Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for Sedimentation of phosphor particles based on doped rare earth oxide halides, in particular LaOBr: Tb, from an aqueous containing coagulant Suspension for the formation of a phosphor layer on a Substrate.
In Philips Tech. In Philips Tech. Rev. 44, pages 335 to 347 is a Methods of this type are described. For fluorescent screens of TV projection cathode ray tubes is more suitable Fluorescent also called LaOBr: Tb, being used as a process to apply such a phosphor layer on a Sedimentation screen is highlighted. It will noted that the composition of the Sedimentation bath for the operating characteristics of the Fluorescent layers is significant.
The invention has for its object a method of the type mentioned above, which the Production of a well adhering to the substrate Fluorescent layer allowed, the ratio of Luminescence radiation to stimulating radiation energy high is.
Die Lösung gelingt durch folgende Verfahrensschritte:The solution is achieved through the following process steps:
The doped rare earth oxide halide is in water preferably using an Ultraturrax stir bar strongly dispersed
- - in der erhaltenen Suspension wird an Alkoholat liganden gebundenes Silizium, insbesondere Tetramethylorthosilikat Si(OCH3)4 vorzugsweise tropfenweise dispergiert- Silicon-bound to alcoholate ligand, in particular tetramethyl orthosilicate Si (OCH 3 ) 4, is preferably dispersed dropwise in the suspension obtained
The mixture obtained is stirred for at least 6 min and then into one on the substrate Given sedimentation bath, which consists of alkaline earth ions containing water
After sedimentation is complete, it will be on the substrate obtained phosphor layer isolated, in particular by decanting or suction.
The invention is based on the knowledge that it is not spherical but platy from doped Fluorescent particles consisting of rare earth oxide halides in the case of sedimentation effected in a conventional manner weighing with their largest area horizontal to the substrate be aligned. A result then arises relatively high packing density, similar to the Layering a brick masonry, but the expected high luminous efficacies are not achieved. Arise namely in this positional arrangement due to the anisotropic Structure of the phosphor particles optical losses. By the invention achieves that a significantly larger Proportion of phosphor particles no longer horizontal but statistically also vertical to the substrate surface is aligned. Despite the lower packing density then the primary radiation energy with higher yield coupled out of the screen as luminescent radiation.
In the method according to the invention, enlarged ones act electrostatic adhesive forces between the Phosphor particles and the substrate surface, which have the consequence that in the vertical direction to Fluorescent particles moving in the substrate Bind directional position on the substrate and stick.
According to the invention, this results in both improved Wet adhesion of the phosphor layer on the substrate as also an increased light output.
It is advantageous that the silicic acid ester or the silicon bound to alcoholate ligands is added in an amount smaller than that at which a spontaneous flocculation of SiO 2 in the sedimentation bath would begin. The wet grip increases up to a limit with an increase in the proportion of, for example, tetramethyl orthosilicate. According to the invention, this limit value should be approximately strived for. On the other hand, values that are too high are harmful because SiO 2 can then flocculate out of the sedimentation bath.
In the case of using tetramethyl orthosilicate it has therefore proved to be beneficial, this in a lot add from 0.7 to 1.5% by volume of the sedimentation bath put. At 1.5 vol.%, Flocculation only occurs a few hours. For adequate liability are at least 0.7 vol.% required.
To achieve good wet grip, it is advantageous to that the sedimentation bath alkaline earth ions in a lot contains which is less than ± 40% of the experimental determined value deviates, which is an optimal wet device of the phosphor body results.
When Ba (NO 3 ) 2 is advantageously used as a coagulant, it should be added in an amount of 0.05 to 0.15 percent by weight.
It has been found that the advantageous effect of the invention can be supported by pretreating the substrate surface with an alcoholic KOH / H 2 O solution and / or by pretreating the surface of the phosphor particles in an approximately 10% NH 3 solution becomes.
The invention is explained in more detail with reference to the drawing.

Fig. 2 und Fig. 3).In a preferred embodiment in use for projection television tubes with a substrate area of 150 cm 2 to be covered , 630 mg of LaOBr: Tb phosphor particles with an average particle size of d 50 = 5.6 μm in 28 ml of H 2 O were vigorously produced using an Ultraturrax stirring rod dispersed. 3 ml of Si (OCH 3 ) 4 were added dropwise to the suspension obtained. The mixture was stirred for a further 10 min and then immediately added to the sedimentation vessel, on the bottom of which the substrate was and which was filled with 200 ml of water in which 1.1 percent by weight of Ba (NO 3 ) 2 was dissolved. After sedimentation was complete, the phosphor layer obtained was isolated by suction. The result was an outstandingly adherent phosphor layer with a luminous efficacy of more than 40 lm / W for LaOBr: Tb. The process parameters chosen for this exemplary embodiment were varied. Significant influences on the wet adhesion were observed in particular when changing the mole fraction of Si (OCH 3) 4 and / or Ba (NO 3) 2 (see. Fig. 2 and Fig. 3).
The time period for stirring the aqueous suspension of LaOBr: Tb and Si (OCH 3 ) 4 during which the hydrolysis of Si (OCH 3 ) 4 takes place is less critical ( FIG. 1).
The size of the phosphor particles is also less critical when using the method according to the invention than with conventional methods. The particle diameter d 50 should, however, not be chosen to be larger than 8 pm.
In the figures, the is in the ordinate direction Diameter of the holes applied in the fresh formed phosphor layer arise when a Water jet through a nozzle with 0.8 mm bore 15 mm from the layer is removed for 30 seconds. The nozzle will fed by a 1 m higher reservoir. The resulting hole diameters are the wet grip forces inversely proportional.
In Fig. 1 in the abscissa is the time (in minutes) of stirring of Si (OCH 3) 4, and thus applied the hydrolysis. It can be seen that hydrolysis times over 10 minutes are of no advantage, but the mixing time should not be less than about 5 minutes.
In FIG. 2, the amount of Si (OCH 3) in the abscissa is plotted in ml 4, which was applied on a Sediusentationsvolumen of 200 ml of water. It can be seen that a saturation amount of 2 ml should be aimed for. The amount should not be less than 1.5 ml, rather you should provide up to 2.5 ml as a precaution.
In FIG. 3, the amount of Ba (NO 3 ) 2 in mg, which was dissolved in 200 ml of water, is plotted in the direction of the abscissa. An optimal value can be seen at around 200 mg. A significant deviation from this optimum value must be avoided in the interest of good wet grip.
The invention was explained using the example of the phosphor LaOBr: Tb. Si (OCH 3 ) 4 has been described in more detail as a particularly suitable bond form of silicon.
The mechanisms of action explained for these substances naturally also apply to related substances. As Phosphors in the sense of the present invention are all doped rare earth oxide halides such as in particular LaOCl: Tb or La, GdOBr: Ce, Tb and their mixtures to look at, each as platelet-shaped particles with non-isotropic crystal structure and therefore there is anisotropic behavior.
Silicon can generally be linked to alcoholic ligands be tied, with tetramethyl orthosilicate particularly is advantageous.
Of course, when using other connecting groups, slightly different values for optimal mixing quantities may result than they follow from FIGS. 2 and 3, for example. However, the most favorable quantitative ratios can simply be determined experimentally in the manner explained.
