Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a cover for Radar antennas, especially for flat plate and array Antennas of airplanes and missiles that are part of the Radome surrounding the antenna.
Modern fighter planes are becoming increasingly insensitive illuminating against them, d. H. an enemy, Radar radiation, as it is especially from the American Camouflage bomber is known. A weak point in the Shielding against illuminating radar beams is still that own missile radar antenna because of the regular arrangement of backscatter centers, d. H. Slits or radiating elements, the antenna itself from every direction with a suitable frequency adjustment is radar-visible. A effective protection against backscattering enemy Radar radiation therefore requires effective coverage of the aircraft's own radar antenna.
For on-board radars of both guided missiles and Fighter planes become predominant for a variety of reasons Flat plate antennas used. At this The type of antenna the radar wave to be emitted becomes from one Variety of individual waves composed by one regular arrangement of single spotlights generated according to the amplitude. With the flat plate antenna the phase angles of the individual radiators cannot be adjusted. In contrast, these values can be so with the phased array antenna be changed so that the radiation direction in one can control large angular range.
Becomes a flat plate or a phased array antenna from on an opposing radar, then the incident wave from each single radiator of the array reflected back. The resultant of these individual Backscatter fields are obtained by vectorially adding the Field strengths in the complex number plane. At a there is a regular spatial arrangement of the individual radiators a specific radar frequency for each line of sight at which the reflection fields of the individual emitters become one Add up the total field, in terms of its intensity with the backscatter field of the vertically illuminated, d. H. illuminated, plate is comparable. This for Camouflage (stealth) aircraft can also be a critical problem due to an irregular arrangement of the individual radiators be decisively defused; your own radar antenna thus forms the Achilles heel of the stealth aircraft.
If you cover the radar antenna with one for radar radiation narrow band transparent radome, so it is only in visible in a small frequency range. Another Possibility is to use a radar antenna roll up metallic foil to cover its electrical conductive part rolled away before activating the radar becomes. Both solutions have one frequency or the operating time, complete shielding of the array Antenna not possible, with the remaining visibility in the first Case of the width of the useful band and the filter quality of the Radoms and the second solution from the relative Radar radiation duration and roll speed of the Cover film depends.
The US-PS 45 70 166 describes a cover for Radar antennas of aircraft and missiles that part of the radome surrounding the antenna. The damping behavior the coverage cannot be changed over time. The Damping is only from the angle of incidence dependent on electromagnetic radiation.
Dabei wird die Änderung der Leitfähigkeit der fotosensitiven Schicht bei Beleuchtung ausgenutzt.DE 39 20 110 C2 describes an electromagnetic Aircraft and missile windows, with a light source and a photosensitive layer, which is illuminated with the Light source reversible from the electromagnetic transparent State changes into a reflective state. Doing so the change in the conductivity of the photosensitive layer Lighting used.
The Cavities can be on the wing or tail edges installed or incorporated into the planking structure his. This allows the aircraft's radar image to be selected be changed, in which case the change of covering material with the modified Conductivity values, dielectric constants and others physical quantities on the absorption behavior and the Transparency influences.
DE 41 40 944 A1 also describes an absorber structure variable absorption characteristics for electromagnetic Radiation emitted from a with ferroelectric Dipole molecules provided carrier layer and on both sides of the Carrier layer arranged control electrodes consists of which at least the radiation-incident control electrode is designed to be transparent to radiation. By creating one Control voltage to the control electrodes are the Dipole molecules according to the one between the control electrodes effective electric field aligned, which is the Absorption profile of the absorber within certain limits can change.
It is from the older, not prepublished EP 0 568 511 A1 known to thereby cover an antenna and ultimately theirs Influence on the total radar reflection cross section influence that, as mentioned at the beginning, a movable Metal layer is placed in front of the antenna, if necessary can be opened.
Finally, EP 0 554 847 A1 describes a switchable one Resonance filter for optical radiation, through which the effective dielectric constant in the environment of a Sensor can be influenced specifically. The change in Dielectric constant is done by changing the Distance between the sensor and an underlying one Electrode.
The object of the present invention is to provide a cover for To create radar antennas of missiles within can be switched on and off within a few microseconds and which, when switched on, protect your own Radar antenna that protects the rest of the aircraft in nothing is inferior.
Starting from a cover of those mentioned in the beginning Art is the solution to this problem by the im characterizing part of claim 1 specified features; advantageous embodiments are in the subclaims described.
There is a great advantage of the cover according to the invention in that the electron flow from the cathode to the anode and thus the reflective effect of the cover for the Missile shielding by lowering or raising the Anode voltage off and on within a few microseconds can be turned on; that meet the needs of the Aircraft-adapted gas discharge tube thus serves as ultra-fast flat shutter for the radar antenna. Here the electrode current is practically throughout Missile mission maintained, and only in the extremely short periods in which a radar pulse is emitted or should be received, the cover temporarily open.
Es zeigen:In the following the invention with reference to the drawing explained in the an advantageous embodiment is shown. Show it:

FIG. 2 shows a section through the cover according to the invention along the plane AA from FIG. 1.
In the figures, in which the same parts are provided with the same reference numerals, 9 designates the radome of a missile, for example a combat aircraft, which is provided with an array antenna 5 which is arranged inside the radome 9 and parallel to it. In order to protect this array antenna 5 from the reflection of opposing radar radiation illuminating the aircraft, a cover is provided according to the invention in the form of a modified gas discharge tube, the cover consisting of two, arranged in front of the array antenna 5 , planning for radar radiation there are transparent plates 3 and 4 , the dimensions of which are equal to and larger than the dimensions of the array antenna 5 . The two plates 3 , 4 enclose a cavity between them which is filled with a rare gas of low molecular weight (for example helium) or with hydrogen. Arranged along two opposing edges in the cavity between the plates 3 and 4 are an anode 2 connected to an electric heater and an oxide-coated cathode 1 or an anode connected to a positive voltage source. When the cathode and anode are acted upon appropriately, electrons are generated by the cathode 1 , which migrate to the positively charged anode 2 and collide with some of the atoms of the filling gas on their way there and thereby ionize them, so that an electrically conductive plasma is produced which Cavity between the two flat plates 3 and 4 fills evenly. If a monochromatic opposing radar wave hits the flat plasma layer 7 from the outside, then the electric field of this wave sets the electrons of the plasma into a sinusoidal oscillation which is superimposed on the thermal movement of the electrons.
The vibrating electrons in turn create a stray field that overlaps the field of the incident radar waves. In each layer of the plasma between the plates 3 , 4 parallel to the plates 3 , 4 , the amplitude of the electron oscillation is constant, while the phase along the layer changes linearly. Each layer thus generates a stray field strongly bundled in the direction of reflection, the incident radar wave being completely reflected with a suitable electron density and sufficient plasma thickness, but the reflection in the direction of the illuminating radar is relatively low. The electron density depends primarily on the anode current and the density, ie the pressure of the filling gas.
An effective reflection plane 8 can be defined from the phase relationship between the incident radar wave and the wave reflected at the plasma layer 7 . An electrically conductive foil attached in place of the gas discharge tube in this plane would produce the same reflection field as the plasma.
The cover according to the invention is arranged in the flat structure of the radome 9 such that the plane of the electrically conductive surface of this radome coincides with the effective reflection plane of the plasma. This minimizes the radar reflection from the electrically covered array antenna.
Die Mindestanforderung an die Elektronendichte ED erfordert, daß diese die folgende Beziehung erfüllt:The density of the electrons in the plasma layer required for complete reflection and the minimum thickness of the plasma can easily be determined experimentally, as can the required areas of the cathode and anode and the electrical power for the connection of the gas discharge tube. The minimum requirement for the electron density E D requires that it satisfy the following relationship:
ED f² εm/e²,E D f² εm / e²,
Die Elektronendichte muß außerdem so hoch sein, daß die Eindringtiefe der einfallenden Radarwelle nur einen Bruchteil dieser Radarwellenlänge beträgt.where m is the mass of the electron, e is the charge of the electron, ε is the vacuum dielectric constant and f is the largest frequency of the radar waves to be reflected. At 18 GHz the minimum electron density is 4 × 10¹² cm -3 . When using helium as the filling gas, this value is reached at 1033 Pa, a current density of 0.2 A / cm² and a field strength of 1 V / cm. The electron density must also be so high that the penetration depth of the incident radar wave is only a fraction of this radar wavelength.
The thickness of the two plates 3 and 4 is to be chosen so that the load resulting from the pressure difference between atmosphere and plasma can be safely borne. The few supports 6 shown in FIG. 1 serve to keep the thickness of the plates as small as possible. The distance between the plates 3 and 4 must also be chosen so that the transparency for the radar waves emitted by the own antenna is as high as possible; depending on the thickness of the plates and the exit or incidence angle, the optimal distance is between 20% and 30% of the radar wavelength.
