Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for tempering a Battery during a charging process at a charging station the preamble of claim 1 as well as one of them Implementation of a suitable device according to the preamble of Pa serve claims 2. Methods and devices of this type in particular, traction batteries of electric vehicles during charging at a stationary charging station cool to avoid excessive heat associated with charging to avoid battery development.
Such a method and such a device are in US 4,415,847. Special will there cooling of an area of a zinc chloride battery Due to their charging suggested the formation of chlorok to facilitate tahydrate. There is a battery-side cooling loop through a quick disconnect coupling or the like with a load Connection lines on the station side to the outgoing and return lines of a refrigerant fluid stored in the charging station. In the cooling circuit section at the charging station, the cooling fluid, e.g. B. glycol, in a proportionally controllable manner from the front Storage container via a valve on the one hand in heat out exchange with a cooling unit standing cooler and the other bypassing this cooling branch directly towards the battery lead led. After the loading process, the battery-side cooling loop by releasing the quick-disconnect Connection again from the cooling circuit section on the charging station side uncoupled. A corresponding amount remains in each case of the cooling fluid in the battery-side cooling pipe section and also remains with a careful sealing of the dome connections there is a risk that at least slight Amounts of cooling fluid get into the environment, depending on the use cooling fluid may already be avoided for environmental protection reasons should be.
For other types of batteries, it is often desirable to have one To carry out temperature control during the charging process, for example cooling in the case of the use of lead accumulators the same to prevent them from overheating due to ohmic losses and to prevent the exothermic charging process. Come the other way also consider applications in which the battery during of the charging process is to be heated in addition to the chemically ak tive battery substances during charging on a keep favorable temperature, e.g. B. in the case of batteries endothermic charging process at low outside temperatures.
The invention is a technical problem of providing a method and a device for tempering a Battery during charging at a charging station according to of the type mentioned at the beginning, with the help of which the Batte Functionally reliable, easy to handle and without decoupling temperature-related fluid losses to the desired charging temperature instruments can be kept.
This problem is solved by a method with the characteristics of Claim 1 and by a device with the Merkma len of claim 2 solved. By the measure, the tem perierfluid before uncoupling the battery-side temperature control fluid line from the connecting line on the charging station side completely from the battery-side temperature control fluid line pull, it is achieved that, on the one hand, after loading has finished not unnecessarily temperature control fluid on the vehicle side remains and on the other hand the decoupling of the connection line tung, d. H. the separation of the temperature control fluid circuit without there is a risk of thermal fluid escaping because at the time of uncoupling, this is already completely different in the area of the charging station and no longer in the area of the Connection of the battery-side temperature control fluid line to the connecting line on the charging station side. Because of this pulling the temperature control fluid from the battery egg beforehand term tempering fluid line area before the separation of the Thermostating fluid circuit are not a special sealing measure took part in preventing the escape of bath fluid Uncoupling the connecting line required. Using are in a vehicle, because on the vehicle side, i.e. H. battery side, after the charging process no temperature control fluid remains, none Sealing measures in the area of the vehicle connector zens to prevent the escape of bath fluid during the subsequent onward journey required, which is particularly true when using volatile and / or polluting Thermal fluids have a beneficial effect. Also driver and driver stuff protected from pollution. When using a frostge tempering fluids at risk is also the risk of a later freezing the amount of fluid remaining in the vehicle avoided when the outside temperature drops.
In an embodiment of the device according to the invention Claim 3 vorese two pumps for the temperature control fluid circuit hen, one of which acts as a pressure pump to circulate the temperature rierfluids during charging and the other as suction pump for extracting the temperature control fluid from the battery Temperature control fluid line, especially after charging is complete, is working.
In a further embodiment of the invention according to claim 4 leg the charging station holds a cooling unit, the evaporator of which a storage container is arranged in the charging station, in which is the temperature control fluid, which in this case is the cooling fluid serves, is stored. This way of cooling the vorra The amount of cooling fluid eliminated the need for the cooling fluid subject themselves to a compression expansion cycle. Au is also with the cooling of the stored cooling fluid It can also be cooled during charging breaks in the charging station Lich, so that cold at the start of a new charging process Cooling fluid can be circulated with high performance.
In one embodiment of the invention according to claim 5 Battery cooling exclusively or in addition to a cooling aggregate a water / air heat exchanger in the cooling fluid circuit provided by which the coolant to the target cooling temperature can be brought or at least pre-cooled, if this is the ambient temperature compared to the target battery temperature.
An embodiment of the invention according to claim 6 has the front part that due to the thermal closed nature of the fluid circuit no significant heat is emitted to the outside or from is fed outside and is therefore lost. So with one Cooling process the residual cold of a cold flowing back cooling fluids can be recovered.
By developing the invention according to claim 7 multiple batteries simultaneously from a single cooling device tion are cooled, the cooling device in one Charging station can be connected to multiple batteries allowed, or a common cooling device for multiple drawers stations can be arranged.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is in the drawing voltage and is described below.
The only figure shows a schematic representation of a stationary charging station and one there for cooling charging of its Traction battery of upcoming electric vehicle.
In the figure, part of the rear area of an electric vehicle ( 1 ) is shown, in which a lead accumulator traction battery ( 3 ) is housed. The vehicle ( 1 ) is in front of a stationary charging station ( 2 ) indicated by dashed lines for charging the traction battery ( 3 ). To carry out the charging process, on the one hand an electrical connection between the poles of the battery ( 3 ) and DC voltage charging connections of the charging station ( 2 ) is established in a customary manner, which is of no further interest here and is therefore not shown explicitly. In order to dissipate the heat generated during the charging process due to exothermic chemical reactions and ohmic losses in the traction battery ( 3 ) and thus to avoid damaging overheating of the battery ( 3 ), the latter is cooled during charging. This cooling process is explained in more detail below with reference to the figure, wherein for the sake of clarity all devices not relating to the cooling process in the vehicle ( 1 ) and in the charging station ( 2 ) are not and the elements relating to the cooling process are shown in block diagram form .
A cooling fluid reservoir ( 6 ), in which the cooling fluid ( 9 ) is stored, is arranged in the stationary charging station ( 2 ). Cooling water is filled in as cooling fluid, but any other conventional coolant can also be used. The cooling water is taken from the memory ( 6 ) via an outgoing line ( 21 ) which opens into a plug connection ( 8 ) on the outside of the charging station ( 2 ). From the plug connection ( 8 ) leads a return flow line ( 22 ) back into the cooling water tank ( 6 ). The outgoing line ( 21 ) and the return line ( 22 ) are combined on the outside of the charging station ( 2 ) up to the plug connection ( 8 ) in a coaxial hose connection line ( 7 ). Here, the enveloping line represents the return line to avoid leakage of fluid to the outside in the event of leaks.
The traction battery ( 3 ) has a separate from the electrolyte compartment ( 25 ) through an intermediate floor ( 23 ) receiving space ( 24 ) for the coil windings of a cooling fluid line ( 4 ), which also consists of a supply and a discharge branch and be at the rear of the vehicle ( 5 ) a connecting piece ( 29 ) opens out, with the plug connection ( 8 ) of the coaxial hose connection line ( 7 ), as shown in the figure, can be plugged together, so that the cooling water reservoir ( 6 ), the inflow line ( 21 ), the battery side Cooling water line ( 4 ) and the return line ( 22 ) form a cooling circuit.
To cool the cooling water ( 9 ) in the stationary charging station ( 2 ) there is also a cooling unit ( 13 ) of conventional construction, ie with a refrigeration compressor ( 14 ), a DC-controllable expansion control valve ( 15 ), one of a DC-operated fan ( 17 ) cooled condenser ( 16 ), an evaporator ( 18 ) and a dryer ( 19 ). The evaporator cooling loop ( 18 ) is in the storage tank ( 6 ) in thermal contact with the cooling water ( 9 ).
To supply the battery cooling fluid line ( 4 ) with the cooling water ( 9 ), there is a direct current motor-operated pressure pump ( 10 ) in the line ( 21 ) leading from the storage tank ( 6 ). This is a controllable two-way valve ( 11 ) connected downstream, which is looped with its outlet ( 26 ) and one ( 27 ) ner two inlets ( 27 , 28 ) into the outgoing cooling water line ( 21 ). The other valve inlet ( 28 ) opens into the environment or, alternatively, to form a closed circuit in the space above the liquid level in the reservoir ( 6 ), so that air ( 20 ) can be introduced through it. In the return line ( 22 ) there is also a suction pump ( 12 ) which is also driven by a direct current and which, if necessary, supports the cooling water circulation caused by the pressure pump ( 10 ) and also fulfills a cooling water suction function described in more detail below.
With this described structure for traction battery cooling the following typical sequence occurs during their charging a charging process.
After the vehicle ( 1 ) has been approached to the stationary charging station ( 2 ), the battery connection poles are connected to the charging current connections of the charging station ( 2 ) and the cooling water hose connection ( 8 ) on the charging station side into the cooling fluid connection socket ( 29 ) at the rear of the vehicle ( 5 ) plugged in. It is provided in a manner not shown on this line plug connection ( 8 , 29 ) sensor system through which a (not shown) control for the charging process recognizes that the cooling water line connection is established. Thereupon, this control starts the charging in a predetermined manner and also activates the pressure pump ( 10 ) and supporting the suction pump ( 12 ). Furthermore, the two-way valve ( 11 ) is controlled in the position shown in the figure. The control system also receives a signal from a temperature sensor (not shown) provided in the cooling water reservoir ( 6 ) and activates the cooling unit ( 13 ) depending on the detected temperature, regardless of a charging process taking place, so that the cooling water ( 9 ) is cooled even during breaks in charging and thus sufficient cold cooling water is available at the start of a charging process. In addition, a further (not shown) temperature sensor is provided in the end section of the return line ( 22 ), with which the controller detects the cooling heat absorbed and thus the cooling power provided for cooling the traction battery ( 3 ) and the cooling water flow rate by correspondingly controlling the pumps ( 10 , 12 ) and, if applicable, the performance of the cooling unit ( 13 ) is matched accordingly. Alternatively, the coolant ( 9 ) can also be pre-cooled using a conventional water / air heat exchanger (not shown), provided that the ambient temperatures allow it, before further cooling by a refrigeration unit may be necessary.
As soon as the control determines that the traction battery ( 3 ) is fully charged again, it interrupts the charging circuit. In addition, it reverses the two-way valve ( 11 ) at this time, so that the outlet ( 26 ) is then connected to the air inlet ( 28 ). It also switches off the pressure pump ( 10 ) and the suction pump ( 12 ) to high suction power. This has the consequence that the cooling water lines ( 21 , 4 , 22 ) are gradually ventilated and the cooling water is drawn off by the air ( 20 ) via the valve ( 11 ) into the outgoing line ( 21 ) and from there into the battery-side cooling fluid line ( 4 ) and finally flows into the return line ( 22 ) due to the suction effect of the suction pump ( 12 ). After the coolant lines ( 21 , 4 , 22 ) are ventilated in this way, the control signals the user to the end of the charging process, after which the user can release the electrical and fluid connections between the battery ( 3 ) and charging station ( 2 ). Since the cooling water was previously completely sucked out of the battery-side cooling fluid line ( 4 ) and the connection area, when the coax hose connector ( 8 ) is unplugged, no coolant is released from the vehicle-side hose connection piece ( 29 ), which is particularly important if instead of cooling water an environmentally harmful cooling fluid is used. In addition, after uncoupling the hose connection line ( 7 ) on the charging station side from the vehicle ( 1 ), the battery-side temperature control fluid line ( 4 ) is free of cooling fluid. This has the advantage that the battery-side tempering fluid line ( 4 ) is not for the constant absorption of the cooling fluid z. B. needs to be designed material. At the same time, sealing measures can also be omitted, which would otherwise be necessary in this case, in particular in the case of a volatile cooling fluid, in the line connection area ( 8 , 29 ). In addition, when using cooling water, there is no risk that it freezes in the battery-side temperature control fluid line ( 4 ) at a later time due to falling ambient temperature.
The combined traction battery charging and -cooling arrangement thus ensures a reliable, be Quemen and safe charging with simultaneous battery cooling lung. It is understood that the person skilled in the art ver various modifications of this embodiment in Can make the scope of the invention. For example instead of the coaxial hose connection two individual ones Hose lines can be arranged. Furthermore, can be given if on a cooling day separate from the battery cooling circuit gregat dispensed and this cooling device directly in the bat terie cooling coolant circuit can be integrated. Farther it is possible to close the cooling fluid lines at the end of the charging process filled with a fluid other than air. Is an advantage further an alternative charging process in which the tax increase over the temperature of the refluxing cooling fluid next closes on the battery temperature and when it he knows that the same because of a previous trip is very hot, this first cools down before the charging circuit closed and thus the electrical charging process for a Reloading or intermediate charging is started.
It is also possible with an arrangement of this type instead of egg heating the battery to be charged, which is particularly important for battery types with endothermic charging behavior is considered to be the electrolyte on a for the Ab course of the chemical reactions used for energy storage maintain optimal temperature. In this way, for a suitable temperature for each battery type during charging temperature range even in the case of a quick charge at the charging station perform. It can be provided that the control a rapid charge is only activated when it has recognized that the Thermostating fluid connection line is connected to the vehicle and the temperature fluid circuit is working properly.
The heat transfer fluid can also be air that is pre-cooled or can be heated; in this case the cycle can too be open, provided the air outlet temperature from the Bat The cooling coil section exceeds the ambient temperature tet. If the outlet temperature is below the ambient temperature temperature, it makes more sense to close the cycle hold.
While above the case of a traction battery for an electric vehicle was considered, it is understood that the invention can also be used for other battery systems in which the battery from time to time at a stationary charging station with simultaneous temperature control.
