Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an exhaust system for an internal combustion engine driving a motor vehicle with those in the preamble of patent pronounced 1 characteristics.
Such an exhaust system is from DE-OS 28 05 377 be knows. In this, the exhaust gases in Exhaust gas heat exchanger to avoid overheating this downstream exhaust gas cleaning system through a gaseous Cooled cooling medium that is useless outside after heating is directed. Such a cooling device requires if an effective temperature reduction of the exhaust gases can be achieved should have a large cooling surface and a significant throughput Cooling medium.
From DE 35 30 472 A1 an oil circuit is also a Internal combustion engine known in which the oil in a constant from the exhaust gases of the internal combustion engine through the heat exchanger should be heated to operating temperature. A regulation of Exhaust gas temperature is not provided.
The invention has for its object in a Generic motor vehicle exhaust system a good and safe controllable exhaust gas temperature with a low cost and space need to ensure and the amount of heat generated makes sense full use.
This task is through the characterizing features of claim 1 solved.
The use of a high-boiling liquid in the cooling circuit ensures a high heat absorption capacity from the exhaust gases even with small dimensions of the exhaust gas liquid Heat exchanger and the associated small space requirement and low flow losses, so that even under unfavorable order there would be a limit on the maximum temperature of the exhaust gases is created. The recooling of the high-boiling liquid with their possible high transmission temperature in Liquid-air heat exchanger is in its special location even at high outside temperatures due to the wind or through the warm engine compartment exhaust air ensures. Regardless of it enables heat to be given off in the liquid-air heat exchanger Keep the wheel arches free of snow and ice. Since the described The exhaust gas temperature limit does not interfere with the best existing systems is necessary, a later installation is also - easily possible.
The formation of the subject of the invention according to the patent saying 2 improves the heat transfer between the exhaust gas and the exhaust manifold. From DE-PS 8 09 863 is already a Heat exchanger trained muffler known in which to better heat absorption ribs protrude into the exhaust gas flow.
Similarly, the measures of claim 3 Heat transfer between the exhaust manifold and the liquid improved without increasing the installation space.
Dabei zeigtIn the following the invention based on one in the drawing illustrated embodiment explained in more detail. Here shows

An exhaust manifold 1 with six exhaust pipe 2 is flowed through from the gases from an internal combustion engine, not shown. At the exhaust manifold 1 , an exhaust pipe 3 connects, in which a catalyst 4 is arranged. The exhaust manifold 1 is surrounded at a radial distance by a two-part jacket 5 , so that an intermediate space 6 is formed in which a high-boiling liquid such as an oil is helically guided by two ribs 7 , which is in the intermediate space 6 between the wall 8 of the exhaust manifold 1 and the jacket 5 are helical. In the area of the exhaust gas-liquid heat exchanger 9 thus formed, short ribs 10 protrude from the wall 8 of the exhaust manifold 1 into the exhaust duct 11 , which improve the heat transfer from the exhaust gas to the wall 10 .
The exhaust gas-liquid heat exchanger 9 is connected via a line system 12 to a liquid-air heat exchanger 13 which is mounted in a wheel housing 14 in the front part of the motor vehicle 15 driven by the internal combustion engine and here the liquid heat to the incoming ambient air and releases to the engine compartment air. In the line system 12 , a pressure vessel 16 for maintaining an excess pressure in the liquid and a pump 17 for circulating the liquid are arranged. The pump 17 is controlled as a function of the exhaust gas temperature in the exhaust line 3 upstream of the catalytic converter 4 . For this purpose, a temperature sensor 18 is arranged in the latter, the signals of which are supplied to the pump 17 via a logic circuit 19 . At an exhaust gas temperature, which causes damage to the catalytic converter 4 due to overheating, the pump 17 is switched on, so that the liquid exhaust gas heat from the exhaust gas-liquid heat exchanger 9 can lead to the liquid-air heat exchanger 13 , thus reducing the exhaust gas temperature. Because of the high temperature differences between the individual media in the heat exchangers 9 and 13 , a large heat transfer takes place, especially if the liquid evaporates in whole or in part in the exhaust gas-liquid heat exchanger 9 despite its high boiling temperature and condenses accordingly in the liquid-air heat exchanger 13 . At an exhaust gas temperature permissible for the catalytic converter 4 , the pump 17 is switched off, so that the catalytic converter 4 has a temperature which is favorable for its operation. The arrangement described makes it possible to arrange the catalytic converter 4 close to the internal combustion engine without the risk of overheating, in order to reach its operating temperature more quickly.
