Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a hydrometal lurgical process for the extraction of tantalum and niobium from low tantalum and niobium-rich raw materials Digestion with pure hydrofluoric acid or a Mixture of hydrofluoric acid and sulfuric acid, subsequent solvent extraction of tantalum and Niobium fluorocomplexes from the digestion solution with Methyl isobutyl ketone and steam distillation with Organic ketone phase loaded with tantalum and niobium.
Tantalum and niobium occur most naturally come up side by side. Different quantities Relationships between the two elements, however, characterize the Ores and their deposits. Niobium essentially becomes from Columbite and / or Pyrochlore ore from Brazil and Canada won. However, these ores only contain minor amounts of tantalum. Tantalum-rich ores - like e.g. B. tantalite - are accordingly poorer in niobium.
You use tantalum and niobium however, primarily the slag that comes with the tin extraction (Thailand, Brazil). This tin Today, slag is the most important source of raw materials for the two elements, although niobium and tantalum are only in minor quantities are included. Also at These tin slags are encountered in very different ways Ta / Nb ratios.
Usually you win the two metals and theirs Compounds made from tantalum and low-niobium raw materials, such as e.g. B. tin slags, on a detour via molten metal lurgical enrichment process for the two el ment. Only the synthetic tantalum niobium Concentrates are an economical wet chemical Processing accessible. Under these tin slags there there are also those that - similar to the natural colum contain bit tantalum in a very unfavorable Ta / Nb ratio ten, d. H. they are tantalum-rich and niobium-rich. The usual are hydrometallurgical digestion and separation processes not applicable under economic standards for this, because these processes set a Ta / Nb ratio of min at least 1: 3 in advance in the concentrate used.
Niobverbindungen weiterverarbeitet. The conventional known from US-A 31 17 833 hydrometallurgical process for the extraction of tantalum or niobium consists of digestion of the tantalum niobium Raw materials in mineral acids, preferably in fluorine water mixtures of sulfuric acid. Tantalum and niobium solved together as fluorocomplexes and then with a multi-stage solvent extraction MIBK (methyl isobutyl ketone, 2-methylpentanone-4) initially from the accompanying elements and then from each other separates. The fluoroniobates or Fluorotantalate selectively re-extracted and pure Tantalum or niobium compounds processed.
In detail, this happens because the niobium and Organic ketone phase loaded with tantalum z. B. with ver thinned sulfuric acid is selectively freed from niobium, while tantalum remains in the organic phase, from which it can be re-extracted with water.
However, are low tantalum and niobium-rich raw materials inserted, then the tantalum at this point the organic ketone phase is only a very low one Concentration on. This fact does a lot poor space-time yield, causing the process becomes uneconomical.
This is to achieve that the problem of emulsion formation is avoided, the organic solvent can be easily recovered and reused, an aqueous solution of niobium and / or tantalum fluorine complexes with a three to four times higher concentration than in the solution in the Organic solvent is obtained and the aqueous product solution is very suitable for the economic crystallization of K 2 TaF 7 .
Dies gilt insbesondere also nicht für tantalarme Niob /Tantal-Komplexe.In particular, this does not apply to low tantalum niobium / Tantalum complexes.
The object of this invention is therefore the provision of a method which corresponds to those of the prior art is superior. In particular, it should be suitable, tan Valley of tantalum-poor and at the same time niobium-rich use substances with the wet chemical digestion and extract tion process economically without first the detour via melt metallurgical processes is necessary is. The niobium is also said to be completely won be.
The task is accomplished through a process solved with the characterizing features of claim 1.
The tantalum-poor and niobium-rich raw materials, e.g. B. tin slag, nio-ores and / or concentrates are pure Hydrofluoric acid or in a mixture of fluorine hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid digested and the acidic solution is first mixed with MIBK (methyl isobutyl ketone) extracted, with niobium and tantalum together go into the organic phase. Usually be one draws the sum of the earth acid metals on their Oxides calculated as "Combined Oxides" (abbr .: "C. O."). The organic phase does not become - as usual - the niobium selectively with dilute mineral acid or Water is re-extracted, but the C.O.- loaded ketone phase of a steam distillation. By this measure is achieved that the two recyclables in a highly concentrated form into an aqueous phase leads. This aqueous phase is now Selectively extracted tantalum with fresh ketone (MIBK), while the niobium remains in the aqueous phase.
The present invention thus relates to a hydrometal lurgical process for the extraction of tantalum and niobium from low tantalum and niobium-rich raw materials Digestion with pure hydrofluoric acid or a Mixture of hydrofluoric acid and sulfuric acid, subsequent solvent extraction of tantalum and Niobium fluorocomplexes from the digestion solution with Methyl isobutyl ketone and steam distillation of the Tantalum and niobium laden organic ketone phase, being the tantalum from the emerging new water phase selectively extracted with fresh methyl isobutyl ketone while the niobium is completely in the water phase remains.
By choosing the phase ratio of organic Phase and aqueous phase can the tantalum content in the the new MIBK phase to the desired concentration be put. If you take this organic phase one undergoes further steam distillation, reached a renewed increase in tantalum concentration in the new aqueous phase. A preferred execution Form of the method according to the invention thus exists in that the tantalum-containing new organic ketone phase treated again with steam and thereby the tantalum is re-extracted. The new concentrated tantalum solution can be processed in a known manner.
The method according to the invention is advantageously used bar for different tantalum / niobium raw materials. Especially There are other advantages if in the tantalum and niobium-containing raw materials are used in which there is a Ta / Nb ratio of 0.2. Preferably can the process for columbite ores and / or tin slags applied with a Ta / Nb ratio of 1: 5 to 1:15 will.
The invention is explained by way of example below. without any limitation.
A Columbite ore with 35 wt .-% Nb 2 O 5 and 4 wt .-% Ta 2 O 5 , the rest SiO 2 , FeO, MnO 2 , TiO 2 and other impurities was broken down with 70% pure hydrofluoric acid. A solution was formed with 135 g / l CO (= Combined Oxides, Nb 2 O 5 and Ta 2 O 5 ) and an acidity of 20 N. The Ta / Nb ratio in this starting solution was approx. 1: 9, depending on the starting material This feed solution was conducted in a countercurrent solvent extraction system against an organic phase composed of methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK). With 0.3 g / l CO, the raffinate was sufficiently free of valuable substances. The ketone phase with 89 g / l CO was then washed with a little 12 normal sulfuric acid in order to remove residual impurities by accompanying elements extracted with it. The ketone phase loaded with niobium and tantalum was discharged and subjected to steam distillation, the ketone being distilled off and a concentrated niobium tantalum solution remaining. The elements tantalum and niobium present as fluorocomplexes were present here in a concentration ratio of 20 g / l Ta 2 O 5 to 180 g / l Nb 2 O 5 (Ta / Nb ratio 1: 9). Due to the low acidity of the solution, the tantalum was selectively extracted into a new ketone phase, while the niobium (180 g / l Nb 2 O 5 ) remained in the water phase and could be worked up separately. The ketone phase loaded with tantalum (with 140 g / l Ta 2 O 5 ) was treated again with steam, whereby the ketone was removed from the system and a concentrated aqueous tantalum fluoride solution (with <200 g / l Ta 2 O 5 ) was obtained . This was finally converted into the end product potassium hepta fluorotantalate using a customary process. The methyl isobutyl ketone expelled from the steam distillations was used again as a fresh extractant after the processing losses had been made up.
The niobium-tantalum solution from the ore digestion used in Example 1 was - according to Example 1 - in a countercurrent solvent extraction system also against an organic phase of methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK). The ketone phase with approx. 90 g / l CO was then washed with a little 12 normal sulfuric acid in order to remove residual impurities by means of accompanying elements extracted with it. From the ketone phase loaded with niobium and tantalum, the niobium was selectively and completely converted into an aqueous phase by stripping with 2N sulfuric acid and the niobium fluoride solution used as sulfuric acid to obtain niobium hydroxide. The ketone phase, which now only contains tantalum, with only about 7.5 g / l Ta 2 O 5 was freed from the ketone by steam distillation and converted into a water phase with <25 g / l Ta 2 O 5 . This solution with the relatively low tantalum content is not suitable for economical further processing, since it either requires too much thermal energy for evaporation or leaves too large amounts of salt-laden water if one wants to obtain tantalum hydroxide from it.
