Description
Cover for the timing gear housing of internal combustion engines. In internal combustion engines, it is common practice to drive the control camshaft, ignition device, cooling water pump and the like from the motor shaft by means of a gear drive. In the meantime, however, the noise of the gear wheels is sometimes very unpleasant, especially in the case of high-speed motors such as those used for driving vehicles. This deficiency is eliminated according to the invention in that # the cover of the timing gear housing is designed as a hollow body which is filled with oil. The oil can escape at individual points in order to lubricate the bearings built into the cover, the tooth flanks of the timing gears, etc. This device also serves to cool the oil used, which has heated up in the engine, on the large area of the gear box cover exposed to the fan. To increase the cooling effect, the cover can be fitted with cooling fins. In the drawing there is one. Embodiment of the inventive concept shown for example. The camshaft b mounted in the crankcase a is driven from the crankshaft c through the gears d and e . In the drawing, in addition to the crankshaft, only the camshaft directly driven by it is shown, but other shafts may also be required, for example to drive the ignition device and the cooling water pump, which are then also driven by gearwheels, under certain circumstances with intermediate gears. This is irrelevant for the essence of the invention. The gears are enclosed in a housing, the cover f of which consists of two walls. In the cavity g remaining between the two walls, a pump (not shown in the drawing) is passed through. the tube h oil pressed into it. Through suitable channels, the oil can flow to all lubrication points on the cover and the gear wheels. At i we see a hole that leads the lubricating oil to the camshaft bearing @. k is a lengthwise pierced one. cast pin. A jet of lubricating oil can spray out through another> hole in the direction of the working tooth flanks. All other sliding surfaces are supplied with lubricating oil in the same way. The line h can be connected to the pressure oil line of the engine or to a special pump. The oil that squirts off the gears collects at the bottom of the housing and flows through a corresponding hole or a special line to the pump reservoir or back to the crankcase. If, in view of the cooling, a faster circulation of the lubricating oil is desired, a special return line can be connected to the top of the cavity g. The cooling fins of the cover are designated by m, which are not necessary. Form part of the lid and can also be omitted. In the case of the hollow steering wheel housing. Cover according to the invention, a particularly careful removal of the core is necessary so that no grains of sand or other impurities get into the lubricating oil. For this reason, the hollow body is expediently provided with large lids or made divided.
