Process for the preparation of alkoxy-3-oxythionaphthenes in reactions
of phenolic ethers, e.g. B. of phenol alkyl ethers, in which aluminum chloride as a condensing agent
is used, the ether group remains intact in some cases, but it is
on the other hand known from the literature that often in such reactions the
Ether group is completely or for the most part saponified (see e.g. reports
25 [1892,], p. 353I) Particular attention should be paid to the action of aluminum chloride on o-methoxybenzoyl chloride
and benzene (Reports 29 [I896], p. 82q.), with smooth o-oxybenzophenone
arises. So one would also have in the attempt to use alkoxyarylthioglycolic acid chlorides
to close to alkoxyoxythionaphthenes by aluminum chloride, should expect,
that the alkyl group would split off.
However, it has been found that this is not the case, but that
the alkoxyoxythionaphthenes are obtained in smooth raction. This is even more so
surprising when z. B. in the o-Alkoxyarylthioglykolsäurechloriden the acid chloride group
must occur in the m-position to the alkoxy group and, as is known, when performing the
Friedel-Crafts reaction with phenol ethers, the acid chloride in the para- or
attacks ortho-position to the ether group, but not, as here, in m-position. Therefore
it would have been expected that in the present case there would have been no king conclusion at all
would.
The smooth course of the reaction opens up a new way of preparing the alkoxyoxythionaphthenes, which have hitherto been made either from alkoxyarylthioglycolic acids with chlorosulfonic acid or the like. Agents or from alkoxyarylthioglycolic acids which contain a C N, C 0 # N H2 or COOH group in the o-position to the sulfur. The new way is of technical importance wherever ring-closing means, such as B. chlorosulfonic acid, fail or woAlkoxyarylthioglykolsäuren.mit a to the sulfur o-position substituents of the type mentioned above are difficult to access.
Aluminiumchlorid eingetragen.
So gibt z.B. die4.-Äthoxynaphthalin-i-thioglykolsäure
Isomere Oxythionaphthenderivate entstehen
aus der 7-Methoxynaphthalini-thioglykolsäure vom F. P. 116 bis 117°, der q.-Äthoxynaphthalin
- 2 - thioglykolsättre vom F. P. 121', der 7-Methoxynaphthalin-2-thioglykolsäure
vom F. P. 161 bis 162° u. a.The reaction is carried out in the counterpart of a solvent and best immediately after the preparation of the alkoxyarylthioglycolic acid halides. Examples 1. 21.2 parts by weight of 1-methyl-6-chloro-4.-methoxybenzene-3-thioglycolic acid are converted into the chloride in a known manner in chlorobenzene with thionyl chloride. 16 parts by weight of aluminum chloride are slowly introduced into this solution at 30.degree. C., the mixture is subsequently stirred for some time at 30.degree. To q.0.degree. And the chlorobenzene is driven off with steam. The almost quantitatively obtained oxythionaphthene and also the symmetrical dye produced from it are identical to the products to be expected and produced by known methods. The oxythionaphthene arises according to the following scheme: 2. 26.2 parts by weight of 6-ethoxynaphthalene-2-thioglycolic acid from FP I22 °, which can be obtained from 6-ethoxynaphthalene-2-sulfochloride by reduction to the mercaptan and condensation with monochloroacetic acid, are converted into the chloride in chlorobenzene with phosphorus trichloride. Then 15 parts by weight of aluminum chloride are introduced with gentle heating. After stirring for one hour, the chlorobenzene is driven off with steam and the ethoxybenzoxythionaphthene which remains in a yield of over 80% is recrystallized from glacial acetic acid. FP 142, up to 14q. °. It is created according to the following scheme: The oxythionaphthenes are prepared analogously from other alkoxyarylthioglycolic acids of the benzene or naphthalene series, it being possible for the aryl nucleus to contain other substituents such as halogen or alkyl, among others. For example, 4-ethoxynaphthalene-i-thioglycolic acid gives an ethoxybenzoxythionaphthene from 95 to 96 °, which, after recrystallization from ligroin, has a value of 157 to 158 °. Isomeric oxythionaphthene derivatives arise from 7-methoxynaphthalenethioglycolic acid from FP 116 to 117 °, q.-ethoxynaphthalene-2-thioglycol saturation from FP 121 ', 7-methoxynaphthalene-2-thioglycolic acid from FP 161 to 162 °, among others
