Abstract

The truck travels forwards and backwards on conventional wheelsets (10,11) of its chassis (1), raising and lowering its load-bearing arm (4) by motor (5) and chain (6). Rollers (9) at the head of its mast (2) run along opposite sides of a fixed rail (8), while floor-level rollers (12) follow parallel tracks guiding the truck into an aisle between storage racks. At the exit from any aisle the rollers (9) are disengaged from the rail (8), and auxiliary supporting wheels (14) mounted on either side of the chassis (1) are lowered and deployed (16) for sideways movement of the truck towards another aisle.
