Abstract
Dental composite comprises nanoparticulate mixed oxide of silicon dioxide with X-ray opaque metal oxides of yttrium, lanthanum, tantalum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, samarium, euphonium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium, or lutetium, which have been prepared by flame spraying. Independent claims are also included for: (a) a process for producing dental composites comprising preparing the nanoparticulate mixed oxides; dispersing the mixed oxides in polymerizable matrix resins; adding polymerization initiator; if desired, mixing the dispersion with further constituents; and subsequently curing the dispersion by thermal or light-induced polymerization; (b) a method for filling, surface sealing or restoring teeth, comprising applying the inventive dental composite to teeth; and (c) a method for preparing an X-ray-opaque filler, comprising synthesizing the nanoparticulate mixed oxide of silicon dioxide with X-ray-opaque metal oxides by flame spraying.
