeignet derartige Rauchgase, wie sie bei der Verbrennung von nikotinfreien Tabakabfällen entstehen, aber auch ätherische Öle, wie Pfefferminzöl u. dgl. Die Vorbehandlung kann auch so erfolgen, daß die geeigneten Stoffe der Masse einverleibt werden, so daß sie nach dem Aktivierungsprozeß nicht oder nur teilweise entzogen werden. Ausführungsbeispiel I 50g nikotinfreier bzw. möglichst nikotinarmer Tabak werden verbrannt und der entstehende Rauch durch roo g hochaktive Kohle hindurchgeleitet.
