Description
The invention relates to an internal combustion engine with an intake system and an off inlet system and one branching from the outlet system and leading to the inlet system Exhaust gas recirculation line, an exhaust gas recirculation cooler being provided in the exhaust gas recirculation line is arranged.
It is known to recycle part of the exhaust gas from the exhaust system into the intake system to reduce the NO x emissions in internal combustion engines. The NO x emissions are reduced directly during combustion, on the one hand by reducing the flame temperature and on the other hand by reducing the burning speed. Thus, although the temperature of the intake fresh air-exhaust gas mixture is increased by the exhaust gas recirculation, the above-mentioned mechanisms have the effect of lowering the combustion gas temperature during the combustion. In order to further reduce the NO x emissions, it is advantageous to additionally cool both components of the sucked-in gas mixture (fresh air and recirculated exhaust gas) as far as possible. An internal combustion engine of this type is known for example from DE 43 19 380 C1. The exhaust gas recirculation cooler is usually designed as a simple air / air or air / water heat exchanger without a working medium that changes the physical state.
From US 3,962,869 and US 4,107,922 an internal combustion engine with a Heat pipe heat exchanger known in the exhaust system, which heat the exhaust gas Extracts the area of an exhaust manifold and feeds it to an exhaust gas reactor.
From RU 2 070 655 C1 an internal combustion engine with a heat pipe Heat exchanger known, which extracts heat from the exhaust gas of the exhaust system, and feeds a carburetor of the intake system.
Heat pipe heat exchangers, which work according to the so-called heat pipe principle, have one or more closed and evacuated tubes. Each tube forms one closed cycle. The heat is transported through the circulation of a special working medium in the tube. By constant evaporation and subsequent Condensation of the vaporizable working medium, for example methanol, is on Heat supplied to one end of the tube at the other end of the tube by condensation tion of the working medium to a heat sink. According to the heat pipe principle Working heat pipe heat exchangers allow a high degree of design freedom and can be very powerful be compact and work with high efficiency, especially with large higher temperature differences.

DE 25 23 645 A1 also shows a heater for motor vehicles with a heat rope shear connected to the cooling system of the internal combustion engine. In the streams The path of the cooling water opens in front of the heat exchanger from the exhaust system openable heat pipe.
The object of the invention is in an internal combustion engine of the type mentioned a structurally simple and space-saving efficient cooling of the recirculated exhaust gas to enable.
According to the invention this is achieved in that the exhaust gas recirculation cooler as heat Merohr heat exchanger is formed and at least one closed and evacuated has a heat pipe filled with a working medium, the first end of which in the exhaust gas return line is arranged and the second end connected to a heat sink and that in the exhaust gas recirculation cooler the diameter and / or the immersion depth of the Heat pipes in the recirculated exhaust gas and / or in the heat sink - according to the Heat gradients of the exhaust gas recirculation cooler - are different.
A second embodiment of the invention provides that the exhaust gas recirculation cooler as Heat pipe heat exchanger is formed and at least one closed evacuated and has a heat pipe filled with a working medium, the first end of which in the Exhaust gas recirculation line is arranged and the second end ver with a heat sink and that at least two heat pipes are different types of working media - according to the heat gradient of the exhaust gas recirculation cooler.
According to a third embodiment variant of the invention, it is provided that the exhaust gas Recirculation cooler is designed as a heat pipe heat exchanger and at least one closed senes evacuated and filled with a working medium heat pipe, the first end is arranged in the exhaust gas recirculation line and the second end with a Heat sink is connected, and that at least two heat pipes have different filling levels of the working medium - according to the heat gradient of the exhaust gas recirculation cooler - exhibit.
The arranged in the exhaust gas recirculation first end of each heat pipe is from recirculated exhaust gas flows around. The second end connected to a heat sink becomes flows around the gaseous or liquid cooling medium. The heat sink can through the cooling circuit of the engine or the heating circuit for the vehicle interior be educated.

A particularly good cooling of the recirculated exhaust gas results when the heat merohr heat exchanger has several heat pipes, which in groups of at least two, preferably three rows are arranged. The heat pipes are radial to Exhaust gas recirculation line arranged, which makes the exhaust gas cooler very compact can be.

The internal combustion engine 1 shown schematically in FIG. 1 has an intake system 2 and an exhaust system 3 . 2 a denotes an inlet header of the inlet system 2 and 3a denotes an outlet header of the outlet system 3 . For the return of exhaust gas branches off from the exhaust system 3, an exhaust gas recirculation device 4 and opens into the intake system 2 , a nozzle-diffuser unit 5 being able to be arranged in the region of the mouth. The nozzle-diffuser unit 5 can, if appropriate, be designed to be bypassable via a bypass line 6 , in which a control valve 7 is provided.
To control the amount of recirculated exhaust gas, an exhaust gas recirculation control valve 8 is arranged in the exhaust gas recirculation line 4 . In the exhaust gas return line 4 , an exhaust gas recirculation cooler 9 is also provided, with which the temperature of the recirculated exhaust gas and thus the combustion chamber temperature can be further reduced in order to reduce the NO x emissions. The exhaust gas recirculation cooler 9 is designed as a heat pipe heat exchanger 10 and works on the principle of known heat pipe systems. The heat pipe heat exchanger 10 has a number of closed heat pipes 11 , the interior of which is evacuated and contains a vaporizable working medium 12 , for example alcohol, water, etc. The first end 13 of each heat pipe 11 is located in the exhaust gas recirculation line 4 and is flowed around by the recirculated exhaust gas indicated by the arrow 14 , which forms the heat source H 1 in the present case. The second end 15 of each heat pipe 11 is located in the area of a heat sink H 2 , which is formed by a cooling medium, for example water or air. In particular in the case of liquid cooling medium, the second end 15 can be located in a closed cooling channel 16 of a cooling circuit 17, which can be, for example, an engine cooling circuit or a heating circuit for the passenger compartment. Reference number 18 denotes a heat exchanger for dissipating the heat of the cooling circuit 17 , for example the cooler or a heating radiator.
Fig. 4 shows an analogous embodiment to Fig. 3, wherein the second end 15 of the heat pipe 11 is cooled by air. The second end 15 is surrounded by cooling fins 19 .
The exhaust gas 14 flowing in the exhaust gas recirculation line 4 heats the first end 13 of the heat pipe 11 and thus the working medium 12 contained therein, as a result of which the working medium 12 evaporates and extracts heat from the exhaust gas 14 . The second end 15 is cooled by the heat sink H 2 formed by the cooling medium, for example air or water, as a result of which the vaporous working medium 12 condenses in the region of the second end 15 and releases heat to the cooling medium 20 . The condensed working medium 12 slides along the inner wall due to the action of gravity down to the first end 13 of the heat pipe 11 and thus to the heat sink H 1 . This "free" circulation of the working medium can be converted into a kind of "forced circulation" by installing a capillary body 22 ( FIG. 4) along the entire length of the inner wall of the heat pipe. The capillary body 22 , which preferably consists of several layers of wire mesh or a porous metal sponge, improves both the transport of the condensed working medium 12 to the heat source H 1 and the evaporation conditions.
The heat pipes 11 are advantageously arranged in groups of one, two or three rows 21 in the exhaust gas recirculation line 4 .
FIG. 2 shows an arrangement with two rows 21 of heat pipes 11 , FIG. 3 shows an arrangement with a row 21 of heat pipes 11 in cross section. At the flow angle α of the cooling medium 20 with respect to the longitudinal axis 4 a of the exhaust gas recirculation line 4 is freely selectable over a wide range.
Figs. 5 to 7 show an embodiment of a heat pipe Wärmetau exchanger 10 with three rows 21 of heat pipes 11, two adjacent Rei hen offset from each other, as shown in Fig. 6 can be seen. In this water variant, the heat pipes 11 can be cooled by a cooling medium, for example air or water.
The heat pipe heat exchanger 10 in the exhaust gas recirculation line 4 allows simple and effective cooling of the recirculated exhaust gas, with great con structive freedom in the design and arrangement of the heat pipes 11 in the choice of the cooling medium and its flow direction.
