Abstract

A free-piston engine has one or more pistons (1) which are preferably rigidly connected to hydraulic pistons (2) and which move freely in cylinders along the longitudinal axis. The rear face of the piston (1) is used to convey the combustion air and the piston movement is induced and controlled by electronically actuated hydraulic valves (8).
